Has anyone else bought far too many baby clothes just because they were cute or am I alone?

No such thing. They'll puke and poo all over them and you won't want to be washing all the time

Flutterby8 · 08/12/2021 17:02

We thought we had far too many clothes up until last week when baby turned 1 week old.
I never considered how many changes of clothes we need each day!
We also under estimated how many clothes we would need in newborn and tiny baby size and have had yo buy more!
Make sure you have plenty and a few extras to keep in the changing bag etc for if youre out and about.

MiracleBaby2022 · 08/12/2021 17:27

Oh phew - glad to hear it !! I may do a little count up just to see exactly how many I've got but I think it's over 20 bodysuits already in the newborn size, not to mention other sizes... 😬

You'll easily get through 4-5 a day if they have reflux
CloudyStorms · 08/12/2021 17:30

Do you have a tumble dryer or are you planning to air dry?

BigFatLiar · 08/12/2021 17:33

We had masses, twins, no end of clothes for them and they kept needing more as they grew. We were doing a wash each day.

FTEngineerM · 08/12/2021 17:33

So what do you do, leave shitty spewy clothes festering in washing baskets around the house?

Anyway, you definitely won’t need that many but everyone does the same thing 😂 just sold 34 sleepsuits 0-3m which were all barely worn because by the time I got around all of them he’d outgrown them.

MiracleBaby2022 · 08/12/2021 17:34

No tumble dryer, just an indoor clothes airer. Luckily it's very warm and dry where I live and clothes dry very fast.

20 bodysuits is fine. My newborn sons record was dirtying 7 outfits in one day.

MiracleBaby2022 · 08/12/2021 17:53

@NotAshamedToFancyTheGrinch glad to hear it! I couldn't resist - I had 14 I think and then Black Friday and cyber Monday happened ! 😆

Oh this is a topic of my interest.... Everyone told me not to get too many clothes as babies grow sooooo quickly. Especially in NB size....
Now I'm wondering if I got too few. I'm due early February. Do I need more onesies???
So far I got (yep, I have a list):

Newborn
Footed long sleeve onesie - 2x

0-3
Sleeping gown - 2x
Long sleeve top - 1x
Short sleeve onesie - 3x
Footed pants - 1x
Unfooted pants - 1x
Footed long sleeve onesie - 5x
Cotton socks - 7x
Sweater - 1x
Sweater pants - 1x
Sweater long sleeve footless romper - 1x
Cotton mittens - 2x
Warm winter hat - 1x

0-6
Sleep sack - 2x

Caspianberg · 08/12/2021 20:49

Mine never fitted in newborn clothes at 8lb8 born. Straight into 1m or 0-3 month.

Tbh I really didn’t need many. Newborn he didn’t fit, and we had about 8-10 sleepsuits and vests in 1 month then 0-3 which seemed plenty to wear, have several changes, wash and reuse. We were in 3-6 months by 6 weeks so if you buy too many you never wear each one much.

TwiggletLover · 08/12/2021 20:51

I wouldn't get anymore newborn sized. I found the up to 1 month were a better fit for both mine. Also people will buy you stuff or hand stuff on. The vast majority of mine was second hand from friends and family

MiracleBaby2022 · 08/12/2021 22:21

@VixFromThe6ix the general advice I got was around 14 bodysuits (assuming that's what you mean by onesies?), but I've got a bit more than that - about 20 in the newborn size I think but I haven't actually counted them up yet. I have a feeling it's more. 😆 And a ton of sleepsuits - I actually don't have enough of these yet myself, just 5 or 7 in each size I think (partly because I got distracted by Black Friday and ordered a ton more bodysuits that I probably won't need!) and the general consensus on MN was a lot more.

I’d recommend having more than 7 sleepsuits/onesies. I think 15-20 is a good number. I’d also get a few more short-sleeved bodysuits/onesies for layering underneath the sleepsuits. Do you have a cosy pram suit?
Bells3032 · 09/12/2021 09:37

yes. esp the newborn stuff. went a bit mad but most of it was cheap stuff (like a pack of 7 body suits for £5 from George etc). so if i don't use it i will keep it for baby 2. simples

VixFromThe6ix · 09/12/2021 15:17

Thanks ladies.... So it sounds like I will need more onesies..both short and long sleeve. I'm kind of glad gap and old navy always have good sales so I should be able to stock up a bit more.
Looks like I've held myself back for nothing 😂😂

MiracleBaby2022 · 09/12/2021 19:54

Ok so I've finally had a count up and it includes all the impulsive purchases I made over the Black Friday weekend - please don't judge 😬

Sizes are an estimate and explained in ( )

MiracleBaby2022 · 09/12/2021 19:56

Oh forgot the 0-3m!

➡️ 0-3 months (HM 2-4, JL 0-3m)

18 x L/S bodysuits

5 x sleepsuits

OP posts:
MiracleBaby2022 · 09/12/2021 20:41

5 of the L/S bodysuits in 0-3m could be sent back and replaced with S/S - might do that actually...

Sleepyquest · 09/12/2021 20:43

Yes and still so bad for this 3 years on!

Caspianberg · 09/12/2021 20:49

@MiracleBaby2022
Have you take the labels off yet?
The only reason I say is unless you think you baby will be tiny, I’m not sure you will get much use out of the smallest sizes and might be better to swap for 1+ month or 0-3month

For example, h and m Early baby is for 44cm long and

Caspianberg · 09/12/2021 20:51

H and m/ John Lewis/ m and s all generally have a baby guideline for sizes on website if that’s helpful

Yogaandcocoa · 09/12/2021 20:53

My DS is nearly six months and I'd say we have too many clothes, many of them gifts. He as lots of 0-3 he didn't wear or only wore once. Same with 3-6.

Don't forget you will most likely have favourites and wear those more abs then others are worn less.
