What did you find worked best for you? Did you have any concerns or were you warned by medical professionals not to use or to only use certain brands?

My friend swore by Dr paw paw for literally everything during all her pregnancies

Genuinely have not considered a pregnancy safe lip balm.

I use Berts Bees for what it’s worth.

Cannot fathom sometimes how, with all the other stuff you have to think about growing a baby for nine months that you have the mental energy or time consider if your lip balm is ‘safe’.

ButFirstTea · 20/08/2021 15:51

I think as long as you're avoiding anything with vitamin A/retinol most other skincare is largely thought of as safe to use during pregnancy. Obviously your skin may be more sensitive to some ingredients or fragrances so you might need to change because of those reasons. I use either Dr Lipps or Carmex, haven't changed since before I got pregnant.

I can. After years of failed IVF some women/couples will do anything to increase their chances by miniscule proportions or avoid anything that might represent the tiniest risk.
People advise you all kinds of crap things to avoid from deodorants to shampoos to food products to activities. And you do it because you think what if that is the key. You know logically it won't be but if you're throwing all your money and energy at it already you think one more stick to beat yourself with, why not.
You're advised to avoid scented toiletries at embryo transfer and drink pomegranate juice and eat beetroot for womb lining, and eat pineapple core and avoid other things.
So I can totally understand that this can continue into pregnancy if the treatment actually works and manifest as anxiety around small things. I'm not saying it's rational, just that I can see how it can happen. And if that's the kind of headspace the OP might be occupying then it's an anxious place to be.

She's pregnant and worried so maybe people could consider that in their replies.
Who knows she might be laughing to herself now for asking, she might be reassured but she was worried enough to ask in the first place.

@SmidgenofaPigeon just in case of any doubt, I'm not having a go at you but giving an insight into how some people might end up asking those kind of questions.

I do like Burts Bees too!

SmidgenofaPigeon · 20/08/2021 17:39

@HeyMona thanks for that explanation, it’s a very good one Flowers

I don’t think this is necessarily a bad thing to ask about.

Not that lip balms aren’t safe to use in pregnancy however, I would avoid anything containing soft paraffin I.e Vaseline whilst in hospital in labour or having c-section purely in case you ended up needing oxygen. Any paraffin containing products should not be used close to a high concentration oxygen supply.

Otherwise, choose something lovely and luxurious for your lips :)

The most useful post on the thread! I've got a little Carmex in my bag for the gas and air so I might be rethinking that one...
