I know about ginger ale (or is ginger beer better?) and crackers but what else can help.
Is there some sort of tea? Writing list now, being brief before I heave all over PC, thankyou x

Nibbling crystallised ginger has been very very good for me. almost miraculous on occasion

also sniffing spearmint oil (from health shop or internet)

eating small frequent meals

I also found peppermint tea soothing for the churning stomach crampy bit

BoysAreLikeReindeer · 15/12/2007 17:57

Ritz crackers, always had a box about my person (long time ago now)

LadyOfWassail · 15/12/2007 17:57

I went to the doctors about mine because i was so so ill.

I was advised to have ginger biscuits & to open a can of coke, leave on the side to go flat & then drink it.

LadyOfWassail · 15/12/2007 17:59

sorry DS bashing pc

congratulations!
I found it helpful to have jacob's crackers on the bedside table first thing in the morning and tea without milk?
ginger again, really worked for me
then there's cook two meals.. throw up one.. eat the second in the five minutes you are no longer feeling ill as you've thrown up..
aah happy memories

LadyOfWassail · 15/12/2007 18:17

Thanks for all of those, sent DH out with a list to Sainsburys. Not heard of the Crystalised ginger though, he said he will have a look. Can finally type now DS is watching In The Night Garden! Phew.

ginger from health food shop or just baking section of supermarket

I believe it is much more effective than ginger biscuits etc, as you are getting a BIG hit of ginger

it hasn't always completely worked but a few times it has been revelatory how much better I felt after eating some

I hope it works for you too

kelbel · 15/12/2007 18:36

i had hyperemesis nd must admit none of the ginger tips worked, but i know they have for some. Nothing got rid of my sickness but a few things helped manage it. I had it for 7 weeks all day everyday so eventually tried everything! In the end I had a toaster in my bedroom and DH used to bring bread and butter up before he went to work. I found having cold toast before I got out of bed soaked up a bit of the bile before it came up (sorry if TMI). also tuk crackers were a godsend. you have my sympathy!x

I got fed up with morning sickness and went to see a homeopath.
She recommended symphoricarpus racemosa. See here
It made a huge difference and really helped me.

LadyOfWassail · 15/12/2007 19:49

OK, will look out for that - what do you do with it though? Thanks so much

a lump of fresh ginger in hot water with a slice of lemon. Let it steep then sip it. Dry crackers. Ginger biscuits no good at all...need real ginger.

ATortIsForLifeNotJustChristmas · 15/12/2007 20:06

The ones i had were tablets.
I can't remember eactly how it worked but was something like 3 a day at first then down to 2 then 1 and finally none. It really did work well for me.

bunnyhohohunny · 15/12/2007 20:21

try those travel sickness wrist bands. they have a little knobbly bit on the inside which works on pressure points in the wrist. you can get them from any chemist.
I had awful morning sickness for about 5 months + and ended up on tablets from the doctors, but the only things that worked for me were the wrist bands.

mumbear · 15/12/2007 20:30

I never really found anything that worked for me (sorry sorry!) Ginger no, biscuits no, lemonade no, The travel sickness bands gave me bruised wrists and I still felt ill!! Weetabix or yorkshire pudding took the edge off it (something bland and carbohydraty!) The best thing that I found was sleeping when I felt sick which I guess is not always practical. Luckally my sickness was in the evening. Itll pass and you will just think one day 'hey i dont feel sick anymore!!!' Good luck

whomovedmychocolate · 15/12/2007 22:18

Arrowroot biscuits
Sniffing lemon oil
Cold water
Eating before getting out of bed
Ginger cake
Dry crackers
Sea sickness wrist bands.

Yep tried all those, all seem to help a bit.

But the best thing was getting past the first trimester.

I have 4-6am sickness at the mo, it's horrid.

LadyOfWassail · 16/12/2007 14:42

ok, will write all those down! Mmmmmm I could eat massive yorkshire pudding now with some gravy

amidaiwish · 16/12/2007 15:01

these are good preggie pops

but the best thing i found was to never get hungry or let your blood sugar drop at all. eat every 2 hours at least, even if just plain biscuits. eat before you even try to get up in the morning, eat something during the night if you can face it.

carbo-load! weetabix, sprite all were good for me.

and before you panic i only put on 1.5 stone each pg, this does work!!

utter sympathy and hugs. i was so ill with both pgs. it's also worth remembering it is a sign of a strong healthy baby

nosnikrap · 16/12/2007 19:29

I got sick til 18 weeks this time round. Also found sleeping it off very good! Luckily worst sickness in the evening after work, nice boss let me sit down and shut eyes at work at worst.

I found that philidelphia sandwiches with ready salted crisps helped! weird! it was the coolness on my burning throat I think! also agree with amidaiwish, don't get hungry!!

yellowbean · 16/12/2007 20:33

flat coke really helped me... and freqent eating, although some days i couldnt do that! hope you feel better soon.... xx

stockingfiller · 16/12/2007 20:38

i ate pear drops they took the yuk taste away and the nasty metallic taste!
or eat something that isnt all that bad on the return ! i lived off cornflakes after the inital bout of sickness

disneystar · 16/12/2007 20:49

hohoho you said you had the horrible crampy stomach thats exactly what i have peppermint tea takes away the sickness but does anyone else have the most awful bloating feeling i seem to bloat out towards the evening i have never had sickness like this before but the cramps are worse is this normal?

nosnikrap · 16/12/2007 20:52

Bloating was a huge prob for me at 6 to 10 weeks, got really constipated and couldn't stop burping. I looked at least 16 weeks at night!! ha ha, it soon settled down, just leaving sickiness, I kept retching til about 18weeks

BiancaP · 17/12/2007 15:34

Big sympathies from me - had ms for 10 weeks and it was hell. Nothing helped and I lost a stone in weight! I think someone said sleep - and I agree - that was the only think that worked for me!
