Clomid/Metformin journey 2021/22

A new thread for all of us out here using Clomid/Metformin in 2021! I thought we could document some of the things that are working for us, some of the things that are not, and share our successes and commisserations.
Me (32F) and my boyfriend (52M) have been trying to conceive our first child for nearly three years. He has near perfect reproductive health which is fantastic! I have quite extreme PCOS and AMH levels (97.2). We conceived once on our own in September 2020 but miscarried in November 2020.

After a long NHS wait, I have finally just finished my first round of Clomid 50mg and Metformin 1g - the good news is that I did ovulate, but sadly AF arrived this morning!

So, tomorrow I will start round two!
Like last time, I will take my Metformin with breakfast and dinner so that I am having it with food, and I will take Clomid at around 10pm before bed each night. This worked well for me and I only had some occassional night sweats last time.

I'll update this thread as I go and would love to hear about your experiences too!
@Eskimo123 congratulations! It's so strange you say that - I currently use medication to bring on a period and I've had no success with pregnancy yet. Maybe I do need to wait for a natural period for this to work?

I don't come on my period regularly and it's so frustrating trying to conceive. Im currently on 150mg Clomid 😣
Hi LAdyge,
Sorry to hear that you're not having success. Despite the cocktail of medication I have been on, I really do believe there is only so much that can be overcome by synthetic hormones and I don't think kick starting a natural healthy cycle is one of them. The bleed with the pills is a withdrawal bleed rather than really the start of a cycle and so I feel that taking clomid on day 2 of this "cycle" is a bit false. I'm no doctor though! (but most doctors dont seem to really have good enough answers either!)
My bleed with the provera was very light and didn't really compare to the real bleed that I had 3 weeks later.
I did get my real period despite taking the provera though so one positive is that you don't have to decide between one or the other - your period will come when it wants to. It sucks waiting dosn't it! I used to get so frustrated that my friends had a fresh start to try each month and I was still waiting for my next period.
Also, if you haven't researched myo inositol - please look at the reviews on Amazon. People really are hailing it as a miracle and it might have contributed to my natural period. There are also clinical studies that you can look at if you google - but I think the reviews speak for themselves.

ladyge · 14/12/2021 20:37

Thank you so much @Eskimo123 ❤️ you words have been a breath of fresh air. At this point I'm willing to try anything.

I did see your post about Myo and I did Google it & have already ordered it to try 🙄 how many months did you take it for it to have an effect?

Sometimes I just feel like I should stop inducing my period and let my body do it's work naturally. & when the period does finally arrive (fingers crossed sooner rather than later) I'll take the Clomid.

But then again, I don't want to waste time and when I do see a doctor them to find out I haven't done my 6 months and them not moving me onto the next treatment which might have better success for me.

It's such a crazy cycle and I'm honestly exhausted. I'm trying not to get too bogged down but it's hard. And I really don't think anyone else understands this.

I feel like the NHS has honestly failed me with all this. They are not offering me scans or further blood work because 150mg is the highest they want to go. Now I'm just me blindly taking the medication and hoping for success. The doctor said they will see me a month after I complete my 6th cycle. 🤷🏽‍♀️

ladyge · 14/12/2021 20:40

@Eskimo123 which myo inositol did you order. I just want to buy one with a reference rather than anything

Eskimo123 · 14/12/2021 20:56

@ladyge I bought the BeLive Myo Inositol and D-Chiro with folic acid. I started taking it about 20th September and then had my first period about 19th October. I did use provera and had a bleed in between those dates. I also used clomid and seemed to ovulate but then got my period 7 days after ovulation.
I think it is recommended for the supplements to build up in your system for a few weeks before you will see results.

Good luck girl!

ladyge · 15/12/2021 06:59

@Eskimo123 thank you! I'll definitely give this a go & let u know how I get on 😁 x

PCOSWarrior · 29/12/2021 14:56

Hi ladies, sadly I have had another MMC - again the baby stopped developing at 5-6 weeks. I have a D&C scheduled for tomorrow and then I expect I will undergo some more tests before we try clomid again to see if we can find out why this has happened twice in a row. I do wonder if it is my progesterone. Even though I started pesseries as quickly as possible, by the time I got a GP appointment, had the first test, waited, had the second test, and waited for results, I didn't begin taking the progesterone supplements until I was already nearly 6 weeks and I wonder if by then it was already too late?
I don't know.
I'm pretty crushed at the moment and can't believe lightning struck twice but I am hopeful that if we can find out what is going wrong with me, then maybe we can have better luck in future.
I hope you both have better news? Or even 'no news is good news' :) Lots of love xxx

@PCOSWarrior oh no!!! I'm so sorry!!! I honestly feel so crushed for you 😭 I hope you get to the bottom of this, I'm sure you're doing everything you need to do - I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you; third time lucky! Let me know how you get on with the visits and what they say x

I've just finished my Clomid round 3 of 150mg. So very early in the cycle for me but hopefully this cycle will be the one!

PCOSWarrior · 04/01/2022 12:35

Thank you @ladyge

@PCOSWarrior I have read a lot on here that when you stop actively trying you're more likely to fall pregnant haha so fingers crossed this works for you! & I definitely think you need a break to just come back stronger and better! I'm with you all the way hun!

I did order Myo Inositol :) I've been taking it since mid December. Fingers crossed it does the trick, there were a lot of positive reviews so I'm hoping it works for me too.

PCOSWarrior · 30/01/2022 14:52

Hi ladies! How are you getting on? I've been thinking of you and keeping everything crossed for good news and healthy pregnancies for us all!

Last week I got my negative test after our MMC and D&C on 30th Dec. It was a tough week mentally but I've been using this month to focus on diet and fitness to keep the blues at bay.
I've got a pre-referal appointment for the Recurrent Miscarriage clinic in Manchester on 17th Feb and hoping by April we'll have some answers and I can start on Metformin and Clomid again with a proper care plan in place for if we are lucky again. 🤞

I'm not too sure what to make of this 😳

PCOSWarrior · 24/03/2022 08:25

@ladyge OMG!!! THAT'S A LINE! THAT IS ABSOLUTELY 100% A SECOND LINE! 🎉🎉🎉🎉

Maybe take another test tomorrow morning to confirm but I think you have cause to celebrate, my dear!

OP posts:
ladyge · 24/03/2022 09:38

@PCOSWarrior 🫣🫣🫣 I don't want to get too excited because I want it to be strong before I even tell my husband 😂 .. I was thinking of trying again over the weekend.

I did this one this morning.. I was also reading online and it said it could be an evaporation line which I have no clue what that means.

I've never been pregnant before so idk what to expect! .. I had sore boobs and random cramps so thought I'd give this a try and 🥹 I really really really hope it's good news!

Hope everything is going well with you too!

PCOSWarrior · 24/03/2022 10:43

@ladyge hmmm. I guess it could be an evap line but I honestly don't think so. I'll follow your lead and take a breath but if you test at the weekend and it is the same or stronger, I'm raising a glass to you 💗💗💗

No news from me. I haven't had a bleed since my MMC, so no opportunity to try yet!

OP posts:
ladyge · 24/03/2022 11:07

@PCOSWarrior I hope so too! I'll post my next results too 😂 .. it's definitely comforting that you saw it too!

Ahh no! You can get tablets to force a menstrual cycle to occur. Have you tried those?

PCOSWarrior · 24/03/2022 12:26

@ladyge I have got a pack of those but I haven't used them. Tbh I'm not 100% sure I'm emotionally ready yet anyway, and if my body isn't quite there either, I don't mind waiting a little while 😊 xx

Congratulations @ladyge!! That looks like a line to me!

I don’t think I could hold off until the weekend I’d be doing a pink line or digital one this evening 🙈

Just as an update for anyone else who is obsessively googling after being prescribed clomid, it also worked for me on 3 round and I’m now 10 weeks ☺️ Still pinching myself!

Hope everyone else is doing well Xx

ladyge · 25/03/2022 05:53

@PCOSWarrior I completely understand that, it's best not to pressure yourself. Take it slow and ithe magic will happen ✨

@Riviera90 hahaha thank you! But I'm not even sure if it's an actual pregnancy yet lol .. I'm so scared that it might come back as a negative next time I do it that's why I'm holding off 🫣

I thought I was seeing things when I saw the faint line 😅 .. congratulations hun! I hope you and your baby lots and lots of health !!! ❤️

That's so scary because this is my 3rd Clomid cycle too 😁

Thank you so much, your kind words mean a lot. Unfortunately I had a chemical pregnancy. I’m not too sure what happened tbh. I was being so careful but I still can’t help but blame myself.

I just hope it happens again for me 🥺😭

PCOSWarrior · 04/04/2022 21:44

Oh my love 💔 I had a chemical pregnancy once too and it is heartbreaking. There is nothing in the world you could have done to prevent it so please try not to blame yourself. I will be sending you all good and healing wishes, @ladyge xxxx
