To find out the sex of baby or not?

Hi all. 12 weeks pregnant with baby number 2. I didn't find out the sex of my first baby. I'm torn whether to find out the this time around. I want to know but then I also want the surprise. Has anyone regretted finding out? Thanks 😊

We found out DD was a girl quite early so we're waiting until the birth this time. I wanted to experience both ways as it'll be our last baby.

It was a surprise at 20 weeks!

I am happy to have found out the sex, we were really struggling to pick names for both sexes... also its made it easier to get bits and pieces and feel more attached to the baby.

I would never not want to find out 😬 I’ve had 4 kids and have known each time, I didn’t want a “surprised” !

ImStayingInside · 17/11/2021 20:00

I found out with DD (10) and then a few weeks before she was born, my friend had a DD that she had been told in more than one scan was a DS and had to return lots of blue items she had purchased. I spent the last few weeks of my pregnancy flapping that they had it wrong and all the pink stuff I had bought would go to waste. They did get it right, but it made me want to wait with this baby (due Jan) so I can’t be panicking at any point that they made a mistake.

I didn’t find out with my first but have with my second as our son wanted a girl! Seems we are having another boy but I don’t found out so he could process it (he’s 2).
Much preferred not knowing! X

Pregnant with my first and always said I’d keep it a surprise. Was tempted to change my mind but didn’t and so glad I’ve stuck to it. I’m so excited for the surprise! I’m not sure what I’d do with the second though as we’d love one of each and may want to find out early to avoid any potential disappointment, but may feel differently later.

Ameteurmum · 19/11/2021 17:57

I’ve found out all three times because I wanted to. It’s between two options so it’s not really that much of a surprise if you want until the birth day! I wanted to buy stuff in advance and not loads of yellow or white that you won’t even dress them in once they are born

@aSofaNearYou

I had no interest in "the surprise" (it was a surprise to me at 20 weeks, I don't really see why it would be more special at 40) and no I didn't regret finding out.
This is kind of how I feel. The day the baby is born is special enough, it’s quite nice to spread out the exciting moments.

I like being able to talk about “him” (rather than it) and I think knowing the sex helps me feel more connected to the baby growing inside me.

Well I had my first scan. 13 weeks 4 days. Sent it off to a nub expert. Looks like it could be a boy. Xx

Hmmm OP I wouldn't be buying anything blue yet! I think that nub is really unclear I guess reflected by their 80% accuracy! Was that your best pic? I had a scan yesterday at 11 weeks and nub theory saying girl but it's only about 70% accurate at this point! Xxx

Hey. Yep, only picture I got. Baby was such a wriggler. Will have to see. I have a boy already so would love a girl but as long as baby healthy that's all that matters xx

I found out at 16 weeks with both my children, I couldn't wait! It definitely helped me bond, being able to refer to them as he/she rather than it and helped with choosing names.

For nub theory: correct for my son, incorrect for my daughter. So literally 50% success rate.

maofteens · 30/11/2021 10:20

Isn't it a surprise when you find out before giving birth too?
Fir me, knowing the sex meant I could name the baby and start bonding. It made it more real.
And our fourth was a girl so after three boys a really nice surprise though I tried to resist buying too many clothes!

grey12 · 30/11/2021 10:52

My first they said with confidence it was a boy and the next scan it was a girl 🤷🏻‍♀️

After that I only accept a sex determination if it's showing the crow jewels!!!

Can I say something?...... if you think now it's a boy (and start imagining everything about a boy!!!!) and then find out it's a girl, it's ok to be slightly upset. It's ok to kind of mourn the child you pictured in your head and then have a clean slate to appreciate the child that is coming Smile I was so hurt when everyone around me kept saying that girls were great and what not. Of course they are!!!! (I have 3 now!!) but so are boys!! And I was going to have a boy! And then he was gone Sad

Lol! It's actually the opposite, I really wanted a girl so trying to get my head around it's likely a boy. 🙈 xx

We found out the gender - massive help for me as I was convinced it was a girl and needed to process having a boy. Very excited to have a boy but had told people I thought it was a girl and we had imagined a girl first time around. I love picking names and clothes and telling people the gender, makes it feel real and like they are a person in their own right. He rather than it! Don’t really understand why you would wait when you can find out and get prepared. Not that gender matters really but it has helped me to bond now getting emotional seeing little boys rather than girls! Also everyone I know is having boys at the moment so in some ways kind of nice we have that in common. Find out!

With my first I didn't find out, loved the anticipation of everyone's guesses and the excitement of calling people after he was born to tell them. This time I have booked to find out and doing an Xmas day gender reveal. I would have loved a girl. Pretty sure it's a boy so will be good to know and bond etc xx

I've found out with 2 of my kids, had surprises with 2. Honestly, it's lovely both ways. It's a different experience, but lovely either way, and I've not regretted it either way.

caz198917 · 19/12/2021 09:20

I found out. He's a 💙 xx
