I’m now 29 weeks pregnant decided last week I had no choice but to have the vaccine.
I have 3 kids and over the holidays we are going to stay in our bubble. I’m hoping they will let me have my vaccine a bit earlier. Or I won’t be “covered” until the baby is here.

All restrictions are lifting and it’s estimated that there will be 100000 cases a day by September. I’m due the 22nd September.
I really don’t want to catch Covid just as I’m due.
I’m tempted to keep the kids of until the baby is born (I don’t want to do this at alllll!!!!). This is worse case scenario. But I don’t see how I can stay safe. There is lots of cases here at the moment let alone with no masks etc.
Any one else due September how are you feeling?
Am I being over anxious? Im asthmatic too. Im petrified of catching it at 37 weeks tbh, and not being able to give birth or look after my baby.
I have 3 kids, 2 get a taxi as their school is far (Sen), they have had lots of cases, Sen school so children can’t keep a distance or safe. Youngest at a mainstream.

@cocomelonz I have had my first! Talking about my second! :) which would be due about 37 weeks but
Would like it earlier as half the country will have it then.

I initially wasn’t planning on getting vaccinated until after the end of my pregnancy but now feel I have no choice, if cases are going to reach 50k-100k a day and people won’t be distancing or wearing masks. I’ve got a toddler in nursery so can’t see how I’ll stay safe otherwise.

Tinydancer321 · 07/07/2021 16:13

@cocomelonz no I had my first at 28 weeks, so hoping for 37 or before …. Really I want 35 weeks my second a
So I’m protected when the kids go back to school. With this restrictions lifted I’m assuming 1 in 5 will have Covid by then 🤦🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

Tinydancer321 · 07/07/2021 16:14

Ironically my kids Sen school has closed down as have to many Covid cases and the kids are high risk!!!
So maybe they won’t even be able to open in September, but the government really do care about children’s education. 😬

@Tinydancer321 When I first booked my jabs, they gave me a 12 week gap too. But once you've had the first jab, you can go in and cancel/modify the date of the 2nd jab. :) That's how I was able to move it forward so now have an 8-week gap. For now I'm still going to try for a walk-in and see if I can get the second jab done sooner, simply because if I stick to the 8 week gap, it's going to be a bit tough fitting in the whooping cough jab that I need to get as well.

@choccrumpet @dementedpixie I've read headlines about a longer gap between jabs resulting in higher antibodies too. However, the only study I was able to track down with this for now was a Uni of Birmingham study that involved just 175 indivudlas all aged between 80-99yo, and that study hasn't been peer-reviewed yet. That's why at this point I'm personally more inclined to just stick to CDC guidance since the findings about a longer gap were based on a very small sample size that doesn't even remotely involve people in our age group. Hopefully there'll be more studies forthcoming involving a younger demo!

@Aozora13 So sorry to hear of the long covid experience! I've got a friendly (early 30s, fit) who struggled with long covid too and it sounded rather unpleasant!

eandz13 · 07/07/2021 18:27

@Chelyanne

I'm 34wk, not vaccinated and not worried. The world has gone mad imo. We have lived alongside thousands of viruses all our lives and now are terrified of 1.
I love your reply. What a breath of fresh air.
Scirocco · 07/07/2021 18:41

@Chelyanne have you not seen the clinical findings on how dangerous COVID can be in pregnancy? As well as increased risks of respiratory failure, sepsis, organ failure... the coagulopathies can cause blood clots in the placenta and there are increased risks of miscarriage, stillbirth and preterm labour.

I work in healthcare. I've seen firsthand what this virus has done to people. Not 'just' people with 'underlying health conditions', but to people who would have considered themselves fit and healthy before. And even if someone is fortunate enough to have mild symptoms, there's still the risk of 'long COVID', for which there's very little that can be done yet. I have witnessed this virus kill a lot, and I mean a lot, of people and leave many more with long-term complications.

The world will need to adapt to function alongside COVID, but that doesn't mean we should dismiss it. This virus is highly transmissible and can be very dangerous, particularly in unvaccinated populations. Stay safe, everyone!

Tinydancer321 · 07/07/2021 18:45

@Scirocco
Totally agree.
I feel we are rushing. I personally think spring next year we should be reducing more restrictions.
So everyone has had time for second and third vaccines. Also would give time for other countries to catch up.
Also CEV children should have a vaccine made and tested

@scirocco Done my research, made my decision. My mind will not be changed by you or anyone else throwing "facts" at me.
I don't judge those choosing to have the vaccine and they shouldn't judge my choice not to have it.

Aozora13 · 07/07/2021 18:51

@pileapetals thanks, it was shit, would not recommend! Not sure I’ll ever fully recover tbh - was previously v fit and active, now I can go about my daily business but even after 10 months (when I fell pregnant) the idea of going running or even doing a vaguely active yoga class was completely out of the question. And now am a fat knackered pregnant lump, but that’s another story! Hope your friend is feeling better now.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 07/07/2021 19:06

Now you’ve had your first vaccine, ring 119 and book a second, it’ll probably be close to 12 weeks (you can always cancel it later). Did you book through your GP? I’ve been sent my invite for my second jab today at 6 weeks after the first. I could have got an appointment for tonight but I’m away for work. All the other appointments are for 8 weeks after my jab. However also google walk in clinics near you, mine are allowing people from 8 weeks. However, as they’re rattling through now, I wouldn’t be surprised if there are cancellations earlier. So keep checking availability and if you’re able to attend an appointment last minute, you might be able to jump the queue.

Scirocco · 07/07/2021 19:06

@eandz13 there's no need to be rude just because we disagree about something.

@Chelyanne, I'm not judging your or anyone else's decision. If you've made an informed decision, that's entirely your right. All I was doing was highlighting the clinical concerns. We can disagree without falling out about it.

Chelyanne · 07/07/2021 19:13

@scirocco you assumed I had not made an informed decision.
It's insulting when people do this simply because someone doesn't follow the masses.

Scirocco · 07/07/2021 19:22

Also @eandz13 a quick search of research databases and publications will easily give you resources which highlight the concerns I mentioned if you're interested. Eg, search PubMed for sars cov-2 pregnancy and you'll find a lot of case studies and systematic reviews.

@Chelyanne, actually, you're right there, I apologise for that. My own experiences meant that when I saw your response and how unconcerned you seemed about COVID, my automatic assumption was that you couldn't have seen and read the things I have. I didn't mean to be insulting and I hope you can accept that apology. As with everyone, I hope we can all stay safe regardless of our views on vaccination.

Chelyanne · 07/07/2021 19:30

@scirocco Smile of course

choccrumpet · 07/07/2021 19:32

@pileapetals I think we might have been talking on another thread and agree there doesn't seem to be much info about the benefits of the longer gap hence why I've been trying to get my second sooner without any success! I wish some of the walk in centres allowed for earlier vaccinations ☹️

pileapetals · 07/07/2021 20:02

@choccrumpet I've just PMed you with a link that seems to have good info about walk-ins.

Just sharing it here for anyone else looking to get their second jab earlier (many of the centres mentioned by other users are accepting anyone who's had at least 21 days since their first covid jab): www.reddit.com/r/GetJabbed/

Hope this helps x

eandz13 · 07/07/2021 20:04

@Scirocco genuinely sorry for my abrupt reply, you're obviously lovely and polite. I'm just really used to seeing pushy "stupid and selfish if you don't get the vaccine" comments on here I just assumed the implication in your comment. I still disagree, but sorry for being a twat about it!

Sunshine8888 · 07/07/2021 20:33

I’m only 9 weeks pregnant and unvaccinated. I’m getting so worried about the rising cases and I have a toddler in nursery so can’t isolate. I daren’t risk having the vaccine before the second trimester but I also really don’t want covid. Feeling so scared and vulnerable

Ritamarie85 · 07/07/2021 20:41

Pfizer and Moderns were tested at 21 and 28 day intervals. The UK made up their own rule probably based on their supply. Every other country stuck to the guidelines. I think it’s really disappointing for pregnant ladies wishing to be fully vaccinated before their babies arrive that they are being told at least 8. Even from walk in centres. Thankfully I was vaccinated in The US.

Scirocco · 07/07/2021 20:48

@eandz13 no worries, we can all get along while having different opinions. There's enough stress in this world already. Smile

Greenrubber · 07/07/2021 21:05

I'm 30 weeks pregnant so due mid September
I've not had the vaccine and decided not to get it whilst pregnant or breastfeeding
I'm not the most social person but my DD will be back at nursery for the last few weeks of my pregnancy
I don't actually feel that worried about it obviously I don't want to get it whilst pregnant but I will be continuing to have food delivered instead of going shopping etc I only meet for play dates outside and I think the nursery is keeping the kids out as much as possible if there are any covid cases when she goes back I will take her out as I don't want to take covid into the hospital when I give birth

cocomelonz · 08/07/2021 07:28

Ah sorry I missread! Same as me then I've also got my second booked for 37 weeks. They did say when I had my first that I could probably bring it forward but my second appointment is exactly 8 weeks later which I've heard is the optimal time apart to have them so I think I'd rather wait longer and have better protection. It's so difficult isn't it!
