If you were told your baby would be big, were they?

I had a scan and the abdominal circ was measuring off the scale - not even plottable on the little chart. Babys femur however was measuring smaller than the 50th and the head and other measurements were on/around 50th (I haven’t got exact measurements sorry!!) at 36 weeks baby was estimated at 7lbs so I’m now having a section at bang on 39 weeks.

Just wondered if you were told something similar whether you did go on to have a ‘bigger’ baby? Both my others were less than 7lbs so I suppose an estimated 9lbs ish at time is bigger for me?

I was induced a week early because of concerns about my daughter weight. She was 7.9 lb. Definitely not a big baby!

ancientgran · 29/10/2021 13:02

Said he'd be big, I'm not tall or big built, and he was 10lbs at 40 weeks plus 5. I was induced, I'd bargained with Consultant on dates, he wanted to do it a few days early but eventually agreed a date. I was pleased as when they induced me I was already 4 cm dilated so I think that was the day he was meant to be born.

Consultant was worried about letting it go too long as it was just 2 years after a EMCS.

He was my biggest baby and fastest labour.

Good luck.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 29/10/2021 13:02

No. 'He'll be much bigger than ds1', born 8lbs at 39 weeks. 6lbs 9 Hmm

GiltEdges · 29/10/2021 13:06

Conversely, it can also go the other way. I had quite a small bump throughout and no one ever said anything about DS being big. In fairness he was 9 days overdue, but was 9lbs13 when born! The midwives said he did a good job of duping us all by hiding out up under my ribs Grin

cushioncovers · 29/10/2021 13:07

Yes he was 9lbs 8 oz. felt like I'd birthed a toddler

Loyaultemelie · 29/10/2021 13:10

Dd1 was preemie and tiny but dd2 was predicted to be well over 9lb but was 6lb 13 born on due date. She was all head!

RavenclawsRoar · 29/10/2021 13:14

I've been having growth scans and by all accounts I'm expecting an absolute monster Grin I don't know how much to trust it - lots of my friends have had growth scans that have been completely inaccurate. I'm also having a c section though, so not overly fussed.

minimecantrollerskate · 29/10/2021 13:20

yes, I had consultant led care due to being overweight, he kept telling me not to eat pasta or drink orange juice ( I do neither anyway!) and that I would have a big baby.

Baby was 6lb 15oz

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 29/10/2021 13:20

Yes, estimated 10lb at term, was 10lb11 11 days late

Teesdale2622 · 29/10/2021 13:25

Midwife whilst I was in labour said she thought baby would be a small baby boy…
9lb2oz dd popped out a few hours later..Grin

househuntinginthesouth · 29/10/2021 20:55

I was told I'd be having a 10lb baby but DC was 2 weeks overdue, no where near 10lb and fitted in tiny baby clothes.

Tiredmum100 · 29/10/2021 20:58

I had growth scans throughout both my pregnancies. With dc2 it was because they thought he was going to be big. I think I had a scan about 36 weeks and he was estimated to be 9lb something oz, he was born 40+5 and was 9lb, 9.5 oz. So yes he was big as predicted. He's just turned 8 and is very skinny and very tall for his age.

JurgensCakeBaby · 29/10/2021 21:06

DH was a near 11 pound baby and I was told DS was going to be big I was terrified to be honest, MIL told me there a reason she only had one... DS was 7 pounds 4 so completely average, but long and gangly like his father

bubblebath62636 · 29/10/2021 21:07

I was told 11lb 4oz, elected for a c section. She was 8lb 4oz.

frazzledasarock · 29/10/2021 21:15

I was told she’d be over 9lb, they were measuring her femur and I had diabetes. She was 7lb 8oz she had the longest skinniest legs I’ve ever seen on a baby. She’ll be really tall when older as she is all legs and thin as a stick.

firstimemamma · 29/10/2021 21:18

I was told ds had a big abdomen in scans and had to have loads of growth scans. He was nearly 9 pounds but perfectly in proportion so the abdomen thing was wrong.

My friend kept on being told her baby would be very big, growth scans etc, but baby was born weighing a very average 7 lbs 12.

These things aren't always right!

TattySlippers · 29/10/2021 21:20

On my first I was prepared to have a Caesarian birth as “Baby is going to be too big to deliver naturally”.

Baby was 7lb 4oz. And not a stitch was needed 😂

santabetterwashhishands · 29/10/2021 21:25

Yep they said all three of mine were going to be big and they were.
9.3 @ 40 weeks
10.7 @ 40 weeks
9.15 @ 37 weeks

ElfDragon · 29/10/2021 21:30

My first I measured small for dates. She was born at 40+4 weighing 6lb 6

My second I measured so small for dates they re-dated me (even though I knew what they re-dated could not be right). She was born at full term ish (difficult to know, given the messing around with dates!) and weighed 7lb 12

My third I was measuring small for dates (again!) and by the time I was 34 weeks my consultant (3rd c section birth, hence consultant) was really concerned, as I was measuring so small. He was born at 39+2, weighing 8lb 14!

Thankfully he was my last, as I wouldn’t have wanted another lb+ increase in birthweight with my next one 😂

Anycolourwilldo · 29/10/2021 21:30

Yes, yes he was massive. I'm glad it took the advice of the medical professionals and not those who said 'they always get the growth scans wrong'. Most of the time, they get the growth scans right.

Verbena87 · 29/10/2021 21:33

I was told big, but that it was not an exact science. I wish I’d listened and induced sooner as he was 10lbs9oz when he arrived!

TheFairyCaravan · 29/10/2021 21:35

My GP told me DS2 was going to be big. I had a scan at 36 weeks and they consultant told me he was tiny.

He was born spot on 37 weeks weighing 8lb, 60cm long with a 37cm head. I’m so glad he didn’t go full term

ScotsMumOf4 · 29/10/2021 22:06

Im 36+1 and my bump is measuring off the scale, has been for a while but at my growth scan yesterday they said his estimated birth weight is 8 and a half lbs.
My ds was estimated at over 9 and a half lbs and was 8lbs 4 oz at 39+6. He looked like a 3 month old baby when he was born though. There is alot of margin for error with scans

DesertIslandPenguin · 29/10/2021 22:24

Estimated at 14lb and was a perfectly normal 9lb 7 at birth.

Strictly1 · 29/10/2021 22:25

I was told baby would be big. Baby was under 6lbs. Good luck.
