I have reached the get it the fuck out of me stage of pregnancy with DC2… a whoppa by all accounts (no I don’t have GD).

I am due after Xmas and my ELCS is booked at 39+6. I’m walking a tightrope between Christmas, labour and frankly not catching covid.

I want it out. I want it out now. What can I do? What’s the most instant, tried and tested method?

I’m currently bathing in a very clary sagey bath. My sinuses are clear but no labour.

Don’t even talk to me about the raspberry tea that shit does nothing.

Sex (yeah everyone says that) and walking about n bouncing on the birth ball are the actual things that help, not just old wives tales

Sux2Buthen · 19/12/2021 19:49

Yep sex and walking etc. But, if the baby disagrees that it's time it ain't gonna happen Grin
I hope you get as peaceful a time as you can over the next few weeks

Makingnumber2 · 19/12/2021 19:51

I’m very much of the opinion that nothing works unless baby is actually ready to vacate the building. They come when they’re ready if you’re hoping for spontaneous labour. I feel your pain. I’m 38+3- also with dc2, also predicted to be considerably larger than dc1 (no GD either) and I’m just fucking over it tbh. As dc1 was 41+1 I’ve resigned myself to fact this one also likely to be a 41 weeker.

LadyHalesBroach · 19/12/2021 19:55

I am sort of hoping for spontaneous labour because then I (fingers crossed) get an earlier chopchop date. Or I just give birth on the side of the road on the way to the hospital. Which ridiculous as it sounds, appeals more to me than another night not able to lift myself off the sofa. Like an oversized manitee.

I actually just posted on another thread on the same topic. Mine were evicted at 42 and 41 weeks. I walked miles with both of mine (literally 8 miles the day before he was born by eviction). I bounced on balls, I hated that expression ‘baby comes when babies ready’ but in my case it’s true.

You’ll be holding your baby very soon OP. Wishing you well

JurgensCakeBabyJesus · 19/12/2021 20:00

Have you considered the small claims court?

LadyHalesBroach · 19/12/2021 20:04

@JurgensCakeBabyJesus 😆
Small claims probably more backed up than my maternity department right now. Could be waiting even longer.

All 4 of mine have been hideously overdue, 2 needing inductions. With my last, I was incredibly ratty with DH and went up to bed to stomp around and bounce like mad on the birth ball, while reading the good hippy vibes of Ina May Gaskin. Seemed to work as my waters went and she was born a few hours later, all with the positive birth mantras I’d just read fresh in my mind. So I recommend getting super pissed off and going for a good stomp about, and thinking good ‘get the hell out of me’ thoughts.

SouthwestSis · 19/12/2021 20:23

Antenatal expressing and keeping as active as possible. Good luck!

SMabbutt · 19/12/2021 20:29

With my 1st ds I looked like a beached whale at 38 weeks and was impatient waiting to meet my baby. Itried everything to speed things up. I carried heavy shopping up 2 flights of stairs, shifted beds and wardrobes and went to a barn dance. I joined in every dance, much to the alarm of the gentlemen who were confronted by me, as they were required to dosey do and do the basket with me at breakneck speed. It had not the slightest impact on my ds who was more than happy to sit tight until just after my due date. Sorry I can't be more encouraging but I think you'll just have to wait until your body catches up with your wishes.

LadyHalesBroach · 19/12/2021 20:34

@SMabbutt that is both disheartening and hilarious, thank you

Evening primrose oil capsules (to soften the cervix - apply vaginally!) and using an electric breast pump antenatally (was my first so no milk came…I guess any old nipple stimulation might do the trick). I had tried almost everything and I feel those are the only 2 that helped.

Things that didn’t help (in my opinion): pineapple, curry, sex (not fun/worth it), clary sage oil, lavender oil, walking, squatting, bouncing, date smoothies, reflexology (waste of money, and not even relaxing - she kept just squeezing my big toe?!).

Good luck, hope something works!!! Keep us posted if so

Moonshine160 · 19/12/2021 22:34

For me it was a long walk around IKEA.

Pitstop1986 · 20/12/2021 10:05

@Caneparrot the reflexology point for the pituitary gland is located on your big toe, the gland responsible for producing oxycodonr which helps kick start labour, although the drug also is produced when you are relaxed and happy, so she should have given you a full holistic treatment as that'll bring on the relaxation effects. Sorry that you didn't find it enjoyable.

So far, to induce labour, I've tried self reflexology and accupressure (I'm a fully trained therapist), Clary sage and rosemary oil, walking, circling my hips, both standing and on a birth ball, meditations, I've been having raspberry leaf tea since 30 weeks and eating dates since 35/36 weeks, orgasms (self induced, DH has decided on a sex ban until the baby is late, because he wants a peaceful Christmas haha) we eat lots of spicy food anyway, so that's not a particular "induce labour" thing, just that we like curry in our house! I also did the miles circuit, but that seems to move baby up, rather than down. I must have been doing it wrong!

Nothing works, seems like my little one is happy to stay put for the time being Confused

Pitstop1986 · 20/12/2021 10:05

Oxytocin, not oxycodone! Pregnancy brain!

LadyHalesBroach · 20/12/2021 12:47

If I wasn’t such a wimp I’d have done castor oil by now

OP posts:
Pitstop1986 · 20/12/2021 13:05

I'm steering clear of castor oil. It may work miracles for some mums, but I'd rather not have the sickness and diarrhoea and electrolyte imbalance. Plus it can put baby in distress. I'll just watch sad films on my birth ball instead and hope that something happens soon.

Good luck OP! Let me know if you come across any new remedies or if anything starts to happen xxx

Pitstop1986 · 22/12/2021 09:50

Any updates? @LadyHalesBroach

Houseplantmad · 22/12/2021 09:57

I ate a fresh pineapple and then went on a long walk. I was in labour properly by the time we returned and gave birth 3 hours later. Hope it goes well!

LadyHalesBroach · 22/12/2021 13:57

@Pitstop1986 thank you for asking… no, absolutely nothing. I shamefully took some castor oil in a smoothly, just a teaspoon because I was too chicken to take more. I can confirm I lost half my body weight over night but no baby. 1/10 would not recommend.

I’ve tried the bouncy ball, the tea, the sex (again 2/10 if generous), the spicy food, the nipple tweaking, clary sage… nothing is working but the midwife did call to ask if I would mind having my c section on the afternoon of 24th. So whilst I haven’t made the baby come sooner, I think I triggered something in the universe.

Anyway we’re so close to Xmas now, I’m going to try @Houseplantmad ‘s pineapple to see if I can get it moving tonight. Otherwise from tomorrow I’m going to be like the titanic spotting the iceberg - reverse reverse reverse until Boxing Day when I’ll hit it hard again. But never again with the castor oil. That was stupid.

OP posts:
Pitstop1986 · 22/12/2021 20:45

I haven't tried the pineapple thing yet. Would it work just as well drinking pineapple juice or does it have to be a fresh pineapple?

I've been getting stomach tightenings with no pain and lower abdomen and back pain with no tightening, so not a contraction, probably just my body getting tired of carrying around the bump!

Other than that, no sign of baby making an appearance whatsoever!

Robbo1010 · 22/12/2021 23:06

Best thing to do is to book in a date night with dh, go with the 'sods law' rule. They only come when it's inconvenient. You'll be mid meal and bang waters will go.

Catherine1210 · 23/12/2021 04:53

I gave birth last week at at 39+2 and I’m sure it was going to the car wash and using their timer 3 min for £1 hoover to hoover my full car. I’m sure that pressure of getting it all done was what got things moving. Ha ha. My waters broke that evening and I had him the following day!

mrssunshinexxx · 23/12/2021 05:01

@LadyHalesBroach that's a very late elective date given it's your second baby too they are usually no later than 39 weeks in my trust. Did you question that?

LadyHalesBroach · 23/12/2021 08:47

@mrssunshinexxx I did question it, many many many times especially since between 35 and 37 weeks I was in for CTG+STV monitoring (reduced movements). The issue for them is that they refuse to go earlier than 39 weeks and every other day in the 39th week is a holiday: eve, day, boxing, BH and BH. 29th for my elcs is the first they could give me, unless I go into spontaneous labour.

Slightly contradictory but if I was being induced, they’d have done it at 37w. Go figure.
