Hey ladies.
Just wondering which pads you guys suggest to get for after birth that are thick and really large.
I can’t think of myself in a nappy though🙈
So any large good thick pads that you recommend pls let me know
Thanks in advance
Xx

Abena Premium Maternity Pads,... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B074VCQYJ9?ref=ppxpoppmobappshare

I got these from Amazon and thought they looked huge before I gave birth but they were a godsend! Found them perfect for the job and very very comfy.

I found Lil Lets maternity pads great as they have wings, unlike cheaper supermarketown brand ones I also had.

DaisyWaldron · 18/08/2021 22:15

My midwife did actually recommend nappies for the first couple of days.

Tidypidy · 18/08/2021 22:15

When my last dc was run I bought a pack of 10 pads from wilko for £1. They were a bit mattress like but so comfy. I made a big mistake one time of trying an always regular pad but it irritated my sore bits.

Tidypidy · 18/08/2021 22:16

Run!!!! Born obvs!

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 18/08/2021 22:17

Boots maternity pads. Really thick, really soft and really long. DO NOT use always night time or any other scented/full of chemical night time pads. I made that mistake after having stitches for a 2nd degree tear. Didn't think about the fact the chemicals are specifically designed to wick away moisture and keep everything dry. Dried out stitches on sore skin are not fun!

Shouldbedoing · 18/08/2021 22:17

Proper maternity pads.
Modern sanitary pads have plastic and will irritate any stitches

SaveWaterDrinkGin · 18/08/2021 22:18

Boots maternity pads. They’re not just absorbent but nice and soft- you want a bit of cushioning after! Buy loads and change every time you go to the loo.

Passthecake30 · 18/08/2021 22:18

I used a maternity pad on top of always with wings, as the maternity pads I picked up didn’t have wings. I don’t think I used maternity pads for too long tbh. The cheapest value pads are soft too.

santabetterwashhishands · 18/08/2021 22:19

I just used normal always with wings 🤷‍♀️
They were fine and there was no way I was wearing maternity pads they looked like housebricks

Boots

3rd-ing Boots here! Buy WAY more than you think you'll need. Never ever ever use Always - hideous plasticy rank things that ripped me to shreds post birth!!

Iggly · 18/08/2021 22:20

I loved tena ladies. Recommended by my midwife. They were SO comfy.

Tibtab · 18/08/2021 22:20

I used the Tena pull ups for the first week or so - the black fancy ones. Didn’t like the pads, they kept moving around. The Tena ones absorbed urine leaks too and you don’t need those weird net pants.
They aren’t glam but I am definitely using them for my second.

Boots

SpamIAm · 18/08/2021 22:22

Think I had a combination of Tesco, Asda and boots. All perfectly good. Tesco also do thinner ones if you don't want the really thick ones - I moved to these once things had slowed down.

BattenburgBerry · 18/08/2021 22:22

Another vote here for the Lil Lets maternity pads. Extra long, wide at the back, with wings and not massively thick so you don’t feel like you’ve got a mattress wedged in your knickers! You can buy them on Amazon or large sainsbury stores.
Also, I had the Always discreet boutique incontinence pants, in black, for the first 3 or 4 days. So comfy and being able to sit on our new sofa with confidence was brilliant.

bubblebath62636 · 18/08/2021 22:24

Lil Lets maternity pads here too.

The only ones with wings and nice and padded too. I had horrific bleeding (including a heamorrage 5 weeks postpartum) and they never leaked!

SillyBry · 18/08/2021 22:25

The boots mattresses work really well for the first few days. As people have said maternity pads are much more comfy than sanitary pads in the early days, especially if you have stitches!

Keroppi · 18/08/2021 22:25

I used Tesco own brand and Aldi's too, I think. Seemed similar and were thick and comfy. I tried using regular night time pads I had in but similar to a PP, they made my stitches itch.
The cushioning was def needed, combined with sitting on a donut pillow was blessed relief!

FinallyGotAnIPhone · 18/08/2021 22:27

I think any old maternity pads are fine as long as you change them regularly.

YouWereGr8InLittleMenstruators · 18/08/2021 22:36

I used a folded flannel with a couple of drops of lavender essential oil. It was easy to chuck in the washing machine and dried quickly and gentle on the skin (and healing stitches). I found I wasn't able to wear pads as they felt sweaty and clammy.

whattodo2019 · 18/08/2021 22:47

Big thick ones!

pocketfullofstorms · 18/08/2021 22:49

Has anyone used heavy flow period pants instead of pads?

KitKatKit · 18/08/2021 22:55

Boots Maternity pads were recommended to me by several people + Tena black Silhouette pants I think they're called. I put a pad inside the pants at its worst and it worked great, not a single leak.
