Clomid/Metformin journey 2021/22

A new thread for all of us out here using Clomid/Metformin in 2021! I thought we could document some of the things that are working for us, some of the things that are not, and share our successes and commisserations.
Me (32F) and my boyfriend (52M) have been trying to conceive our first child for nearly three years. He has near perfect reproductive health which is fantastic! I have quite extreme PCOS and AMH levels (97.2). We conceived once on our own in September 2020 but miscarried in November 2020.

After a long NHS wait, I have finally just finished my first round of Clomid 50mg and Metformin 1g - the good news is that I did ovulate, but sadly AF arrived this morning!

So, tomorrow I will start round two!
Like last time, I will take my Metformin with breakfast and dinner so that I am having it with food, and I will take Clomid at around 10pm before bed each night. This worked well for me and I only had some occassional night sweats last time.

I'll update this thread as I go and would love to hear about your experiences too!

All of that must sound really alarming to you, @ladyge and I wanted to be honest about my journey but please do take it all as anecdotal. It is just my experience and possibly not of use to you at all.

I think if you have light bleeding, you should be able to contact your GP and ask for some blood tests to check your hormone levels and just make sure everything is okay and perhaps get some supplements such as cyclogest if there is a small dip, but please also remember that a lot of ladies get light bleeding at this stage and everything is okay.

Xxxxxx

I do need a hug 😔 .. I was literally just cuddling and hugging my husband all night and he just listened bless him. And this morning as he was getting ready for work I kept crying 😂😂 now thinking back I feel like a emotional wreck but I’m scared & anxious & keep running to the loo to check. It’s horrible and I wish no one should have to go through with this.

me and my husband have now been trying for 3 years … I’ve never gotten pregnant before this year, which I honestly believe is due to Myo Inositol and Clomid in combo. (I have you to thank for this @Eskimo123 ) The first time I took Myo for a month in combo with Clomid I got pregnant and did the same thing again for this pregnancy.

I have heard Clomid thins out your lining so maybe that’s what causing the bleeding. I really don’t know. I did message the midwife and she’s said she can’t help until I’m 7 weeks (rediculous as that’s Tuesday) and I just have to wait it out.

im tempted to call my GP clinic and try getting an appointment. I doubt I’ll get an appointment now they take bookings for the day only starting at 8am 😡

@Hana89 your words have definitely helped. The Gynae has said the best step would be referral to a private clinic for IVF and has scheduled some tests again but I cant do those atm because I’m pregnant and I’m not too sure how to get a hold of that doctor again (he’s a hospital specialist so they contact you, you can’t contact them, strange)

im trying to keep calm as it’s only a light bleed and I’ve read so many forums saying it’s very common and goes away soon. I’m just hoping that’s the case because I don’t have to mental capacity to go through a MC again.

Eskimo123 · 15/07/2022 16:36

@ladyge i think light bleeding is common in pregnancy (and potentially even throughout). I had a light bleed at about the same time as you and everything was fine. My cousins wife had ongoing light bleeding she’s about 30 weeks now.
Bleeding is very common with placenta previa which I had. Most times this resolves itself but in my case it didn’t which resulted in my section. Aside from the early bleed, I did have some late term bleeding.
You have reminded me to order the inositol again! It is magic isn’t it I really really think it’s what helped me too.

just a update on baby, Niall was delivered on Monday. C section went perfectly, I wish I hadn’t been so scared and tried to enjoy it a bit more.
Niall is in ICU for some unrelated breathing issues. A bit of a shock for us but we feel he is turning a corner now and dr is confident he will be home in the near future.

best of lucky ladies x

ladyge · 15/07/2022 17:08

Haha @Eskimo123 thank you and congratulations!!!!!! Your baby is now in your arms and you must be so over the moon. I’m sure baby Niall will be just fine and will have a speedy recovery!

I have read sooooo many forums saying it’s very common a lot of people have had heavy bleeds too and have gone on to have a healthy pregnancy. I just really don’t know. I’m don’t know who to go to for blood works or scans to give me some reassurance of what’s going on or what I need to do. I called 111 today and they were no help at all just told me to go to A&E. my midwife said I won’t be seen by the EPU before 7 weeks and A&E will send me home to wait it out until then anyway. So I’m honestly hitting a wall about this.

Hana89 · 16/07/2022 21:43

@ladyge I really hope you're feeling better today and that the bleeding is slowing/stopping/ stopped 💖💖💖

@Eskimo123 Congratulations on baby Niall 🎉💖🎉💖 I hope you can welcome him home from the ICU very, very soon xxx

ladyge · 22/07/2022 18:17

@Hana89 unfortunately it didn’t 😔 it got heavier .. my previous MC was in April and I remember my breast tenderness went down couple days later whereas my boobs are still sore with this one.

i did a pregnancy test today and it’s come back positive. Just to add to the confusion 🙄

Ive contacted my GP to get some scans / blood works done. So let’s see how that turns out. I really hope it was just a harmless bleed 😢

ladyge · 22/07/2022 18:17

@Hana89 how are things with you? I hope your pregnancy is going smoothly xxx

Hana89 · 22/07/2022 21:35

Massive hugs to you @ladyge 💕💕💕💕
Well it does sound hopeful that your symptoms are different now from your previous MC. I think the best thing you can do while you wait for your appointments is to keep up with your vitamins, eat really nutritious food, and get plenty of rest. In these early stages of pregnancy, that is the best we can do.

I think I'm going along okay - I'm in one of those funny lulls where there are no appointments for a while and nothing much to do except eat well, take vitamins, and find a balance between exercise and rest! Pregnancy is a lot of waiting, isn't it? Xxx

ladyge · 17/10/2022 22:52

Hey - I’m so sorry I’ve been awol for months. I’ve just been trying to build up the courage to speak about my ectopic pregnancy.

it turns our back in July my mc was an ectopic. I had surgery which meant I had to remove my tube. This is such a hard journey and I just don’t know what I can do anymore 😔

BUTTTTTT I’m feeling positive. I’ve dropped NHS out of my life and got a private clinic I’m going to now. They’re monitoring me well and I’m starting Letrozole (or however it’s spelt) on my next period! Apparently this works better for women with PCOS so let’s see :)

@Hana89 i hope your pregnancy is going well !! You’re almost approaching your due date! How exciting 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕

@Eskimo123 how’s mom life with baby?! 💕

love to you both xxx

ladyge · 17/10/2022 22:53

I wrote my previous message in two chunks that’s why you can see a clear difference of sad and happy 😂😂

Eskimo123 · 18/10/2022 08:31

@ladyge so sorry to hear about your ectopic. I can only imagine the pain and stress. I’m happy for you that you have a new plan that you sound optimistic about.

mom life is lovely but unexpectedly I have become one of those crazy possessive mums which I think may be pushing people away. I’m working on it though.

we have decided to “see what happens” these next few months before actively TTC again but I have to admit to already using the ovulation test kits! I would be content just to have one child but if I’m having a second I just want the TTC and pregnancy to be over with asap. My husband wants a second and I’m happy with one or two.

Janejanedoe86 · 18/10/2022 09:38

So sorry re your ectopic. This happened to 2 of my
close friends and had to have tube removed. They both still got pregnant and one of them it was from the tubeless side, the other side reached over and took the egg! The body is amazing try stay positive. X

ladyge · 26/10/2022 14:06

@Eskimo123 hahah thank you so much! I am trying to stay positive but I can’t help worry! And it’s so exciting you’re thinking about a second! I’ve heard people say after you have your first it’s easy to conceive the second so I think if I was in your shoes I’d probably be thinking the same!

@Janejanedoe86 thank you! Your kind words mean a lot. It’s been such a rollercoaster of emotions - the doctor did tell me that this can happen but let’s see what happens.
