No heartbeat at 7 weeks

Has this happened to anyone? No heartbeat at 7 weeks? Got my scan 2 days ago, measuring right on 7 weeks. Had HCG blood test a week prior and was at 73,432 and just went for my HCG blood test results today from yesterday as I had to get more HCG blood work done and it was 127,039! My doctor ensured me sometimes you can’t pick up a heartbeat until 8 weeks and they average between (6-8 weeks) and sometimes they can just be slow. I’m so scared, my HCG bloods are good, I have no bleeding or cramping.. everything seems good except no heartbeat was detected, they used a transvaginal ultrasound too because my uterus is tilted, in saying this 2 weeks prior to this scan I had another scan and they only seen a yolk sac and told me to come back 2 weeks after and now seen an embryo bit no heartbeat!!

Has this happened with anyone else ?

Hand hold Flowers Its all a bit stressful isnt it?

I kept getting very faint positives that were in no way appearing to double (let alone a fabled "dye stealer") some were lighter! and was convinced i had blighted ovvum or something was terribly wrong.
The whole thing was so stressful.

I had to wait a week and then went for a reassurance scan and saw the babys heartbeat at 7+1 but i am guessing they are all different. The doctor wouldn't lie to you the range is 6-8 weeks.

Its super hard but all you can do is wait

twinningatlife · 14/08/2021 09:41

I don't want to give false hope and so Unfortunately it was never good news for me. With hcg numbers so high and the baby measuring 7 weeks you would definitely expect to pick a heartbeat up by now? I'm surprised your doctor said that about 8 weeks as that is really really inaccurate unless your dates were totally off. In my experience heartbeats have always been detectable from 6 weeks. I really really hope you get better news xx

KarinaWhyte · 14/08/2021 09:46

My doctor seemed pretty positive that some babies are slow and couldn’t show until 8 weeks, obviously majority of babies show at 6 weeks but sometimes even 6 weeks can be super early. Yes I know with HCG that high I should see a heartbeat but I could be at the higher end of the HCG scale, I do know they are increasing significantly which is a good sign aswell. I’ve been researching online like crazy, woman like me with similar dates no heartbeat one week later miracle heartbeat, obviously they’ve been some negative stories along with it aswell! I’m just so scared x

I know my doctor wouldn’t give me some false hope either. She said having no heartbeat at 7 weeks isn’t uncommon, even the ultrasound tech said that I should go back to the doctors for more blood tests, no one mentioned a miscarriage what so ever. Obviously if there’s no heartbeat this scan, then yes it was a missed miscarriage. I’m trying to hold on to a little bit of hope!

Doctors don’t say things that aren’t true to give false hope, it’s just not how they operate. Hang in there for another week. Flowers

KarinaWhyte · 14/08/2021 09:57

Thank you! I will. My doctor is extremely good aswell! I do trust her, plus the doctor at the ultrasound clinic looked at the scan and I think he was the one that wanted me to go back for another scan! Especially 2 weeks prior to that scan all they seen was a gestational sac with a yolk sac no fetal pole, this time there was an embryo... just hoping the heart was just too small to detect or it was because of my tilted uretus. I’m definitely earlier than what I thought that’s for sure. I thought I would be 8 weeks at the previous scan!

I've been in a similar situation the last few weeks too, my hcg was doubling, saw just the sac, then the week after the sac and yolk sac, then week after that saw sac, yolk sac and embryo, did they give you measurements of embryo ?

19annie86 · 14/08/2021 11:00

As I had a previous miscarriage and am now pregnant again, my doctor has told me to go in at 8 weeks and get a scan to see if there is a heartbeat, told me no point coming in before 8 weeks as there might not be one before then, so maybe 7 weeks is still early

KarinaWhyte · 14/08/2021 11:20

Nope no measurements of Embryo, did your embryo have a heartbeat? How many weeks are you? @enodmai

@19annie86 yeah maybe hey! In Australia they offer super early pregnancy scans, I know some counties don’t unless you’ve had previous miscarriages or bleeding.

@KarinaWhyte I was 7 weeks and 1 day and could see the heartbeat but only by internal scan and it was really really hard to see, did they give you any measurements at all ? At my 6 week apt they gave me measurements of the sac and yolk sac and what they thought may be the beginning of a fetal pole which was 1mm and then did the same measurements again at the 7 weeks.

Is the sac getting bigger ? It's good to see high numbers and that each week is progressing, if you had the scan maybe 24 hours later there may well be a heartbeat, things change so fast

KarinaWhyte · 14/08/2021 11:34

They didn’t even give me any measurements at all!! @enodmai

Tbh the ultrasound lady didn’t even tell me how many weeks I am, she only wrote it on the screen! It was my doctor that told me that I was 7 weeks pregnant measuring right on 7 weeks and told me I had to go back in a week! I had to get an internal too because of my tilted uretus! I think the sac is getting bigger, the ultrasound tech did say everything look good except she didn’t pick up any cardiac activity!

@KarinaWhyte that's really odd they didn't do measurements, did they not give you a report ? Was it a private clinic or hospital ?

Perhaps you're earlier than you think and not quite 7 weeks and that you'll see more on your next scan

KarinaWhyte · 14/08/2021 11:46

@enodmai I went private, the report got sent to my doctor. I’m sure if anything came up out of the ordinary and the pregnancy wasn’t going to be viable, my doctor would of told me!

Sorry but tbh it doesn't look good. Your numbers haven't doubled and at 8 weeks you would absolutely see a heart beat. I think stay hopeful but be realistic

enodmai · 14/08/2021 13:03

@KarinaWhyte are you in the uk ?

Fingers crossed things progress and it is just a bit early

Mamamamasaurus · 14/08/2021 13:16

My no heartbeat at 7 weeks is currently sucking his thumb and watching Netflix. He was just a late starter!

Wishing you all the best OP Flowers

MyMabel · 14/08/2021 13:22

I had a scan at about 7+4 last time and they could only just about make out a heartbeat.. I couldn’t see anything though I just agreed 😂

toystoyseverywhere · 14/08/2021 13:27

I honestly do not mean to be that person but the HCG numbers are supposed to double every 48 hours. I know your numbers have gone up from the previous bloods done last week but it should be every 48 hours give or take.

I know how horrible this time is and how much the time seems to drag and go so slow. I have had this numerous times and it is horrendous waiting.

Did you have repeat bloods taken again? That should give more of an indication also. As you should be having bloods regularly not just once a week.

I'm surprised the doctor didn't tell you the measurements as they usually always say while being scanned and it would definitely have been included on the report sent to your doctor.

Wishing you the very best and I really hope it is good news for you. I know so much easier said than done but try anything as a distraction! Be kind to yourself and I also know how impossible it seems but stay off google! So many bad stories that cause panic etc. Thinking of you

pinkmoon18 · 14/08/2021 13:33

My 7 weeker with no HB is currently being an emotional sole today.
I seen it at 8 weeks, it is possible op.
It's a long hard wait but hang in thereThanks

Katefoster · 14/08/2021 13:35

A lot of places don't scan before 8 weeks because it can be really hard to see a heartbeat xx

whosaidtha · 14/08/2021 13:38

I would expect to see a hb on a transvaginal scan. It can be later if trans abdominal which may be where the mixed info is coming from.

KarinaWhyte · 14/08/2021 18:27

@toadstool32 & @toystoyseverywhere

HCG numbers are supposed to double at the beginning when they get to a certain point (over 6000) it takes more to double and past a certain point it can take more than 5 days to double. This is what the doctor and ultrasound tech told me plus a simple google research. My numbers are on the higher end of the scale and soon they’ll start to level out and won’t double at all. When you get to around the 8-10 week mark they reach a peak and then get lower. This is why I ain’t too concerned about the doubling numbers. I can’t expect to have a number that’s 73,000 on a Monday and then the Wednesday it goes up to 146,000. I had more HCG blood test done and awaiting on that test to come back to see if my numbers have increased significantly 2 days after my 127,000 result. My doctor ensured me it would not double but more than increase significantly. My HCG results last week went from 56,000 to 73,000 in 2 days and my doctor was over the moon; I was confused as to why it didn’t double and that’s why she explained to me that it doesn’t when it’s that high.

It's not that it's hard to see the heartbeat- because trans vaginally it's not it's because it can be harder to determine viability either way before that date especially if there is uncertainty as to ovulation and likely conception date

Rtmhwales · 14/08/2021 18:54

Do you know the crown rump length measurement? I had no heartbeat detected at 7+3 and was convinced it would be fine, HCG was growing etc. Unfortunately the CRL measurement was more than 6mm which studies supported miscarriage when coupled with lack of heartbeat, and mine was well above 7. That said I had three ultrasounds in 2 days that confirmed length and lack of heartbeat. With a tilted uterus you might not be able to confirm those and it's better to just wait. I know several people who didn't get heart beats until 8 weeks.

Rtmhwales · 14/08/2021 18:56

Sorry just saw you have no measurements at all. So I guess just wait and hope, I'll keep you in my thoughts and hope for the best for you too.
