Do some people just cook babies longer?

I'm pregnant with my fourth, and so far I've gone overdue in all three pregnancies so I'm fully expecting to go over again, assuming that I just cook them a bit longer. I was just idly wondering if this is a thing though, that some women naturally have longer pregnancies, or did I just get unlucky three times (I'm not a fan of late pregnancy 😂) ?

My ndn had 6 dc. Never went into labour naturally...
I have had loads. Went ft will all but the last one.

TurnUpTurnip · 27/10/2021 20:08

I’ve had 4 and over due with all of them the shortest was by 10 days, the others was by 2 weeks each, most women I’ve noticed seem to have them before their due date which always makes me jealous 😬

RoseAndGeranium · 27/10/2021 20:10

Yes, some of it is genetic. I forget the stats but it is generally accepted that some family lineages just have longer gestations. In my family both my babies and all my mother’s and sister’s babies were late, most by over a week.

DanceForeverUnderTheLights · 27/10/2021 20:10

This made me smile because it's the exact phrase my midwife used with me. Both my babies were 2 weeks late and she told me that I must just cook them longer and, if I had another, to expect them to be 2 weeks late. I never did though.

SadSongsAndWaltzes · 27/10/2021 20:11

My first was born at 39+0, went into labour naturally. I was expecting the same for my second but ended up being induced due to reduced movements and she was born at 40+2. So I'm not sure it always follows. Congratulations and good luck op!

capercaillie · 27/10/2021 20:11

Both mine born at exactly same gestation. According to the NHS, they were 44 weeks. According to my dates 42 weeks.

Santastuckincustoms · 27/10/2021 20:12

I had 2 induced as were both over 2 weeks late. I always wonder how long they'd be if left to go naturally. 22 years?? Grin

DeJaDont · 27/10/2021 20:13

I had four kids. First was 3 weeks over due with daily scans for placental monitoring. Ended in induction. #2 was 13 days over due. #3 was induction after 15 days of daily placental monitoring. #4 child was stay off Labour 12 days late and born 14 days late.

My two sisters also both went 10-15 days over due and both needed c sections as the induction team couldn't get them started. I gave birth normally.

So In my family we certainly do bake them for longer. All of our kids are quite intelligent and all are above average.... but do suffer have neuro divergence that seems to run in our family

User0ne · 27/10/2021 20:25

There is some evidence that suggests that some women cook them longer (and shorter too). Older women are more likely to go over 40 weeks.

But because women in the UK often have sweeps/their waters broken artificially/are induced at 40 weeks it's virtually impossible to work out what is "normal".

It's the medical conundrum between"doing something" or "wait and see". In the UK midwifery services very much veer towards "doing something" even if there's no other indication that it's needed especially when it comes to timescales.

woodhill · 27/10/2021 20:27

Mine were all early so perhaps we all vary in our carrying times itms

DowntonCrabby · 27/10/2021 20:29

I think so, I went to 42 weeks and 42+2 with mine.

Peggytheredhen · 27/10/2021 20:31

My sister and I had five babies between us, all over 10 days overdue, with three needing inducing. As my sister arrived on her due date, I assume we do not get this from my DM, if it is a genetic tendency.

Snozzlemaid · 27/10/2021 20:33

Both mine were born at 37+3.
Midwife commented in my second labour that I obviously cook mine quicker!

offyougotwantychops · 27/10/2021 20:38

I think in France full term is 42 weeks, I seem to remember reading it when I was pregnant with DD, but that was 11 years ago, and happy to be corrected if I'm wrong.

Pumpkinstace · 27/10/2021 20:38

Both my children were 2 months early.

Both of them.

No clear reason for it.

Justanotherquestioner · 27/10/2021 20:42

Both of mind were born earlier than their due date. One at 37+1. The order was at 39+4.
Both around 6 and a half lbs. I think I have a weight limit Grin

Bilingualspingual · 27/10/2021 20:45

Mine was 42 weeks and I read somewhere that it can correlate with the length of your menstrual cycle. Mine is about 31/32 weeks, so it makes sense that my pregnancy might be longer than average too.

Bilingualspingual · 27/10/2021 20:45

Sorry, my cycle is 31 days not weeks!

ShonkyWonkyDonkey · 27/10/2021 20:54

41+0 with both of mine

catsandhens · 27/10/2021 20:57

40 mins at 180 then I turn it down to 150 for 20 mins so they dont get too dry, then serve with fava beans and a little chianti (this is for a fan oven, timings and temperatures may vary) Smile

Hohofortherobbers · 27/10/2021 21:03

Overdue both of my dc, 42 with dc1 and 40+5 with dc2. I have a long menstrual cycle, 32-35 days usually

Hohofortherobbers · 27/10/2021 21:04

maybe

all of mine were late, apart from DS4 who was born via ELSC 5 days before EDD.

I guess I like to cook my babies until tender 😋

Redpanda21 · 27/10/2021 21:05

39+4 and 40+1 be interesting to see if this one is roughly the same

newtb · 27/10/2021 21:07

Simeone in my ante-natal gp said a longer cycle means a longer natural pregnancy. She ended up with a section as she wanted pethidine and the nurse with the key was at lunch.
I was 41 when dd was born, my cycle was 31days and she arrived on her due date 7hr labour, weighing 7lbs 2oz.
I was 2 months prem.
