Just got pink discharge with flecks of red at 35 weeks at 2am?

I just woke up and went to the loo and when I wiped had a bit of pink and some flecks of red in the discharge… I have had quite a lot of discharge throughout the pregnancy and during the day earlier today I noticed a lot but I don’t think it was my waters or anything it just looked like the usual creamy stuff.

I called the delivery suite (through the triage number) and it took ages to get through because they said they are dealing with an emergency there right now.

When I got through the midwife said it’s nothing to worry about and to call back if it’s red or heavier. I said well it does have a bit of red in it. She was like that’s still fine, is baby moving? He has done a few movements since I woke up so I said yes. She was like just monitor it.

I’m worried about going into preterm labour and also about infections if my cervix is dilating. Please could anyone provide any reassurance as to what might be happening to me right now? This is my first baby so I’m scared and don’t think I’ll sleep now! Thanks

Discharge is now dark brown - called again and they said it’s probably just old blood from the ‘show’ but she was saying it can grow back and may not mean labour is imminent.

She said to just wait and see and if I get more red blood, pain, loss of movement or feel like my waters have broken to call back.

Spoke to a much nicer midwife this morning, the one last night must’ve been very busy and stressed. X

It could be from your mucus plug or you could be starting to dilate a little, which can cause bits of blood as the blood vessels start to break. Keep an eye out for your waters leaking, but all sounds positive with baby moving and no twinges. You can always go in to be monitored if you have any worries. Good luck!

Cafeaulait27 · 12/09/2021 22:37

Thanks @Blossomandbee ❤️

It seems to have stopped for now, nothing since the dark brown.

Just gotta keep an eye out for labour signs I guess.

His movements seem to get bigger and stronger every day now!

Does anyone know if I’ll know if baby has ‘dropped’?

He feels quite heavy in my pelvis today, but I have had that before when I was around 28-30 weeks and it went away again.

I’m not sure if I’m just being paranoid! X

Also had a bit of lightning crotch as he’s been punching my cervix today

OP posts:
MichelleScarn · 13/09/2021 17:47

Has your bump changed shape? Could the lightning crotch also be a sign of it dropping?

Cafeaulait27 · 13/09/2021 18:18

@MichelleScarn I’m not sure! I think it’s the same but so hard to tell… I’ve had a bit of lightning crotch before and heavy pelvis and it’s just gone away again.

Maybe I’m just reading into things!

Hi all just resurrecting this thread again…

It’s one week later and all evening last night I had period type pains, but baby still moving normally and discharge all normal. The baby felt lower in my pelvis and I felt a bit uncomfortable walking or standing all day.

Called triage again and they said they’re not concerned, just to keep an eye on it and let them know if it gets worse / I have heavy bleeding / waters break / babies movements reduce. I also let the midwife on the phone know that I think I lost my mucus plug a week ago.

I asked her what she thinks is happening and she said maybe Braxton Hicks.

This morning cramps have stopped and didn’t get worse overnight, but when I went to the loo the discharge was light pink again with a blob of bright red around the size of a grain of rice.

Does anyone know what’s going on… is my body just getting ready? I’m 36 weeks now. Xx

I had similar dd 2 was born at 35 weeks. Healthiest child ever aged 12 now she’s stunningly beautiful and taller than me with size 8 feet despite her slightly early arrival! Good luck!

Oh9autumn · 17/09/2021 06:55

With my 2nd she dropped around 28 weeks and her head was basically in my pelvis to the point when I walked around it felt like I had a bowling ball between my legs 🤣🤣🙈 this was also reflected in growth scans as her head was too low to take measurements.

She remained like that until she arrived at 37 weeks.

For me in both pregnancies spotting was normal, when i lost my plug it was pretty obvious.

You could just be in slow early labour, this can go on for weeks unfortunately.

If your waters had gone the discharge would be continuous for a period of time ( my first I lost my waters over a 12 hours period - nothing dramatic but needed to change a pad every 30mins or so)

Keep speaking to triage as ultimately any concerns it’s what they are there for

MichelleScarn · 17/09/2021 06:57

Hi @Cafeaulait27 sorry to hear its still on going! Is it still just twinges and cramps you feel?

Cafeaulait27 · 17/09/2021 07:16

Thank you for the reassurance guys ❤️

It’s so hard to know what’s going on the first time!

I can only describe it as period pains really - felt pretty constant but did get more intense at times as period pains would. And when I walked to the shop or stood up it just felt much heavier like I was definitely carrying something weighty! Definitely walking strangely too and really needed to wee, I must’ve looked very odd! Had another look in the mirror and think the bump has dropped although quite hard to tell as I haven’t taken many bump pics.

As I’m having a planned c section (maternal request) I’m just hoping I still get to have it. They did say I would provided I call them in good time and others with a medical need would go ahead of me which is fine… I’m just hoping I’ll know when it really is labour 🤞🤞🤞

How are you doing today?

Cafeaulait27 · 19/09/2021 21:14

Hi @CatOfTheLand thank you for checking in!

Well my discharge has gone back to white again (but getting a lot more) and no more cramping.

I wonder if it was/is a hormone surge and braxton hicks?

Will just have to wait and see… he’s still moving well in the and I’m not feeling as much pressure in my pelvis as I walk anymore, almost as though he’s gone back up a little bit.

I’m 37 weeks on Wednesday so fingers crossed he at least stays in until then! 🤞

I had my waters break at 37 weeks, 2 days after losing the mucus plug (which I didn’t know at the time). I was booked for a maternal request c-section at 39+2 and because of my labour progressing so quickly after my waters broke (about 2 hours) they reluctantly let me have a section but it was classed as an emergency due to how quickly my labour progressed. No issues except they did have to use forceps to get my boy out as he had started down the birth canal.

Just make sure you mention your maternal request section when you arrive at the hospital (when the time comes/if before the scheduled one of course). Good luck :)

Cafeaulait27 · 20/09/2021 10:35

@Luckyme30 thank you, I’m glad you still got your section. It must’ve been quite stressful for you. How was the experience and recovery if you don’t mind me asking?

I’m now starting to feel like baby isn’t going to come early, as all the signs seem to have gone. I’ll be 37 weeks next week which makes me feel better, but hoping he stays in until the scheduled day to try to avoid the anxiety around the c section and hopefully he’ll be more ‘fully cooked’ by then! Xx

It was terrifying to be quite honest more because I’m such a ‘planner’ and had my section date in my head, didn’t think my first could possibly come so early.. the section was absolutely fine, to be quite honest I preferred it as didn’t have time to stress/panic over anything as it was all very urgent!

Recovery was great, no issues and I even took my baby for a walk into town 5 days after.

Good luck for when it all happens, fingers crossed baby stays put for a little longer :)

Cafeaulait27 · 21/09/2021 18:05

@Luckyme30 wow that’s amazing about your recovery. Hope I have a straightforward one too! How are you feeling now and how’s everything going? Xx

The saga continues… a couple days ago I had very watery wet discharge in my pants and called triage, they said just monitor it… nothing further happened. Then just now I went to the loo and I’m having browny discharge and noticed a small amount of red blood in the toilet mixed with discharge.

I’m 38 weeks on Wednesday. Should I call triage again? I feel certain they will say ‘just monitor it’ but is this a situation where I should be insisting to be seen here?

I’m worried about infection risk and I did tell them that on the phone last time when I was worried my waters had gone, they just said it doesn’t sound like enough to have been my waters.

Baby is still moving well. Am I worrying over nothing or should I try to get seen?

Thanks x

You need to call back and go in. They can do a test to see if you’re leaking amniotic fluid. Sounds like you’ve been fobbed off this time

FelicityBob · 27/09/2021 06:38

Also any fresh PV bleed I’d get you in

custardbear · 27/09/2021 07:04

Have you seen your midwife? I'd speak to someone and try to see someone either midwife or hospital. I was always referred to hospital for investigations by my mw - good luck

Mummyme87 · 27/09/2021 07:14

Honestly, all sounds completely normal. Wet/mucous/brown/pink/streaks of blood is all fairly common at this stage of your pregnancy.
If you are leaking fluid and changing pads regularly, that is when you would be checked for waters breaking. Your cervix dilating and changing is normal, some women have an open cervix all pregnancy.
Do you have a midwife appt coming up?

Mummyme87 · 27/09/2021 07:14

Sorry, disclaimer, I’m a midwife

Cafeaulait27 · 27/09/2021 07:42

Thank you guys. I did have my last midwife appointment last week but the spotting etc had stopped for a while around then, I told her but said I’d had nothing recently and we both just carried on with the appointment. It’s so hard when it’s first baby to know when to be worried, especially after 2 previous mcs I really don’t want anything to go wrong at this late stage.

Thank you @Mummyme87 would you say I should just wait or call again? X
