I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/topics/nausea-vomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Starbeach I am sorry that you went through that. GP's often aren't as helpful as they ought to be about meds and support. I know they are often overworked, but still, it's a serious illness.

You're pregnant, not ill don't you know

@Starbeach really sorry to hear that. It must have been awful to feel your options were removed through illness! They should still have treated you, as regardless of the outcome you were suffering in the immediate term!

You are so right. I have often said that if this was an illness suffered by men, then it would be taken more seriously.

@LucindaE @rainbowzebra05 thanks apparently I found out after it was because she didn’t believe in abortion full stop and tbh I just couldn’t think straight at the time and looking back I wish I’d asked for a second opinion

Waddlegoose · 27/02/2022 08:25

@Starbeach I’m so sorry, I have been looking and theirs loads of stats around HG women having abortions due to no or lack of support of pregnancy sickness. You aren’t alone.

Sending you the biggest hug for a truly awful situation. Sorry you were so let down by your GP. I don’t blame you or judge you at all. If my GP hadnt as been so supportive I could quite easily be writing the same post. 💐

Starbeach · 27/02/2022 11:14

@Waddlegoose this time my GP couldn’t have been more supportive and more accommodating. I know some GP’s have been bashed for not seeing patients through covid but honestly he could not been doing more for me he even called me one evening about 8 as he was in call just to check how I was and he’s called me on his days off as he was so worried about me to see if the medication was working.

If anyone feels like abortion is the only answer please try getting a second opinion and counselling xx

Sicksmellymess · 27/02/2022 11:33

While taking ondansetron, cyclizine, prochlorperazine and metoclopramide I have started being sick again after 3 days of being fine.

BFPDec21 · 27/02/2022 12:51

@Sicksmellymess

While taking ondansetron, cyclizine, prochlorperazine and metoclopramide I have started being sick again after 3 days of being fine.
Oh no. That can happen while trying to work out what's right for you.

However, how are you staggering them? Also, are you making sure you're resting enough? 3 days of being fine can lull you into a false sense of security but you still need to ensure you're resting properly.

Sicksmellymess · 27/02/2022 13:54

I take 4 altogether in the morning then two in between the 8 hour gap of ondansetron then ondansetron and again. So still staggering as much as possible. What is the earliest some of us have seen improvement/ got better I’m 10 weeks now and been like this since 5 weeks

ChloeHel · 27/02/2022 16:17

@Sicksmellymess I feel the same, my xonvea worked for a few days but I’m back to square one :(

Going to up my dose tonight. I’ve lost nearly a stone now! Feeling so depressed with it all. Miss my husband and my daughter but I just have no energy to leave bed and as soon as I do the nausea kicks straight in and I’m sick!

Melleebacca · 27/02/2022 16:46

@ChloeHel Try to remember it’s just a season, it doesn’t last forever. I was in bed for 3m this time around, and for the last 6wks my husband has been quite rundown that he’s forgotten completely that I actually feel worse than he does. It’s amazing how fast they forget.

@Sicksmellymess the meds might still be working, you’re just at peak sickness levels right now. I wouldn’t expect to feel much improvement until closer to 14/16 wks. Although I did start improving at 12wks this time.

I’m now 26wks, I’ve just dropped cyclizine completely and surviving on one dose of ondansetron a day. I was shocked at how much the cyclizine was helping as I’ve had much higher nausea levels since dropping it. Just a reminder to slow down.

Waves to everyone!

I hope @abbs1 is having a pink castle party right now!

LucindaE · 27/02/2022 18:08

Melleebacca Excellent advice. I so agree, I do hope abbs1 is celebrating arrival in the fabled Pink Castle atthe end of the Hyperemesis Horror Run.
Sicksmellymess As Mellleebacca says, ten weeks is often when things are at their worst, with a hormonal surge. Things may improve. If not, they may consider offering steroids.
Starbeach That is bad about the first GP; good about the second.
ChloeHel Hopefully, this is a glitch.
BFPDec2021I Good advice. I hope things are improving with you.
Waves to Waddlegoose and everyone...

Hey Everyone,
My little daughter was born 24th of February at 21:20 weighing 6lbs 7oz! I am completely in love! It was a difficult labour and birth but just so happy shes here safely and we're home.
Feels so good to leave hyperemesis behind and knowing our little family is complete is just the best.
Thank you for all your kind words 💖

To all of you suffering so badly still, stay strong, you can do this! I am so glad I stuck it out and wouldn't change it for the world. I didnt let HG beat me and I hope you all find the support to do the same. 🤗❤

Melleebacca · 28/02/2022 02:18

@abbs1 Congratulations! I’m so happy for you (apart from the labour part). Enjoy being free from the HG prison.

I seem to be having a relapse, or a hormonal surge or something. Feeling nauseous most of the day now with that annoying lump feeling in my throat. Not sure if it’s constipation related, or stress related. Just feeling blah.

PopGoesBang · 28/02/2022 07:39

Congrats @abbs1 enjoy the newborn bubble!

Sicksmellymess · 28/02/2022 09:26

Congrats!! ♥️

7Worfs · 28/02/2022 09:41

Big congrats abbs1 I am very happy for you!

Sorry to hear about others’ relapses Sad

I am set to drop to 2 doses of Stemetil daily (down from 3) today at the beginning of week 14 and I’m so scared. But the troubles with sleep and lack of nausea and vomiting for the past week+ are pushing me to that decision.

Any words of wisdom or reassurance from knowledgable posters?

ohCARP · 28/02/2022 10:50

Hi everyone. I was here a couple of years ago with my first and I’m now 7 weeks pregnant with my second. I feel horrendous. I’m typing over a bucket just in case I’m sick again. I’ve also got positional vertigo so even though all I want to do is lie down, I can’t because when I do I’m violently sick.

After last time I said I’d put myself first but I’m already feeling like a useless waste of space. I hate having to rely on everyone to do things and feel like a rubbish mum because I can’t look after my daughter. Im off sick already and feel like such a flake but all I want to do is curl up and fall asleep until I start maternity leave.

I’m seeing the midwife tomorrow and I’m going to ask her to refer me to perinatal mental health but I just feel so useless. I can’t remember when I started medication last time but I have a feeling this time is going to be even worse so I should probably get in early. Last time I survived on coke from McDonald’s but the thought of drinking it makes me feel sick this time 😞

Anyway that’s my whinge. I hope everyone else is doing ok

7Worfs · 28/02/2022 12:10

Hi OhCARP sounds like you need your GP to prescribe something today - have you given them a call yet?
Sending you strength to endure.
Don’t feel guilty - be glad you have someone to rely on… the world will keep going while you rest and recover.

FateHasRedesignedMost · 28/02/2022 14:31

@abbs1

Congratulations 🎉💖💐

FateHasRedesignedMost · 28/02/2022 14:38

Hi, how’s everyone managing?

Sorry I’ve been off radar a few days, it was a busy half term week last week and my HG flared up again as a result. Still vomiting at least once a day despite all the meds.

Had my 28 week appointment yesterday, midwife was confident the obstetrician will book me in for a c-section based on low lying placenta and traumatic previous birth. I have an obstetrics app next week so hope to get all the paperwork sorted!

Apparently they prefer to do it at 39 weeks but I had my son at 37 weeks naturally, so they may book it in earlier, I hope so. Apparently if I go into labour naturally and have a planned c section booked they’ll do it straight away.

Roll on the pink castle!

ChloeHel · 28/02/2022 15:30

Oh congratulations @abbs1 Flowers

I’m only 9 weeks and literally counting down the weeks already…dear God it’s going to be a long 31 weeks!

@FateHasRedesignedMost Oh no sorry to hear you flared up!! I’m waiting for mine flare down!! 3 more weeks of xonvea and then I’m getting some ondansetron!! Not long left for you now :) Id be so excited to say good riddance to HG haha.

LucindaE · 28/02/2022 19:41

abbs1 Happy News. Welcome to the Pink Castle of legend. Smile Flowers Star Brew Congratulations on your daughter and your complete family. Thank you for your lovely message of encouragement to current sufferers. I am so happy for you. We will all miss you. Do call back in sometimes.
ohCARP Welcome back. Congratulations on your pregnancy. I so agree, do ask for meds tomorrow. I hadn't heard before about that posture vertigo. It sounds horrendous. Are you able to rest propped up on pillows? Don't feel guilty about your daughter. A sibling is a priceless gift and from what I've seen on here, she'll soon forget the period of comparative neglect. Sorry coke isn't helping this time.
I quote the list of drinks and some foods that have helped others, as you might find something that suits on i, and it expands all the time. I am sure you remember about anti acids, kesostix etc.
'Besides drinking through a straw, here are some drinks that have helped others: ...ice lollies, the juice of tinned fruit, Lucozade, apple juice, Ribina, Dr Pepper, soda water, Elderflower water, tonic water, ice cubes, Iron Bru, lemonade, lemon squash, orange squash, orange juice (if not too acid), fizzy orange, 7Up, isotonic drinks, sips of chocolate milkshake (maybe soya), fizzy water, apple juice, Robinson's fruit drinks, Rubicon sparkling mango drink , raspberry Lucozade sport and frozen ice cubes of flat Lucozade sport. Also, pink lemonade , cloudy lemonade and Sprite. Foods of a sort include tinned fruit, cuppa soup, nibbles of crisps and chips, cheap ice cream, Scotch pancakes, bagels and biscuits, potato smileys, minature salty Yorkshire Puddings , dry cereals and slices of melon and mango. Protein drinks have also been mentioned.'
FateHasRedesignedMost Sorry to hear of your relapse. Cheering you on on your intrepid plod to the Pink Castle, and Melleebacca. Sorry to hear of your relapse too.

7Worfs Can you reduce the medication by half a dose rather than a full dose to begin with, or was this a medic's advice?
Waves to ChloeHel, Sicksmellymess and everyone.
