Recommendations for Double Pushchair

Baby girl due in January, when she arrives my son will be 16 months. He is walking but not long distances at the moment.
I was wondering whether to keep the pushchair we have now and just buy my son a buggy board or do we buy a double pushchair.
People who has been in a similar situation, what have you done. If you have brought a double, what ones have you gone for?

Joie side by side double. After 3 others we tried, this one is an absolute dream!

Oh you will need a double with a 16 month old, trust me!

NellyDElephant · 04/09/2021 14:05

We loved the baby jogger city mini double - I had a 2.5yr age gap between my youngest two DC and it was invaluable, a real workhorse, loads of basket space and could recline both seats separately and folded in half to go in car easily. Don’t know if they make it anymore mind you…

I got a buggy board. I couldn’t face trying to get a double buggie around shops etc.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 04/09/2021 14:06

I always kept a sling in the basket so if my older one was having a moment, I’d put the baby in the sling and strap my older one into the pram.

I got a double buggy with an 18m age gap. I had the icandy. Never had any issues getting around anywhere.

Zm2019 · 04/09/2021 14:15

Thank you all. I will have a Google on these and have a look.

You'll definitely need a double with that age gap. I've got an ABC design zoom. Best purchase ever in my opinion!

Gingerish · 04/09/2021 14:24

I bought a secondhand Phil and Ted vibe for 50 quid. I did originally try the buggy board but my 2 year old won't stay on it.

I'm happy with it so far. Easy to push and you can fold it with both seats attached. I didn't want a side by side one so I pretty the inline style.

Downsides are it's pretty heavy and you need a massive boot

Gingerish · 04/09/2021 14:25

Prefer* not pretty

PumpkinKlNG · 04/09/2021 17:19

The pp saying they didn’t want a double buggy because it is difficult must mean the side by side ones, I had an I candy and it’s no more harder than a single!

City jogger mini double. Great!!

Tal12 · 04/09/2021 17:25

Would really recommend the Out and About little nipper! Great for waking off road too, and can buy a newborn insert so you do not need a second carrycot (assuming you have a carrycot on your original pram, if you needed to use the single pram).

Blossomandbee · 04/09/2021 17:27

Babyjogger City Mini or Out N About Nipper if you want a side by side.
Britax B Dual if you want a tandem.

Everyone told me to get a side by side, which I did, but I ended up changing to a tandem as I really struggled in doorways and shops with a side by side.

You'll definitely need a double buggy, buggy boards are great for short trips and if they're a bit older, but at 16 months or for anything longer you'll need an extra seat.

RussianSpy101 · 04/09/2021 17:29

@PumpkinKlNG I loved my icandy too. Had the Orange so when my eldest son got older, he sometimes used the inbuilt buggy board with a single seat.
It was a fab pram!

DappledThings · 04/09/2021 20:29

I had a side by side, the Mountain Buggy Duet and it went everywhere. Barely wider than a single so it went through all doorways and on buses easily. Loved it.

Caspianberg · 04/09/2021 20:38

I have a 16 month old.
I would def want a double if had another now. Although he is good at walking, often that means walking in circles, sitting down, back to look at a stone, down drain etc…
Whilst that’s all nice and fine if I have plenty of time to pass on a walk, it’s not helpful if you need to get anywhere

Sexnotgender · 04/09/2021 20:39

Mountain buggy duet. We’ve got one and it’s fantastic.

Me too, I am a foster carer to babies of varying ages and love my Duet.

Have an I candy peach that I made into a double, which I love, also have the joie aire twin that we took on holiday as I wasn't about to hand over an expense buggy to baggage handlers. Both are great and I was presently surprised by how good the joie was for the £120 it cost

rosesandsalvia · 04/09/2021 20:43

Mountain buggy duet is only 5cm wider than my single. Doesn't fold up small, but very easy to push. Some people manage with sling & a single but my toddler is very opinionated about the direction we should walk in, without mentioning the hours needed to poke fingers into every hole and run back and forth over a sloped bit. I need somewhere to strap him down so we can get places!

GLTM · 04/09/2021 20:48

I got a baby jogger city tour 2. It's narrow for going in the shops, but the bassinet is narrow to and my daughter was too big for it by 4 months, but she could lie on the seat. It has a 5 point harness which was fiddly. However it folds easily and is easy to put in the car now. I think Vista would be my preference until baby is 9 months and then what I have for 9 months plus.

I couldn't have managed with a buggy board, my 18 month old wouldn't stand on one long so a double buggy was a must for me.
