Hey ladies.
Just wondering which pads you guys suggest to get for after birth that are thick and really large.
I can’t think of myself in a nappy though🙈
So any large good thick pads that you recommend pls let me know
Thanks in advance
Xx

Lil lets for me too! They had wings and were comfy and wide!

Maternity pads are cotton, I believe, whereas modern sanitary towels contain plastic and gel.and will.irritate stitches etc, plus you'll be wearing them.for weeks not days.
@pocketfullofstorms I suspect period pants would be similar as they are man-made fibres.
Perhaps OK for a special occasion further down the line.

Boots maternity pads. I preferred the slim ones, not because I didn’t bleed a lot (I did!) but because they didn’t rub on my stitches. That’s another reason to avoid a normal sanitary pad, they rub in just the place you feel sore.

Sanitary towels have that kind of mesh layer on the top which can irritate you and catch on your stitches if you have them. Also they’re often scented which can mask an infection.

Also to the person who suggested period pants, they’re great for later on but in the immediate week or so after you need to keep an eye on your loss really and you can’t do that with period pants.

I just used Tesco own brand at first but when at home much preferred to wear a dress/nighty and sit on a puppy pad/child’s bed wetting disposable sheet. I had stiches and I felt the pads didn’t allow air to help healing. If you have a visitor round I just put a blanket over my bottom half ha ha. It was only family we saw at that stage anyway!

Incontinence pads are even better than maternity pads.

FTEngineerM · 19/08/2021 09:43

We both went home in nappies.
To be fair they were great, it was heavy AF.

I used thick tesco ones until the packet ran out and then moved to normal sanitary towels as I found the thick ones uncomfortable.

Didn't have stitches with my second but they didn't irritate me with my first baby which I did have stitches with and in my experience you can definitely smell what's coming out over the scent so I couldn't imagine the scent would mask anything (sorry that's gross)

Boots maternity pads teamed with big ol' black full brief pants from Primark.

20viona · 19/08/2021 09:53

Boots maternity pads best by far.

For the first days skip pads altogether- get the full on incontinence pants.

My first night on the wards after giving birth I watched the other ladies hobble back and forth with the pads. My mega pants were just amazing. No worries about anything slipping as they're full front to back protection.

I will tell any pregnant person who will listen to put their pride aside and just go for the Depends.

Also really great for the few days once you're back home and have visitors etc. No worries about anything then either. And so much easier to sleep in.

Another vote for Lil Lets. They do big thick ones with wings which were my fave after DD, I didn't leak with them once and my blood loss was pretty heavy. They were soft and comfy. They also do a thinner one for a bit later down the line once the blood loss starts to calm down so I've bought them to try for this time too after I don't need the huge ones anymore.

sherrystrull · 19/08/2021 10:41

I used the biggest Always with wings I could find. Much better than maternity pads I found. I had a c section both times though so didn't have a worry about stitches.

Babydust13 · 19/08/2021 10:42

I just used boots own maternity pads they were fine and not expensive

NewMumma1819 · 19/08/2021 10:47

PrincessesRUs · 19/08/2021 16:18
