I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/topics/nausea-vomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

12 weeks today and the sickness has hit me like a tonne of bricks again 😭😭

LucindaE · 18/08/2021 10:45

abbs1 It isn't selfish to want another baby - and as you know, I regret not going for it again myself. I think a sibling is a priceless gift for your LO, though it's only one he'll appreciate later. Gentle pats on offer. Let's hope that this is the week ten hormonal surge. With luck metoclopramide will help a lot.

Sorry, I missed various messages. For some reason, I only got abbs1's post.
Cmacs2020 Welcome. Sorry things are bad. There's lots of support o here. As you are a veteran you don't need my 'do you find flat, full sugar coke, ice lollies and the juice of tinned fruit help' and 'have you got kesostix, as while not the best test of dehydration hospitals do take their measurements seriously' and 'an anti acid makes a big differnce'. I am not sure how long Ondansetron takes to work; I don't think it's very long. A good idea about the drip if you're not better soon. Did you have to take a laxative with the Ondsetron last time? Ten weeks is often the worst week for most people. There seems to be a hormonal surge around then.
abbs1 How awkward about those allergies.
Ttcbn2 Sorry to hear things have got bad at twelve weeks. Of course, a lot of sufferers even from ordinary pregnancy sickness suffer past week 14, for all this view some medics take that 12 weeks is the time things get better, but it's still disappointing to get worse around that time. I hope you soon get an imprvovement.
Waves to thingymaboob and catconfusion.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

The Dr has prescribed me some ondansatron for a week to see how I get on instead of metoclopromide. He said he reluctant to do a higher dose without seeing my hg hospital notes from previous pregnancy. The hospital said they wont let GP have them and said if no improvement in a week I'd have to go to the hospital HG unit to be properly assessed before more medication can be prescribed.

Catconfusion · 18/08/2021 11:22

@abbs1 such a shame your doctor isn’t more confident with prescribing for you. Also that the communication with the hospital isn’t better. It’s madness that there’s not a report with your general notes that he can access. Surely with your history an assessment from the hospital now would be helpful in preventing it progressing. I’m really hoping this works for you. Xx

I think he was reluctant because im already on xonvea. The midwife I spoke to said it is protocol to only give it a week to begin with as each pregnancy your hormones act differently and they need to make sure that I don't react etc. And to be properly assessed not just giving medication over the phone....
I'm glad he even said yes as he could of said no go to the HG unit. I'm hoping I dont end up in hospital but if I do I'm get everything detailed and ask for a copy to give to him so I can access medication easier.

Hi everyone, I’m around 8 weeks and have been struggling. Just started my third anti-emetic today (metoclopromide) so hopefully this is the one. I’ve also started taking omeprezole which has massively helped the acid. The constant spit it awful, any tips for that?

Not really been out of bed in the last week or so and am living on toast and crackers. It’s so miserable, how do you all manage?
I have a 3 year old that I’m barely seeing and that really hurts.

thingymaboob · 18/08/2021 15:14

@abbs1 has the ondansetron helped at all? How are you feeling today?

@rk47 sorry to hear you're suffering. I have a 3 year old who I've barely seen for months (I'm 14 weeks now). It's awfully sad but they're more resilient than you think. Did you have Hyperemesis before? Are you planning on taking metoclopramide on its own or alongside the other drugs you've been given? You can take a combination.

abbs1 · 18/08/2021 15:17

@thingymeboob Im waiting for my husband to finish work to go get the ondansatron as I haven't got the energy to stand at the pharmacy while they get it ready and theres always a queue. Thankfully its only a 5min drive so i can wait in the car. I really hope it helps as ive spent all today either lying on the settee or in bed.

rk47 · 18/08/2021 15:21

Hi @thingymaboob I didn’t have it last time so it’s taken me by surprise. Did you?
I’m so sorry you’ve not seen your LO much either, it’s heartbreaking.
I’m taking the metoclopramide with the omeprezole (so glad they prescribed the omeprezole in the end, the GP wasn’t keen on prescribing it but then had a change of heart and phoned back). A little worried about the side effects of the metoclopromide but guess I’ll just have to wait and see.

thingymaboob · 18/08/2021 15:26

@abbs1 you sound in a bad way. Really hope you get some relief from ondansetron. I'd be tempted to go straight for 8mg

I hope it does. I feel miserable. Thankfully my little boy took a long nap with me again and is happy watching peter rabbit, bing and cocomelon. The Dr said he wont prescribe the 8mg straight away and said to try 4mg 3 times a day alongside the xonvea and will speak to me next week and see how im doing.

thingymaboob · 18/08/2021 16:06

@abbs1 let's hope you get some relief!

@rk47 hope metoclopramide helps

I'm very nauseous today. Oh god, please go away!

Catconfusion · 18/08/2021 18:04

Ah sorry @abbs1 I forgot you’re in the xonvea as well. It sounds like at least you’re moving forwards with treatment so hopefully you’ll feel better soon. Xx

thingymaboob · 18/08/2021 19:24

@rk47, I did have HG with my last pregnancy. We started trying after 3.5 years and a lot of persuasion from my DH. My DD would also love a sibling. I wanted another baby but the thought of pregnancy was too much. We caught first month which I wasn't entirely prepared for!

What are the other drugs you have been taking but are ineffective, can I ask?

abbs1 · 18/08/2021 19:55

@Catconfusion @thingymeboob I hope it works on the lower dose. I went to the pharmacy to collect it thankfully no queue he said its on order and ring tomorrow to see if its in. I nearly burst into tears as now its probably gonna be another 24 hours to wait. Sounds so silly but after the say Ive had I wanted it so badly. I really hope its there tomorrow.

Catconfusion · 18/08/2021 20:28

@abbs1 I’m so sorry it wasn’t there. How frustrating for you! I hope you cope ok overnight until it comes. Xx

thingymaboob · 18/08/2021 21:05

Oh my god @abbs1 I went through the same! Had to wait 24 hours to get mine too! I cried too. Biggest virtual hugs.

Catconfusion · 18/08/2021 21:16

Oh no @thingymaboob that’s horrible. I hope you’re ok tonight. Xx

rk47 · 19/08/2021 07:21

@abbs1 I’m sorry you’re having to wait longer for your drugs, I would have cried too!

@thingymaboob I think you’re so brave doing it again!
I had cyclizine which didn’t stay down and prochlorperazine which I thought was working a bit but then stopped. Once I stopped taking it I realised how generally out of it and dreadful I felt on it. So far nothing is really helping enough for me to eat & drink more or get out of bed….although I’m not totally sure what I’m aiming for.

thingymaboob · 19/08/2021 11:18

I've been thinking about you @abbs1 how have you been overnight?

@rk47 I've been taking cyclizine and prochlorperazine together for 7 weeks. I was out of it for a while but I'm definitely more tolerant now. It took two weeks of lying in bed feeling out of it before started to feel some improvement.

abbs1 · 19/08/2021 11:24

@thingymeboob Ive been ok thanks for checking in hun. Just counting down the time till I can call the pharmacy to see if my medication is in to collect. They said to call at 1300 so hopefully its there.
Just been laying on the settee for the morning and now in bed while my little boy naps.
You doing ok?

thingymaboob · 19/08/2021 11:47

Hope it's there @abbs1

I'm ok. I'm still nauseous and vomiting. Mainly vomiting in the evening. I'm going to try work next week. Half days at first.

rk47 · 19/08/2021 11:47

@thingymaboob Glad you’re more tolerant to the side effects and you’ve found something that works. I’m only allowed the metoclopromide for 5 days and the GP said after that to retry cyclizine. Is that the same combination you used last time?

thingymaboob · 19/08/2021 11:52

I take cyclizine, ondansetron and prochlorperazine as my combination. I also had metoclopramide on top of that in hospital. No one single drug works for me. It's the combination of drugs that I find effective.
