I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/topics/nausea-vomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

@FateHasRedesignedMost I agree! Stress does seem to worsen symptoms. With my first I was trying so hard to not take too many meds, and wanted to feel like I wasn’t letting work down. But in the end I was signed off for 4 months and my lax approach to medication meant I kept relapsing. I resigned while on Mat leave, and was very relieved to not have to deal with work during my second pregnancy (we had our DDs close together so the older one wouldn’t remember me being so sick).

I’m ok here. 6 days vomit free, I have my 12wk scan today, and only 3wks of work left before the summer break. We also have covid in our community for the first time in the pandemic, so staying close to home. My biggest issue is stomach cramps. I’m sure they’re trapped gas related, but it is quite painful. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @FateHasRedesignedMost yes it is SPD and for me very classic symphysis pain. I had it badly in both previous pregnancies, was in a wheelchair by the end with DS1 (after months on crutches) and with DS2 I was in a wheelchair for the last three months or so. Realistically it was bound to happen again though I'm a bit annoyed it hasn't held off for longer. I've already started some osteopathy. I had some with DS1 and honestly I don't think it really made any difference (nothing did either time) but it is nice to have and at least I feel I am doing something. I believe classic symphysis probs are harder to treat than related back / sacroiliac issues. I'm also hoping that here in France they might be a bit more generous with the analgesia in pregnancy!

Thanks for the list of drinks to try @LucindaE 🙂 I asked my gp about the acid in my stomach - it feels like it's burning all the time. She said there's nothing better than gaviscon, which obviously makes me vom but I'm persisting.

Thanks for your perspective @FateHasRedesignedMost. I must say your experience sounds utterly dreadful, but I'm glad to read your lifestyle is better suited now and it's not been as bad this time 😊 I have to admit there are many aspects which make this easier than it otherwise would be (home, job, family - all good really) so perhaps I should focus on that and count my blessings 💕

LucindaE · 21/11/2021 20:47

Holsey I had a doctor who refused to prescribe anything but Gaviscon, myself, though that was long ago. Many on here say that Omprazole is much more effective. I hope that list of drinks proves useful.
FateHasRedesignedMost I've changed the date. Oh dear about spd for you and kalidasa. kalidasa That's really tiresome Osteopathy didn't help with it before.
A year's wait for physio on the NHS? Well, that's really useful for pregnancy, I don't think...
Meleebacca I hope all went well.

Hi everyone, I’ve been a bit quiet of late has have been struggling a fair bit and spend most days in a dark room with no light!!

Looking for some advice…the past couple of days sickness has been particularly bad and it has completely ripped my throat to shreds. Feel like I’m swallowing razor blades and almost feel like if my swallowing gets any worse I’ll end up in a&e…any tips??? I’ve tried gargling with warm salt water, yoghurt/milk/ice cream and lozenges but nothing is helping xxx

@FateHasRedesignedMost
Hope you are well.
How did you get on with your booster.
Have you had any scan and hope you are baby are doing well.
I am 16 weeks pregnant and would like feedback from ladies who had booster.

LindSan · 01/02/2022 19:54

Hi ladies, I’ll be 40 weeks Saturday and now I have covid on top of the hyperemesis. I’m so scared. I just can’t believe the timing of this. My hubby got it at work and gave it to me. His was nothing other than a mild dry cough. My symptoms are fairly mild in the sense I don’t have a fever but I have this horrible head cold and fatigue that is nothing like I’ve even experienced. My whole back aches which could be a pregnancy thing but I also have SPD and I can barely walk. I could go into labor any second and im praying I come late. Any ladies ever in the same boat? I have a doctors appointment on Thursday so I will call tomorrow. Im scared I will have to birth all alone as they may not allow him
In the room. I can’t imagine wearing a mask when both my nostrils are plugged up. Im trying not to stress and just rest but I’m this is just a nightmare.
