Lady gardens - to trim/tend or not to trim/tend??!!

Thinking about giving birth and wondering about the tending to the lady garden issue (not that I have seen mine in a while and might need help if I decide to do some work!)

Anyone got any thoughts or advice as to why its a positive/negative thing to do?

Doesn't it fit that image perfectly though? I remmeber a picture in a book from whe I was a child of a monster made entirely out of black squiggles. Reminds me of pubic hair.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 18/12/2007 21:51

Well said, I compeletely agree! If you can't be yourself in pregnancy and let it all hang out, when the hell can you??

expatinscotland · 18/12/2007 21:55

Brazilian all the way, pregnant or not.

expatinscotland · 18/12/2007 21:56

The real me is a yetti.

And I don't like it one bit.

I have been waxing for so long now, I do it all myself at home.

Yep, ALL of it

discoverlife · 18/12/2007 23:08

Why not get DP or DH to do the trim, it will probably be the last normal look down there he will see for about 2 months.

Mincepiedermama · 18/12/2007 23:10

I want to learn to wax at home.

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 18/12/2007 23:13

OMG DISCOVERLIFE, YOU WOULD LET YOUR DH/P NEAR YOUR FANJO WITH A RAZOR

discoverlife · 19/12/2007 00:34

Yep all slippery and kinky.

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 19/12/2007 00:36

I'd be scared beyond belief.

Dalrymps · 19/12/2007 01:00

i gave mine a little trim using the mirror but mainly cause i wanted to feel better about it myself and didn't want to be wondering what the mw thought of it during labour, i also somehow managed to paint my toenails and shave my legs... obviously, i'm sure they don't notice at all really! - well, actually, tell a lie, the team who stitched me up after noticed my pretty pink toes

macaco · 19/12/2007 10:14

I'm 22 weeks and I've been doing mine with the electric hair clippers. Really easy and you can't hurt yourself. Don't think I can bear the pain of waxing. Have warned DH he may have to help me out with the clippers at a later stage. Just makes me feel more normal to have it a bit under control.

lilimama · 19/12/2007 10:28

if you're thinking about your pubes whilst giving birth, there's gotta be something wrong...... sounds like it's gonna be a slow and distracted labour if you ask me. But I appreciate, it's a matter of personal discretion.

lilimama · 19/12/2007 10:30

p.s ......brazilian for giving birth?????!!!!

Uwwhhhgghh....little girl p*y whilst birthing?

There's something not quite right with that image.

uch.

As a midwife, I can assure you all we really don't care what it looks like, as long as the baby comes out of it!

However, its a lot easier to put stitches in if you dont have to keep pulling hairs out of the wound! Also much more hygenic to at least be a bit tidy, as the blood will not stick so much.

lillimama - remember that muslim women are 'hairless' down there as part of their religion - not really porno....

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 19/12/2007 11:25

Mintpurple- I did not know that (about the muslim ladies) You learn something new every day on Mumsnet!

lilimama · 19/12/2007 12:18

Hang on....did i mention porno?

widgetsmummy · 19/12/2007 13:05

you have all made me laugh if nothing else!!!

maybe I'll get DH to have a go at the weekend - should make Sat morning more interesting! ;)

Merryberry that link for dyeing kits made me remember my last pregnancy... (never been a regular gardener by the way only for special occasions and that doesn't include being pg)

I have reddish head hear naturally but my pubes are ginger. Bright. Ginger. Like. A. Carrot.

A couple of days after the birth of my ds my normal community midwife checked my stitches and the only comment she could come up with was not "are they giving you any trouble?" or "yes everything looks fine" but "Do you dye your hair because your collar and cuffs don't match!"

Luckily we had a really good relationship and this was the cause for a bit of a giggle rather than an embarrassed "erm..." from me

expatinscotland · 19/12/2007 20:13

I just watched the waxers I had over the years.

The secret is a good wax. I use Bliss brand and my sister sends it over in blocks with my folks when they visit or when she comes across.

Years ago, I bought one of those paraffin wax spa things for your hands. Well it's perfect for body waxing! Gets it to the perfect temp.

I use muslins and actually, a Pakistani friend helped me perfect my technique.

I think over the years I've killed off a lot of follicles so it doesn't hurt so much.

I do it quickly and small areas per rip.

Naetha · 19/12/2007 21:03

I usually epilate the top bit, and just trim the "undercarriage" (I am extremely hairy if I don't - remeniscent of that scene from Scary Movie) but found epilating even more painful than normal since getting pregnant, so just given myself a Grade I trim all over with DH's electric clippers

More for hygiene / personal preference than anything else.

Not that I've seen my bits in anything other than a mirror for nearly 2 months though! (nearly 39 weeks!)

macdoodle · 19/12/2007 23:22

I usually have a hollywood every few months ...and had one a few weeks ago (am now 39 weeks) must say it hurt a lot more in pregnancy but all nice and tidy now

slim22 · 20/12/2007 00:29

trim pregnant or not. With electric shaver.

Cold wax strips are fine to tidy the sides at home. professional brazilian wax before holiday and delivery.

brazilian. in a salon. have had it done for the last few years- since marathon running and the need to feel clean. Am 41 + 3 and last had it done 2 weeks ago.
I am not a grooming freak- i haven't had my hair cut since getting PG- but this is the one thing i make an exception for.

whomovedmychocolate · 20/12/2007 07:06

I will be strimming before my due date but partly that's because last time I ended up with a CS and the most itchy shave from a midwife that had me smarting for weeks!
