Did you get a BFP having only done the deed once?!

Due to erratic cycles and DH’s work shifts, we have only managed to DTD once this cycle, on the day of my LH peak (so one day before ovulation).

I’m looking for some success stories to keep me smiling, instead of fed up that we’ve missed our chance this month!

Thank you Smile

I did, was a shock but a very happy one and we feel very lucky. I’m 33 and DP is 40 so we were expecting it to take a while to conceive. We dtd the day before I ovulated.

LifeIsBusy · 08/11/2021 22:29

2 IUI treatments and 2 babies

Ilikecheeseontoast · 08/11/2021 22:30

Yes. First pregnancy was the result of 8 years ttc and 4 gruelling rounds of IVF. Second pregnancy was a complete surprise miracle after only DTD once (husband was working away!) and we weren’t actually ttc! Good luck!

Ilikecheeseontoast · 08/11/2021 22:31

Forgot to add the deed was 2 days before ovulation

mswales · 08/11/2021 22:33

Yes twice, once age 35 and once age 40

Birchwoods · 08/11/2021 22:34

Yes, five or six times.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 08/11/2021 22:36

Well, if you get the timing right you only need to do it once to have a decent chance at getting pregnant....happens all the time. If you get the timing wrong then you have no chance.

sweetkitty · 08/11/2021 22:37

Yes with no2, first time TTC and only time that month as DH was working away and we had a going away quickie, imagine his shock when I phoned him 2 weeks later Grin took us 9 months with DD1.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 08/11/2021 22:40

All these people who assume they are more fertile than the rest of the normal population because they got pregnant on the first night of trying 🤣

It's normal to fall pregnant quickly if the sperm meets the egg and there are no fertility issues....

It always surprises me when people have surprises or accidents. I don't know how it can be a surprise if you didn't take reasonable precautions...

Soono · 08/11/2021 22:44

Oh, this is encouraging! Grin

This happened to me and I have PCOS to boot! This is my 2nd pregnancy, and it took 18 months after coming off the pill to get pregnant with my first.

This time, stopped breastfeeding when DS was 16 months, which brought my period back. Had two, 6-week cycles. Had sex on CD 16, wasn't even really tracking, and that was the only time that cycle. Got my BFP 15 days after that!

Amelia891 · 08/11/2021 23:29

Yep! And it was twins!

Hairyfriend · 08/11/2021 23:31

Yes.

LeedleLee · 09/11/2021 06:16

I was on the mini pill, took it religiously every day and never missed one. I'm now five weeks pregnant Grin

Carbis · 09/11/2021 06:35

We had ivf for our first and a happy surprise with our second. Apparently this is very common.

I don't think anyone has claimed superior fertility @Talkwhilstyouwalk. They've just answered the question posed and shared their surprise. Of course we all know it's possible to fall pregnant after DTD once, you just tend to think it's rather improbable particularly when friends around you have been struggling, all the talk on here is OPK sticks and tracking cervical mucus, and we have it drilled into us that our fertility drops off a cliff after 30. As a result, it comes as quite a shock when it happens so quickly and easily.
kt12mum · 09/11/2021 08:03

Yep first time with both

FrancescaContini · 09/11/2021 08:03

Yes
Three times

LeedleLee · 09/11/2021 10:09

@Talkwhilstyouwalk Even if both parents are young, healthy, have no fertility issues and are having regular unprotected sex, there's still only around a 25-30% chance of getting pregnant each cycle.

Also, no form of contraception is 100% effective besides not having sex. Most forms are between 90-99% effective, meaning between 10 and 1 in a 100 people will get pregnant despite using it. 10 in a 100 really isn't THAT uncommon.

CustardGoodJamGoodMeatGood · 09/11/2021 10:19

Yep. Nearly 12 months of trying with DD, took one time whilst I was on the pill this time

Toastytoads · 09/11/2021 10:23

It the words of Take That "It only takes a minute girl"

That's a high chance!! So if someone has an 'accident'/forgets to use contraception mid cycle then there is a 25-30% chance of a pregnancy (for the average woman).

Agree that no form of contraception is 100% but 99% still means that most 'unplanned pregnancies' (which make up 50% of all pregnancies) are not the result of contraception failure....a few are, it can happen but the vast majority are due to lack of contraception meaning that they are not really unplanned at all. I can't believe people are actually surprised when it works straight away!

Yep us too! It was a pleasant surprise since it had been so hard first time, but can't say it was unplanned as we were not using contraception....
Pamparam · 09/11/2021 11:57

Yes, first time we caught. Subsequent times have always tried a bit more to make sure but never more than twice when successful!

Ruibies · 09/11/2021 12:30

Yes, DTD just once in our second cycle of trying and it was on O-3. I was fuming, DH knew it was fertile week and for whatever reason arranged a night out or something that took him out of play for 2 days, then went on a stag do. I was convinced it was a dud cycle but still did a test 2 days before period was due anyway. Hit with a massive surprise BFP.

The cycle before we DTD every other day for the whole week and nothing. TTC is wild.

Sending you lots of good vibes!
