Heyy,

Just wanted to have an open chat about what people think about getting the vaccine when pregnant?

Im currently 20 weeks and havent had it but my midwife is pushing it a lot.

Has anyone had it whilst pregnant? How were you?

thanks xx

Only 5+1 weeks but following as keen to see the answers x

Had my 1st dose at 32 weeks (no side effects apart from a sore arm for 2 days)
I was adamant I wasn't going to get it until after birth and suddenly I changed my mind.
I'd rather be safe than sorry. There are sooo many sad cases around .. I wouldn't risk it. Plus it gives the baby some protection as well

RavenclawsRoar · 15/09/2021 16:06

Yep, third trimester here. Had both jabs during pregnancy - no side effects at all. Personally I'm relieved having read about the increased risk of covid to pregnant women and the increase in complications for the baby (including stillbirth). It was a no brainer for me.

Rach0710 · 15/09/2021 16:18

I was very nervous about getting it during pregnancy but finally did it at about 30 weeks I’m 36 weeks now and had no side affects apart from a sore arm! 2nd jab is due around time lil man is here so we shall see which comes first. So glad I did get it :)

Amz6219 · 15/09/2021 16:22

I'm 35 weeks now, had it at 20 and 28 weeks and really glad I did.

Pfizer, no issues other than a sore arm after both doses (whooping cough was the same but more sore and for longer!)

I got a bit overly complacent after having it really but seeing the breakthrough cases I have gone back to more cautious. The risks of COVID in 3rd trimester far outweigh any vaccine side effects for me.

WoMandalorian · 15/09/2021 16:22

Had mine at 20 and 29 weeks. All fine. You're classed as vulnerable in your 3rd trimester due to the lungs being compressed and your lowered immune system.
98% of pregnant women hospitalised with Covid are unvaccinated, and stillbirths and premature births double in those unvaccinated who catch Covid.

Almost 30 weeks here, had both jabs (at 14 and 23 weeks). No side effects beyond a sore arm on both occasions and baby looks to be growing away nicely without incident. For me, the known risks of Covid during pregnancy to both me and the baby massively outweighed any lingering concerns I had regarding the vaccine.

Aquamarine1029 · 15/09/2021 16:28

Getting covid whilst heavily pregnant can be very, very serious. My SIL nearly died from it, and her son had to be taken at 34 weeks.

Get vaccinated.

OHthatbanana · 15/09/2021 16:29

Had Pfizer at 14 weeks and 22 weeks with absolutely no side effects.

There is NOTHING scary about a vaccine, it's the same as getting the flu jab while pregnant. 100% get jabbed! The chances of any side effects are so so so small, and also the same as with any vaccine, but covid cases are rising and getting that, especially in the 3rd trimester, can and has been deadly to mothers and babies. It's just a vaccine containing a weakened form of the virus so that your immune system is better equipped to recognize the real thing. I feel so much better knowing I am as protected as I can be for both me and lo.

Garman · 15/09/2021 16:30

Had it at 17 and 21 weeks, 33 weeks pregnant now. I have two young dc so I was not comfortable taking the risk of ending up on a ventilator/dead if I caught it in the third tri, or having a very early baby with all the possible risks that go with that, due to maternal illness/distress. I'm being closely monitored due to a (completely separate) placenta issue anyway, scans have shown baby is growing perfectly, measuring a week ahead, if that's the type of reassurance you'd like to hear too.

ButFirstTea · 15/09/2021 16:36

Had my first one the weekend we conceived, and my second dose at 13 weeks. Had a really sore arm both times, and a headache and tiredness for 1-2 days the first time, but no other negatives. Have had 4 scans so far and everything looks exactly as it should.

With cases rising I'm feeling much more wary about Covid again and trying to do whatever I can to protect the baby as much as is possible.

Dogsandbabies · 15/09/2021 16:38

I had it while pregnant. I had both doses and then went on to have a perfect baby 6 weeks ago.

In addition to that, my 2 year old caught Covid at nursery a couple of weeks after I came home from hospital. None of us, both fully vaccinated, or the newborn caught it from him but my eldest DD 9 did (although she was asymptomatic). And as you can imagine we could not distance from a toddler at all so I feel very grateful I had it and gave my baby some immunity.

Wiltshire90 · 15/09/2021 16:39

Had both vaccines, no issues. Below link (sorry I've just copied and pasted- got no clue how to do it properly!) shows 100,000 women have been vaccinated in the US with no concerns identified.

8dpwoah · 15/09/2021 16:42

Had both of mine in my second trimester. Sore arm both times and maybe a little tired after the first.

The midwives are (finally) pushing the national guidance because the number of pregnant women in ITU facing real and tragic possibilities has risen, and the number of women who've given birth having had the vaccine with no ill effects is also steadily rising.

I would be absolutely shitting myself at 36 weeks now if I wasn't vaccinated, I'm worried enough about DO testing positive with a mild case (also double vaccinated) and me having to labour alone.

stormelf · 15/09/2021 16:44

I'm 25 weeks. I had vaccine at 13 weeks and 21 weeks. Only had a sore arm after first dose and second dose was a sore arm and feeling a little hungover the next day. I'm glad I've had it as I'm due in december and my husband is a key worker

Perpop · 15/09/2021 16:44

Got it at 32 & 38 weeks, relieved I did for same reasons as other! Little side effects, just a sore arm and a little anxiety!

Hunkydory99 · 15/09/2021 16:48

Yes, had mine at 20 & 28 weeks. I had moderna. Some well documented side effects but would rather have the protection than 24 hours feeling a little unwell. My whooping cough vaccine was worse for side effects!

NigellasMicrowave · 15/09/2021 16:51

Had my second jab around the time of implantation (before I knew I was pregnant, obviously!). I’m glad I did it - I felt a bit tired for a day, I suppose as if I was about to get a cold, but felt so much better almost exactly 24h after getting the jab. I was taking part in the Imperial study on the vaccination and the menstrual cycle and had to finish my participation early because I discovered I was pregnant less than a week after getting my jab. The lead researcher said lots of women were doing the same.

GummyBear91 · 15/09/2021 17:01

I had both my jabs by 35 weeks. So relieved to have had it but I wasn't sure initially. The evidence shows the risks of the vaccine massively outweigh catching covid.

Sore arm was my only side effects (whooping cough was worse). I'm currently 38w4d and baby is doing really well. I know I will be feeling much safer in hospital when she decides to arrive being vaccinated plus going into winter I feel I've also given us the best chance of having a smoother ride with a newborn if either of us were to catch it.

There's some evidence that baby also gets some level of immunity from the mother when she builds hers up. Winner!

OM82 · 15/09/2021 19:42

I had mine at 13 and 21 weeks pregnant. A few family members are medics one way or another and they all said best to get it. One (a GP) spent a while looking into the medical literature for me and said there's no evidence to not get it. I got the Pfizer, no reaction to the first but a horrible reaction to the second, I was in bed for two days and felt like I'd been hit by a bus, but I'm still glad I got it. My husband is a teacher so I feel at high risk of bringing it home.

Jonesy88 · 15/09/2021 20:03

Had the 1st Pfizer dose at 4 weeks unaware I was pregnant. Sore arm caused a sleepless night. Had my second at just over 12 weeks. Sore arm and was a bit snotty, although that could’ve been the start of my pregnancy congestion. Was really nervous about the 2nd dose but so so glad I’ve had it now.

YouMeandtheSpew · 15/09/2021 20:25

I’ve had my first jab at 20 weeks and will have the second at 28 weeks (not there yet). Only side effect was a sore arm for 24 hours like I’d been punched.

Obviously it’s a personal choice but I feel so relieved now I’ve had a jab, even though I’ve only had one!

Kittyswhiskers · 15/09/2021 20:29

Had my first prior to conceiving and my second at 13 wks. I was poorly for 48 hours after with both but I’m fairly sure I’ve already had covid which does tend to make side effects worse. I am also a vaccinator for the trust (nurse) I would urge any pregnant woman to get it. I look at unvaccinated women and wonder if they’re mad to be honest, rightly or wrongly! This is a life threatening virus and there’s a vaccine which is safe and can protect you. Seems like a no brainier to me.

JackJack84 · 15/09/2021 20:30

Had my Pfizer vaccines at 14 & 22 weeks. No side effects other than a sore arm. It was a no brainer for me, the risks of covid in the third trimester far outweighed any concerns about being vaccinated.

BlueMoons90 · 15/09/2021 20:31

I'm 32 weeks and had it at 12 weeks then 24. No regrets, no issues. Go for it if you feel comfortable - wait if you don't!
