What did you find worked best for you? Did you have any concerns or were you warned by medical professionals not to use or to only use certain brands?

Lansinoh nipple cream works great as a lip balm

HangingChads · 20/08/2021 12:14

I used my usual lip balms and no one, medically qualified or otherwise, suggested that I should alter my lip balm habits.

squishee · 20/08/2021 12:17

Lansinoh is good and can do double duty for BFing.

torchh · 20/08/2021 12:17

I'm so confused.

HalloHello · 20/08/2021 12:19

Why would lip balm not be pregnancy safe? What do you think is in lipbalm????

I have used Nivea throughout

Megan2018 · 20/08/2021 12:20

You don’t need special lipbalm for pregnancy. Use whatever you were using before you did the test, it will make no difference whatsoever. You aren’t smearing it on the fetus.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 20/08/2021 12:20

They are all pregnancy friendly unless you are eating it.

TheRabbitStoleMyHat · 20/08/2021 12:43

What is a pregnancy unfriendly lip balm?

Caaarrrl · 20/08/2021 12:44

What makes you think that your usual lip balm is unsafe during pregnancy?

DuchessSilver · 20/08/2021 12:50

Where are you putting your lipbalm?

thingymaboob · 20/08/2021 12:56

Aren't they all pregnancy friendly?

Anoisagusaris · 20/08/2021 12:59

What??

fuxxake · 20/08/2021 12:59

😂

purplemunkey · 20/08/2021 13:00

Huh? I just used the little tubs of Vaseline as I always did. Are pregnancy safe lip balms a thing?

Howshouldibehave · 20/08/2021 13:01

Grin.

OP, do make sure you are using pregnancy-safe shampoo and conditioner as well. And washing up liquid.

Lumpwoody · 20/08/2021 13:02

I’ve never heard of lip balm being a concern when pregnant?

Amichelle84 · 20/08/2021 13:07

I always think posts like this must be a joke...

Mammyloveswine · 20/08/2021 13:13

Good grief...some of the posts!!!

Any lip balm is fine in pregnancy!!!

HeyMona · 20/08/2021 13:14

I usually think posts like this must be from someone pretty anxious about their pregnancy who may have had a struggle to get there.

I've seen articles about pregnancy safe skincare and nail polish which recommended specific brands so don't think it's such an out there question.

VegMam · 20/08/2021 13:16

Wow some pretty rude/unkind responses.

It’s true that some studies suggest that use of cosmetics in pregnancy can be linked to adverse outcomes (eg www.researchgate.net/publication/333462943_Maternal_cosmetics_use_during_pregnancy_and_risks_of_adverse_outcomes_a_prospective_cohort_study).

Therefore, some suggest that a number of ingredients in lip balms and other cosmetics are not recommended for use during pregnancy.

I use weleda lip balm and moisturiser which I believe are considered safe.

Greenbuttonsbluebuttons · 20/08/2021 13:18

Say what now?

I used any old lip balm and my children appear to be ok.

Miliao · 20/08/2021 13:23

I used lanisoh and my children turned out fine, although one has two heads and a tail, but I’m sure it’s unrelated.

catinthehat12 · 20/08/2021 15:12

@VegMam Don’t get me wrong, I am all for research providing us with information to keep us as safe as possible during pregnancy, but small changes like this often just make anxious moms-to-be even worse because something as tiny as lip balm can cause women to damage their baby.

That study excluded a lot of factors that are also important in assessing these adverse outcomes purely because they were not available (this included folic acid supplementation and nutritional intake).

catinthehat12 · 20/08/2021 15:14

“can supposedly cause damage to the baby” - above.

I see where you’re coming from but I don’t generally suffer from anxiety, so for me I think knowledge is power and I’d rather use a different lip balm if there’s any risk. It’s not a big deal to use a different lip balm so why not.

I also don’t see how it’s helpful some posters being rude to the OP. I see stuff on here all the time I think is silly but I just scroll past rather than belittling someone’s concerns.
