Make me feel better about small bump @ 28 weeks

I've had loads of comments about how small my bump is at 28 weeks and how I don't even look pregnant 💔 as an anxious FTM this doesn't help me. Can anyone make me feel better!?

I assume all medical appointments have said baby is measuring fine? If so then there's nothing to worry about, different people carry babies differently, and many people are assholes who think judging and commenting on pregnant women's bodies is fair game. Ignore them.

Bluey18 · 11/07/2021 16:53

I'm barely showing at nearly 23 weeks with 2nd baby, I doubt people would know I'm pregnant if I didn't tell them... I have a retroverted uterus so baby is just held in more. There's such a wide range of normal, as long as they are happy with your scans you have absolutely nothing to worry about lovely! xx. Hopefully it will limit the stretch marks, that's my hope anyway Grin

SuperSleepyBaby · 11/07/2021 16:54

Yes, i got these comments too - and my first two babies were about 9 pounds when born and no issues with their health or the pregnancy.

Sometimes people just say these things as they think it is a nice thing to say - or depending on your build maybe you carry it well?

brightsideornoside · 11/07/2021 17:00

She's consistently measuring a couple of days behind, but nothing major. Keep getting told 'You can't be pregnant, you just look fatter' which is obviously not the best thing to hear! Thank you tho, glad it's not just me x

People usually mean it as a compliment tbh, that's what I got all the way through my first pregnancy. My DD was just under 7lbs and I put the bare minimum of weight on partly due to HG. This time with no.2 I am conversely absolutely massive and people are shocked when I tell them I'm not due til October Blush!! I have put a lot more weight on this time though as my HG was much better managed so I think it's mostly me and my abs that never recovered properly from the last baby letting it will hang out rather than a massive baby but could be all three, who knows Grin

MadameOvary81 · 11/07/2021 17:16

My bump was tiny the whole pregnancy. I put a picture up on facebook at 40 weeks and got a lot of comments. Up until then I hadn't even thought about my size...I had nothing to compare it to. Turns out my son was an absolute munter at almost 9lbs but he was hiding up my back. Even the midwife was shocked.

TTCAbroad · 11/07/2021 17:34

I’m 23 weeks and have just started to look a tiny bit thicker around the mid-section. Still wearing most of my normal jeans and all of my regular tops. One of those things where you just have to trust that the midwives and doctors know what they are talking about and would let you know if they have any concerns.
Hearing other people’s stories is comforting though!

penguin7 · 11/07/2021 17:56

I'm 29 weeks tomorrow with my first baby and I get this comment a lot! Had my midwife appointment on Friday though and she said I'm measuring fine!x

onanadventure · 11/07/2021 18:01

I'm due next week and was asked today if I was 7m pregnant.
BUMP is measuring fine according to midwife.

Baby size and bump size don't always correlate.
Also.
People LOVE to comment, so unless midwife or doc is worried, don't be.

BillyShears · 11/07/2021 18:02

Both times I hardly looked pregnant. Could easily have worn a big coat and no one would have known. I’m tall and the baby seemed to sort of hide in my middle. Both kids fine and born at over 7lb.

8dpwoah · 11/07/2021 18:07

Can't help you other than to sympathise as I get the same- DD was measuring fine til right near the end so didn't worry...I've a bigger bump with this one (feels it) but still getting told I look small 🤦

All you can do is smile, make reference to your strong abs holding everything together, and only take any notice of a medical measure.

I think people think they're being kind tbh but when you're a bit paranoid about growing another small baby it doesn't help, so I understand!

Bookaholic73 · 11/07/2021 18:10

The day before I gave birth, an old school friend bumped into me and was laughing about how she’d heard I was pregnant.

“Obviously Not’ she said, looking me up and down 😂

I was TINY, and still had a healthy baby 12 hours later.

Inmypjsagain · 11/07/2021 18:10

Ah OP I feel you! I’m nearly 36 weeks and constantly told how small my bump is. To be fair, it is, on the growth chart for fundal height I’m well below 0centile so have been referred for growth scans. Baby is around 35th centile and fluids are good, tummy just small for some reason 🤷🏼‍♀️

My thighs and butt are definitely fatter though!

RoseAndGeranium · 11/07/2021 18:11

People just feel they need to say something, I think. I got a lot of comments about how small it was till about that point, and then by the end I was inundated with ‘are you sure there’s only one in there?’ and ‘haven’t you had that baby yet?’ and ‘what are you even carrying, a yeti?’. I guess maybe I suddenly popped but it didn’t seem that way to me. Sounds like your little person is growing just fine, so try not to fret.

Bookaholic73 · 11/07/2021 18:13

I also think that some people seem to think that saying how small you are is complimentary.
This is usually other women, as they equate pregnancy weight gain with being ‘overweight’ instead of a healthy thing for baby.

TheVanguardSix · 11/07/2021 18:18

Oh my goodness, with my first, I didn't even show until I was 34 weeks!! I remember clearly being asked 'when are you due' for the first time, 7 months in and kind of going into a meltdown of joy on the poor stranger asking me because I was so flipping happy that I was FINALLY showing. I had nothing but a tiny bump for ages! And then in the last month, the bump really took over and I looked like someone inflated me. Measurements were on the small side though.
Two weeks before the birth, I was told DS wouldn't exceed 5lbs. He was 8 1/2 pounds at birth.

Are you tall, OP? We tall folk tend to show later, though particularly with the first.

Ickiness · 11/07/2021 18:23

I was tiny both times - just don’t carry any water
Only put 12 pounds on each time and didn’t even need maternity clothes
My babies were 8lb 5 and 7lb 14 so they do weren’t small babies!
If your scans are fine, ignore people, they just like to comment on pregnant women for some reason?!

Ickiness · 11/07/2021 18:23

I’m also only 5ft so you’d think a bump would be massive on me but no! 🤣

mummyh2016 · 11/07/2021 18:24

I had a small bump and when I went into labour at 38 weeks I thought I was going to have the tiniest baby ever. She was a very respectable 6lb 8oz. Try not to worry.

MrsCremuel · 11/07/2021 18:30

I was like this with my first. Back when I had stomach muscles. Second pregnancy and it’s another story. I’m 6months and look full term Shock.

If the scans are fine ignore. I generally find people spout all kinds of crap when you’re pregnant. They mostly mean well but I find it grating.

Willwebebuyingnumber11 · 11/07/2021 18:31

I’ve always measured small with all 3 of mine.
What did your growth scan say(

Rosieposy89 · 11/07/2021 18:31

I have the opposite problem, I'm 29+6 and worry mine is too big!

Mintjulia · 11/07/2021 18:35

I had to tell my team I was preggers at 30 weeks because I didn't show either.
Then at 34 weeks it all popped forward.
On the bright side, I have no stretch marks and was back in my jeans on day 10.pp.
DS was 8lb exactly. Not small.

So be grateful for your neat tummy. Good luck x

Ozziewozzie · 11/07/2021 18:40

It’s likely to do with your body length possibly. My first baby bump looked smaller. Tummy tends to be firmer. I have a long body too. Also, at 28 weeks, your baby still has loads of weight to put on. It’s grown in length mostly. You will find you suddenly pop out a lot more as the baby can no longer just fit inside your pelvis. I do wish people would not pass comments on women either being pregnant ( when they are not) or size of bump etc. My smallest bump was my biggest baby 9lb 10. My largest bump was my smallest baby 7lb 12 (last baby of 5....my tummy was barely holding it all together 🤣)

Willwebebuyingnumber11 · 11/07/2021 18:48

This was me, 34 weeks with baby number 3. I was probably the biggest with my 3rd baby.
