Worried about getting covid while being pregnant

Has anyone had covid while being pregnant has this affected the baby?

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 22/12/2021 21:40

Are you vaccinated?

shas19 · 22/12/2021 21:50

Not vaccinated and had it at 20 weeks. Baby was fine I'm currently 37 weeks

supersonicginandtonic · 22/12/2021 21:52

If you aren't vaccinated, please please please get it. So many pregnant women are ending up in ICU because they aren't vaccinated. My friend had a late miscarriage at 28 weeks due to covid abs a woman form my baby group ended up in ICU very poorly.

dg93 · 22/12/2021 21:53

I thought I had covid a few weeks back, but turned out to be faulty at home tests thankfully!! all at home tests showed positive but all drive through tests were negative 🥲

Anyway, whilst I was going through the thought of having covid I rang and spoke to the midwifes, and did a tonne of research online.

Although not everyone is this lucky, as your pregnant your body will go into over drive and get rid of the virus as quickly as it can, this usually means you won't show symptoms of the virus (any virus) but your body will tell you something is up, like needing the loo more often to clear it from your body, headaches and feeling extremely tired.

So if you do get it, from my research most pregnant ladies bodies go into overdrive and sort themselves out without any issue.

My partner did get a chest infection 3 weeks ago and I did notice my body was doing all sorts of things, but I never showed any of the symptoms but it was clear my body fighting something!

Not sure if you have the vaccine or not, but if you do your be even more protected.

I am petrified of going into lockdown because of covid and having to give birth without my partner ?!

Alisha32 · 22/12/2021 21:56

No I am not vaccinated

There is a big risk to both you and the baby up to and including death. A quick google will bring up stories of mothers dying or in comas and preterm or stillbirth babies when mothers were unvaccinated and got covid. Those are the risks you are taking.

supersonicginandtonic · 22/12/2021 22:12

Utterly selfish and you are putting your baby at massive risk. I'm not bothered about you, you have a choice, your baby doesn't.
I had my baby in April abs had to work in hospitals unvaccinated. I'd have given anything to have the vaccine and protect my baby more.

Mex100 · 22/12/2021 22:12

I had covid at 28 weeks pregnant and was unvaccinated. I wasn't overly poorly just felt like a heavy cold. My antibody test did show I had antibodies though, even though I'm unvaccinated and hadn't tested positive previously.

shas19 · 22/12/2021 22:15

I also had it quite bad, all the symptoms except temperature but felt ill for about 5 days then just tired. Treated it the same as a cold/flu but obviously restricted on what medication I could take. I ended up in hospital for something else whilst having it and they didn't seem concerned I was actually kept on a ward with other people who didn't have it funnily enough. Vulnerable elderly people to be specific. Your choice to be vaccinated or not!

Blxo94 · 22/12/2021 23:44

I had covid at 14 weeks, with only 1 dose of the vaccine. I'm currently 30 weeks pregnant and no effect on baby! I am now double jabbed and still worried about covid!

Alychloe · 22/12/2021 23:53

My sister who is unvaccinated had COVID at 37 weeks - her and baby were and are both fine :)

NW2021 · 22/12/2021 23:57

Had covid at 36 weeks, unvaccinated at the time. Was fine just suffered with headache. Baby born fine no issues.

Had Covid at 10 weeks. Double jabbed at the time and whilst I felt rough, I was fine. Just had booster yesterday and I'm now 31 weeks. My SIL is a consultant paediatrician who has been looking after seriously sick and prem babies whose unvaccinated mothers have had to deliver early because of Covid. Please get jabbed.

SouthwestSis · 23/12/2021 01:13

You're right to be worried about catching covid if you are pregnant and unvaccinated as you're in a more vulnerable group and you and your baby are at increased risk of needing hospitalisation.
The stories you won't hear here are the pregnant ladies who've died having caught covid in pregnancy. Please talk to your midwife if you are unsure.
Covid vaccines are safe at any gestation in pregnancy.

cfarrugia · 23/12/2021 03:34

worry everyday about covid! tested positive early on at around 12 weeks - head cold type symptoms. had my first jab at around 32 weeks, baby is well. i would 100 percent get the jab, waiting on my second.

RisingStarsToday · 23/12/2021 05:43

So irresponsible of posters here saying oh smiley face I had covid unvaccinated and I’m fine. You were so so lucky. I can’t get over the arrogance. As for the anti-vax lies from @Bluepop09 - there is an innocent baby at risk here.

These women won’t be posting on mumsnet @Alisha32 this is the chance you are taking.

emergency.cdc.gov/han/2021/han00453.asp

CDC strongly recommends COVID-19 vaccination either before or during pregnancy because the benefits of vaccination outweigh known or potential risks. As of September 27, 2021, more than 125,000 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases have been reported in pregnant people, including more than 22,000 hospitalized cases and 161 deaths. The highest number of COVID-19-related deaths in pregnant people (n=22) in a single month of the pandemic was reported in August 2021. Data from the COVID-19-Associated Hospitalization Surveillance Network (COVID-NET) in 2021 indicate that approximately 97% of pregnant people hospitalized (either for illness or for labor and delivery) with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection were unvaccinated. In addition to the risks of severe illness and death for pregnant and recently pregnant people, there is an increased risk for adverse pregnancy and neonatal outcomes, including preterm birth and admission of their neonate(s) to an intensive care unit (ICU). Other adverse pregnancy outcomes, such as stillbirth, have been reported.

I would seriously consider vaccination if you aren’t already. These stats speak for themselves:

Covid
Makingnumber2 · 23/12/2021 07:10

Just look at the huge difference between women admitted to icu with no vaccine versus those who had only even had one jab

Makingnumber2 · 23/12/2021 07:12

And FWIW I waited until 13 weeks for my first jab as did feel a bit worried about it all.
I’ve had my booster at 38+1 and am now 39wks. All looked good at my midwife appmt and baby very active etc.

MummyMe87 · 23/12/2021 07:15

Yes you should be worried. Pregnant women are very high risk for severe complications of covid. I am a midwife and have seen some incredibly poorly women. We had 6 pregnant women admitted for oxygen in a shift last week, many women delivered prematurely in order to improve maternal wellbeing (usually require ICU/ventilated).

supersonicginandtonic · 23/12/2021 09:54

@Bluepop09 what a ridiculously stupid and irresponsible post. You were lucky and im sorry but posts like yours put others at risk. What people need are the facts. Yours aren't facts.

Alychloe · 23/12/2021 11:38

@RisingStarsToday I’m not arrogant, and I can promise you as a pharmacist that specialises in vaccines and pharmaceutical industry I have a lot more knowledge than you and what you read. So please don’t be rude. How about COVID respect.

luinagreine · 23/12/2021 11:43

If that were true you would be urging the OP to get vaccinated. What is COVID respect? Respect peoples right to persuade unvaccinated vulnerable people that it OK when it clearly isn't? RisingStars is right it is highly irresponsible.

Alychloe · 23/12/2021 12:01

@luinagreine Even the manufacturer of the original mRNA vaccinations has opposing views so yes very true. It’s respecting everyone’s beliefs over COVID. I will not post any conflicting views of my own to OP as she can make her own decision. I just don’t think because people responded with their own experience being unvaccinated it warrants them being called arrogant. The post wasn’t even about the vaccine it was about COVID. Poor OP.
