wow it’s all getting close now- jealous of you all with induction dates as I’m finding it really hard just sort of waiting- would be nice to have a ‘final’ date in mind! I’m not sure if they’ll offer me an induction or not yet, seeing consultant 5th Jan so we’ll see! Well done all on your massage efforts- you’ve encouraged me to give it another go.

I’m actually struggling to find ‘maternity’ pads here- I’ve bought some incontinence ones as they were the biggest I could find! @Luckymamma do you have any specific recommendations? I saw a few tricks online aswell where new mums were dabbing witch hazel on some pads & putting them in the fridge- thought that was quite a good idea! X

Luckymamma · 30/12/2021 21:40

@sjxoxo yes these: www.boots.com/boots-organic-cotton-maternity-towels-10pk-10291541

Big and soft and squishy! I put a bit of aloe on mine, and yes witch Hazel does the same. Honestly a god send!! I’ve heard a drop of tea tree oil in some water in a peri bottle to wash with is nice too. I just used warm water but might give tea tree a go this time too!

Zonedoutallnight · 30/12/2021 21:47

Definitely agree on thick padded maternity towels rather than thin ones. You need a cushion to sit on.

I've bought some witch hazel pad liners as well - not tried them before but hoping for a soothing experience.

If you're planning to breastfeed get some lansinoh nipple cream too for sure and use it straight away - don't wait for them to get sore (which they will a bit even if you get it right straight away) and breast pads to put in your bra because when one boob is in use the other one leaks.

Luckymamma · 30/12/2021 21:56

Yes, and personally I found washable breast pads much nicer than disposable ones. I found the sposie ones stuck to my nipples 🤢 but the washable ones are lovely and soft!

Scottishgal85 · 30/12/2021 22:28

Thick padded liners are definitely essential. I got some from boots and they offer good cushioning. I had to have an episiotomy and also had a second degree tear so they have really helped. I also got some expert midwife 'spritz for bits' which I have used to both spray on and I've added some to my baths as well.

BobbleWobble1 · 31/12/2021 11:38

Sounds like everyone has been busy!

For those wondering about booster before/after delivery and feeling rotten with it - I would choose feeling rotten and pregnant than feeling rotten with a newborn every single time!

38+2 now and have got car seat a crib etc set up. Bags packed at last - I'm so much less organised this time!

Another recommendation for lansinoh nipple cream - don't waste time with anything else. Also their disposable breast pads though I plan to use reusable this time as I leaked a lot!

Would also recommend a feeding pillow for sitting on when you're a bit tender down there. Made such a difference!

Covid has hit our house!

36+2 weeks double vaccinated, only had my second jab last month. Only mild symptoms and on day 3/4, lost my taste and smell which is weird.

Has anyone else had covid during pregnancy, I’m panicking a bit in case it causes any harm to baby

SouthwestSis · 31/12/2021 12:58

Sorry to hear that @Alle1991 but thank goodness you got your 2nd jab in time!
Keep as active as you can inside the house, drink plenty of water, and get friends and family to drop round some treats whilst you are isolating.
You should also call your midwife as they'll need to update your clot risk assessment and you may need blood thinning injections to help prevent clots in your legs, lungs and placenta.

thecapitalsunited · 31/12/2021 15:40

Here’s hoping that your symptoms stay mild, @Alle1991. One of the ladies in my NCT group had covid a few weeks back and sailed through even though her DH was quite sick.

For all those talking about maternity pads, I ordered some cold pack maternity pads from Amazon. You snap them in half to release some sort of liquid that goes ice cold but they’re absorbent like regular maternity pads. The reviews were very positive!

Luckymamma · 31/12/2021 17:38

@Alle1991 hope you stay well! Hopefully as you’re jabbed all will be well, but yes worth updating your midwife!

@thecapitalsunited yeah I’ve seen those cool pads and wondered! I was quite sore after both previous labours! Will have a look on Amazon!

DiAne17 · 31/12/2021 19:19

So im new here.
I'm Diane.
I'm pregnant with my 3rd child. I'm panicking because I've just eaten something which has sesame oil in ... ive read mixed reviews about the safety of it during pregnancy...what are your thoughts ?

MamaDaria · 31/12/2021 19:55

@DiAne17 Hi there. Haven't heard anything bad about sesame oil. If it was proven to be bad in pregnancy it would be written on the official NHS websites. I'm sure I have eaten sesame oil in the food that I ordered from restaurants, so no panic needed.
How is your pregnancy going so far?

Trinacham · 31/12/2021 22:16

@Alle1991

Covid has hit our house!

I did quite early on at 17 weeks. I wasn't poorly at all - just had a runny nose and sneezing. Baby was fine and is still looking and developing great now at 36 weeks :)
DiAne17 · 31/12/2021 23:36

Pregnancy is going OK. Been referred to early pregnancy as had some bleeding but all ok and no further bleeding now.
I'm only early 10 weeks. Had bad experiences in the past so I'm very much a worrier

thecapitalsunited · 01/01/2022 17:53

@DiAne17 You might be better starting your own thread or joining the one for your due month because we’re all due this month and those early weeks are a distant memory. But the monthly due date threads are great for reassuring yourself that you are not alone because there will be someone else going through something similar. Hope everything goes well for you!

DoctorBambino · 01/01/2022 20:18

Can't believe we are finally in our due date month, really excited to hear about all the babies being born soon! I've finally had my elcs agreed, no official date yet but will be the week of 24th Jan. Hoping I hold out til then!

Can't remember who our earliest due date is?

SouthwestSis · 01/01/2022 22:12

So exciting but it still doesn't feel real to me!
I'm due towards the end of the month, but only have a few days left at work. Quite a bit of baby prep left to do but really worried I'll get bored on mat leave before baby comes....
Would love for covid to do one so I could enjoy the pre-baby time more!

sjxoxo · 02/01/2022 02:53

It is exciting isn’t it- also a bit scary! I am trying to keep calm about the birth but finding that really hard. If it wasn’t the first time I’d feel more positive but as a FTM I feel
Like you just don’t know in advance how the birth will go and what to really expect. I am scared it will be traumatic! Even at this late stage after all the preparations I just don’t see how someone can come out of my body that way 🤣 I did find this thread though which I found reassuring!

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/childbirth/4408973-ftm-and-i-m-terrified

Hope you’re all well and not too uncomfortable.. I am properly waddling around now!
xo

Luckymamma · 02/01/2022 19:54

@sjxoxo I’m not sure it gets easier not being a ftm! I had a great Labour with my first but then developed complications. No complications with my 2nd but found it a lot more painful and stressful! This time round just trying to stay positive and calm! Breathing and staying calm helped me through my 1st massively!! I’d highly recommend doing some breathing practise if you haven’t already!

I’m def waddling now too! Getting more uncomfortable, I’m one of the later ones, due 29th but we’ll see when baby makes an appearance!

@SouthwestSis hope you start to feel better soon! Don’t get bored on mat leave make the most of it!! I have 2 kids at home and can’t really relax anymore, enjoy it!!

@DoctorBambino eeek that’s really exciting!! Fingers crossed you hold out, I’m sure you will Smile

BobbleWobble1 · 03/01/2022 17:44

I'm due 12th January so I think I'm one of the earlier ones. Reckon I'll go over though.

I agree with @Luckymamma that I actually preferred the waiting first time. Didn't have another child to think about and also was blissfully unaware of what was to come!! I'm finding the waiting more stressful this time for sure.

I'm still feeling pretty good though and currently filling the freezer with batch cooking.

Hope everyone is well.

Alle1991 · 03/01/2022 18:00

For some reason my notifications stopped again so only just seen your messages, thanks for your well wishes. Thankfully symptoms are very mild. Did a day 6 lateral flow and still showing positive Sad means missing my midwife appointment this week, will have to rearrange to next week.

Is anyone planning to give birth at a birth centre rather than the hospital?

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 03/01/2022 18:20

I'm getting induced on the 20th Jan I think, staff and beds permitting. Trying to do what I can to get baby to come naturally before but I don't know how much any of it works

LilmissCa · 03/01/2022 18:52

Looking to join in, due on 13th. Thought I would have went by now as my 1st was born 37.5wks. But no movement with this one.
Hips are killing me at night so not sleeping great.
Hope everyone is doing good.. finally our due month!!

sjxoxo · 03/01/2022 18:57

For those who already have DC- what were your signs of labour or early labour with your previous bubbas?

I had a strep B swab this morning & it was agony- I feel so swollen & sore down there, like someone has kicked me between the legs! It’s come on gradually but worse and worse and sort of achey. If I wasn’t pregnant I’d say my period would be coming in a day or so… do you think it sounds like the beginning.. I really don’t know but the wait is killing me 😬 wondering what your early symptoms were! Xox

LilmissCa · 03/01/2022 21:16

@sjxoxo oh I'd say that's definitely a sign of labour approaching!! Period like pains is a classic start sign.., exciting!!

If you don't mind me asking did they automatically do a strep b test or did you request? I'm in consultant in the morning so was planning on mentioning it
