my mind got to fantasing about how the birth would be on my commute home...

here's what went thru my niave first timer head as i stood swaying ob the 20.14 from Clapham Junction.

Kind of starts in the wee hours. for the drama, like.

wake up the husband off we pop to hospital

a few hours in hospital hanging out we get one of the single ensuite rooms on 7th floor overlooking westminster and the thames.

text my shiatsu therapist who is gagging to be at birth at about 8am. miraculously, she's free and jumps on her bike.

she arrives, massueses me while DH pops off for some breakfast.

on his return, massuesing's finished and the chi so successfully redirected that birth proper's about to start.

yogic birth lasting oooooohh.... lets say 35min????

babs is fine, i'm fine.

bit more hanging out. leave hospital bang on the six hour dot. me wearing the new Hush loungewear bottoms someone's thoughtfully bought me for xmas. babs in the Katvig bodysuit i've designated as her Going Home For the First Time outfits. It's a perfect fit.......

Hmmmm - I'd dream I was in labour, and wake up and find I'd had the baby in bed, whilst I was sleeping!

Supposedly that has really happened to someone before too!

No but seriously, I'd get to the hospital with just enough time for them to fill the water pool. I'd have a really nice midwife (who hasn't just done a 12h shift!), and I'd be given free-rein with the gas and air.

The baby would NOT be back to back (for once!) and would pop out easily.

I wouldn't need stitching, and we'd be on our way home half and hour later.

well - I can fantasize....

debinaustria · 06/12/2007 17:31

Mine would be - going into labour with mil here to look after the boys, at a reasonable time - not the middle of the night, getting to the hospital, them saying - you're 9cms already well done, let's get you in the pool, in the pool, english mw on duty, baby pops out after a few minutes - no tearing or stitches, a healthy baby who latches on straight away and I don't have that toe curling moment.
Move to room which I have to myself instead of sharing with someone who only speaks German and snores very loudly!!Baby sleeps, I sleep and wake up to find dh returned with ds's to meet their brother/sister.

we can all dream eh?

PatsyCline · 06/12/2007 17:52

DH would give birth.

debinaustria · 06/12/2007 19:01

I like that Patsy - but how much fuss would they make?

PortAndLemonaid · 06/12/2007 19:03

" Oh look, it's a baby..."

PuppyDogEyes · 06/12/2007 19:12

I want someone (perhaps a wizard) to magic it out...Alacazam (puff of smoke)...and theres the baby! (and a flat stomach with no trace of stretch marks).
Maybe the last bit is asking too much

HayleyandRoo · 07/12/2007 09:06

I'm with Port- a slight cough- I could maybe even stretch to a sneeze. And with PuppyDogEyes- Flat tummy and loss of baby weight afterwards!! Fantastic.

I'm hoping the birthing pool will be free, labour will only last 2 hours, and I'll only be pushing for about 10 minutes at the very most. I'm a naive first timer too!! I'd love to have my own private room rather than a ward with a hundred mums who have ten children and know exactly how to look after babies, and give me a funny look every time my baby cries. That would be my nightmare..after the obvious things.

mine would have to be the same as my last one, lovely mw who is very hands off, encourages me to move around and stays with me the whole time. not in hospital too long before birth (1 3/4 hrs last time) short pushing/crowning stage (2 min last time), no stitches . obviously no pain would be fab but i think that might be asking for to much

mumofk · 07/12/2007 11:50

I've just been on a hypnobirthing course so my (current) dream birth is at home, in the night, my favorite midwife has another delay with the new post she's going to so is actually available and on-call, my house miraculously stretches so a birth pool doesn't take up all available ground floor space, I'm so relaxed there's no pushing and its all over and tidied up in 3 hrs, and DD wakes up to new baby in the morning, with well rested mum and dad!! Probably as realistic as DH giving birth, but they tell you about the power of positive thoughts....

derah · 07/12/2007 12:36

Go into labour in early hours but it's no mild I sleep through it. Wake up in the morning to contractions which are starting to get serious. This would be a weekend morning so my extra birth partner can leave her ds at home (her dh works away all week).

Simple, relatively painless and fast-ish birth (not so quick that the mw doesn't have time to arrive!) with VERY short second stage, at home, in the pool.

Lovely happy baby arrives, no tearing, straight onto the boob, then both of us off to my nice fresh clean bed where someone will serve me a well-deserved snack.

Sweetiesandcakes · 07/12/2007 12:38

wake up finding a show in my knickers, go to the hospital, cough, ooh lovely baby!!!

ChasingSquirrelsUpTheXmasTree · 07/12/2007 12:45

pretty much like ds2's.
waters go, think huum this is probably it - 3 weeks early just like ds1, get a pampers mat and continue to sit on bed reading, 10 mins later have 1st contraction, call dh upstairs, approx 15mins and 4/5 contractions later ds2 slides out.
2nd stage could have been quicker, but wasn't stressful, then got rid of everyone who turned up after the event (ambulance crew, midwife) and went to bed - to have ds1 come in the next morning and be chuffed to bits to find the baby had arrived in the night.

Sweetiesandcakes · 07/12/2007 12:50

squirrel!!!! you lucky lady!

Don't much fancy reliving my birth with DD - hours of labour - 2 hours pushing, failed ventouse, forceps resulting in DD having a fractured skull and 2 bleeds on the brain all thanks to the stupid idiot who delivered her and me left sliced and diced back to front, severe piles (they had to come and poke them back in each morning)(sorry if TMI) and 2 bed sores where i had been left on the bed for 2 long and not able to move.

C - section with this pregnancy

PoinsettiaBouquets · 07/12/2007 12:57

Lovely retired midwife who lives next door (in my dreams) pops round for a coffee, notices me walking funny and points out there's a baby crowning. Baby slides out in the bath like an eel. MW also pops out to do schoolrun for me and get some fry-up ingredients. DH turns up at some point to cook said fry-up.

bumpybecky · 07/12/2007 14:33

another exactly like dd2's would be good

had been on pc all evening, back was aching, tried to go to bed at about midnight. Half and hour later realised it was getting worse and perhaps I was having contractions! DH called MW, MW came at about 1am, got into birth pool (all ready set up heated to right temp) about 10 mins later and had dd2 at 2.40am It was dark and calm (well until the dog went nuts when teh 2nd midwife arrived 10 mins after dd2!) and fantastic

dd1 slept through the whole thing

now if we can manage that again, preferably the day after Boxing Day (will be 40+2 then) I'll be delighted

HayleyandRoo · 08/12/2007 12:02

SweetiesandCakes- Is your DD ok now? Does that happen to many people? I feel so bad for you that you had to go through that, did the person who delivered your DD get the sack?

paulaplumpbottom · 08/12/2007 12:03

Like my friends mom. Ten minutes of labor followed by two minutes of pushing (It was her 12th) with no pain

KbearingGiftsWeTraverseAfar · 08/12/2007 12:07

The doorbell would ring and the stork would be there with the baby wrapped up and sleeping. "Mrs Kbear a delivery!" "ooh ta very much".

vixenwasp · 04/01/2008 22:11

I am sorry if this is an extremley stupid question, but i'm expecting my first in 4 weeks time and although I drive, my partner is a learner (insured on my car). How will this effect me getting to the hospital when labour starts?? What would you do? He suggests that if he is at work then an ambulance should be called, but i'm not very thrilled about that want to be nice and relaxed, not arriving at the hospital in an ambulance if poss! Can I drive myself there? hehe

thoughts appreciated, its these kind of things that play on my mind.

Lynsey

Octo · 04/01/2008 22:15

Stayed at home, rocked around leaning on cupboard, no other pain relief, waters broke, got to hospital, ds3 arrived 10 mins later Easy peasy

Octo · 04/01/2008 22:15

Ah misdread - but it was a dream birth

orangehead · 04/01/2008 22:26

Mine would be baby not lying back to back, labouring mostly at home having normal contractions not constant pain plus contractions. No vomiting. Go to hosp to be told I am 8 or 9 cm. Only push for 1/2 an hour instead of 3 hrs. Baby born normally without too much panic and no assistance and no stitches, and to be actually conscious this time. Baby delievered on to my chest and after intial checks enjoys a bf, again with me conscious

Octo · 04/01/2008 22:27

orangehead - I got that at my third attempt!

orangehead · 04/01/2008 22:52

ooh octo - I am wondering when preg with my third wheather or not to just have a planned section as I may be pushing my luck to try another natural birth. I started a thread a while back asking if anyone had had a successful 3rd birth after two disasterious ones, and no one had
