Getting really down as with my 1at I came of the pill in August and was pregnant by December and we were not even actually trying.

We have been trying for our 2nd for the last few months and nothing has happened and I was so disappointed when AF arrived this morning.

I have been of the pill for well over a year, (but we haven't actually been trying that long as we were using condoms or pull out method until about 5 months ago)

I've ordered some ovulation sticks of amazon for this cycle as I'm sure I'm getting my dates slightly wrong. Can someone please advise how to actually use them? If the positive result a few days before actual ovulation ?

Also would anyone recommend and vitamins or anything? I've read a lot about conception plus but I'm not sure !!

Is there anything else I should or shouldn't be doing as I'm getting really concerned something is wrong😥😥😥😥

Hi there, I personally don't have troubles conceiving. But I do however have problems with loss of pregnancies.

I'm currently 18 weeks pregnant finally after having my son 10 years ago and finally have a healthy baby!

I know its not the same but I did take myo-inositol, and previtamins. I did take high dose folic acid due to my babies I lost having neural tube defects so I took those also. I came off the implant in April. Was pregnant by June and truly believe I am here because of the vitamins I took before hand.

Wishing you all the baby dust in the world, hope you get your positive soon ❤️

It took me a couple of years second time which was unexpected after getting pregnant straight away first time. I was 10kg heavier after first baby and literally as soon as I dropped the 10kg I got pregnant with my second.

Km12345 · 28/09/2021 12:00

Thank you for your reply and so sorry to hear about your losses.

Is there a particular vitamin/folic acid that you took ?

Wishing you all the best with your pregnancy

@passionfruitpizza thank you for your reply. Yes that's what I'm concerned about is 2nd taking much longer . I'm healthy and eat a balanced diet and weight exactly the same as I did before my 1at pregnancy (9 and half stone) so I don't think that's the issue

It's been a few months op with all due respect. Just need to be patient and take your time. I'd understand if it had been over 12 months or so.

Its so hard when trying to conceive as your hopes are up every month. 5 months is not long to be trying, it could be the case that literally next cycle is your lucky one. They say healthy couples conceive usually in 6 cycles but you're allowed up to a year

I recommend Proceive advanced supplements (get the MAX version if your over 35) if under 35 you can use the capsule version) They really seem to boost fertility. I ate grapefruit before ovulation every day it boosts and thins out fertile cervical mucus. I really think these things help to conceive quickly as I only have one fallopian tube and i had two miscarriages was able to conceive quickly each time and I am now 19 weeks pregnant as a result of a third pregnancy.

Ovulation tests are positive between 24 to 48 hours before ovulation but most likely 36hours (a day and half before ovulation)
The most likely days to conceive are the 2 days before ovulation as opposed to ovulation day itself.

I find the clearblue advanced digital ovulation tests really good as they will give you high fertility and peak fertility meaning you get to know more of your fertile days which is usually a window of 5 days in a cycle.

The above stuff are expensive but you can get on 3 for 2 in Boots.

Other than that just exercise regularly if you can or just walk, and eat a moderately healthy diet. You don't need to restrict yourself from anything in moderation, as long as you're not drinking or taking mega doses of caffeine or drinking a lot of alcohol.

I gave up energy drinks and pre workouts as they are sky high in caffeine.

jolota · 28/09/2021 13:30

I would recommend the ovulation tests too. We were trying for 6 months before we bought them & got pregnant the first month using them as it turned out the estimated dates we used based on my periods were completely out.
Can't remember how to use them exactly but there were instructions in the box & it was pretty clear.

Floryella · 28/09/2021 14:29

Hey OP, you may like to check out the TTC board - there's a lot of useful info flying around there which I used then we were trying.

I took a lot of supplements - I'm in my late 30s and we knew we had a few issues. I took Myo-inositol as I have PCOS and this regulated my cycles, a really good multivitamin with folic acid, CoQ10 for egg quality and my husband took it for sperm and an omega 3 supplement. So basically I was rattling with the amount of pills I took! But we did conceive reasonably quickly even with sperm morphology issues and PCOS.

We also used the Clearblue Advanced Ovulation strips the month we conceived. As a previous poster has said these are really good as they help pin down the fertile window with a bit more certainty than the simple dip stick versions.

Good luck!

T0rt0ise · 28/09/2021 14:45

The reality is there is about a 3 day window in which you are fertile. With your first you got lucky and hit it, this time round you haven't yet (and I agree, as heartbreaking as it is 5 months really isn't that long in the grand scheme of things). Best advice I had was sex every two to three days throughout the month regardless of when you think you should be ovulating etc, only thing that worked for both of mine

LadyDanburysHat · 28/09/2021 14:50

I got pregnant with my first in the first month of trying. My second took a year. It was incredibly difficult mentally, so I know how you are feeling.

After 11 months we went to the GP who referred me for blood tests. I think just knowing the GP was going to help was enough to help me relax and just get pregnant. The advice is always to relax, which is hard to do.

fallhappy1 · 28/09/2021 14:56

Never used OPKs so can't give advice with them. Sounds like your concentrating on only DTD when you belive you're ovulating but for your best chance you need to DTD every 1-2 days throughout your cycle.

welshladywhois40 · 28/09/2021 16:23

Sadly I remember a GP telling me the statistics are a 30% chance if you manage to have sex on the right day.

I used clear blue stick tests and found those worked. It's the ones that test for two hormones - so you see the days leading up to ovulation and peak fertility. Very easy to use.

I used to chart everything and then you start to see your pattern. I ovulate early - even on day 7/8 sometimes. Wouldn't know this without the tests.

Lastly you don't mention age. It is harder as you get older (sorry) as I found out. But your GP would see you to start talking about basic tests after 6 months of trying after 35.

welshladywhois40 · 28/09/2021 16:26

Lastly - my partner used to look at what he could do to. So he read that eating celery makes more semen. So he used to eat more celery as well to make more semen. So sperm count is unaffected but there is more carrying liquid to help them find the target!

Who knows if that helped but why not?

Rosesareyellow · 28/09/2021 16:28

I have no suggestions, just wanted so say I know how you feel. With my first I got pregnant straight away. Tried for another at the beginning of this year, got pregnant straight away but it was an ectopic. Since then, nothing. Every period is such a disappointment. I’m trying to chill out about it now - as a pp said, it’s hard but it can all just take over too much. 5 months feels long but actually it’s not that long in the grand scheme of things.

PinzQueen · 28/09/2021 17:01

It wasn't happening for me either, for years and months (I'd try for months, and give up, and try again and give up...for years).

Then I got in prenatal vitamins, raspberry leaf, extra vitamin F and omega 3 with Evening Primrose. I got my a BFP at 8dpo

Recommend the book Taking charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler. For those wanting to conceive and for those that don't actually. It's an incredible tome - a must read. Will help you identify what's up and how you can help yourself. Good luck xxx

EmRata95 · 28/09/2021 17:23

Are you double vaccinated?

Km12345 · 28/09/2021 17:40

Thank you all for your comments. Think I'm going to get some pre natal tablets and use the ovulation sticks and prepare hubby for dtd every 2 days 🤣🤣

@EmRata95 yes I am double vaccinated, and it did mess my cycle up when I had both jabs. Although my last one was June

I'm only 26 and pretty healthy so I'm hoping this all goes in my favour

HeyFloof · 28/09/2021 17:43

Take prenatal vitamins, use ovulation tests (I like the easy at home brand from amazon), track your basal body temperature, dtd every other day from about cd8 onwards. Use preseed / conceive plus gel. Download premom app and log everything.

Kindleswitchface · 28/09/2021 17:44

Blindingly obvious question, are you having enough sex? Make sure you have it 2/3 times a week every week regardless of where it is in your cycle.

Honey2 · 28/09/2021 18:37

Everything @HeyFloof said!

I second the easy@home opk Sticks, they are cheap and reliable. Also the only way to be sure when you’ve ovulated is to chart your temp and spot the temp rise you get post ovulation. DTD every other day is good advice but might be hard to keep up with over several months?! (Haha I’m 41 though so probably not as issue at 26!! 🙈)

Susannahmoody · 28/09/2021 18:38

How's your diet?

Km12345 · 28/09/2021 19:03

@Susannahmoody I eat a pretty well balanced diet ,and try to keep fit as much as I can, I do lots of walking and home workouts

@Kindleswitchface I think weee doing it enough!! Around time of ovulation last month we were dtd every day (3 days before ovulation) although that's just going by the dates I assumed which I think are a bit out so I'm hoping the ovulation tests will help me out a bit!

Susannahmoody · 28/09/2021 19:18

When I was ttc I cut out all processed food and alcohol and caffeine. Your body is a temple and all that. Bit boring but give your body the best chance of conception.

The ovulation sticks are a good idea as it'll tell you exactly when you are fertile.
