Do I need anything else? 🤔

So I'm due to have my first baby in August and I'm trying to make sure that we have everything we will need before he's born. I haven't bought much yet (still waiting for decision on sure start maternity grant application) but have been given loads of stuff from baby banks and will be getting some of the things here as gifts from parents (things I've asked for and have been told they'll get/have ordered).

The things I have so far are:
Baby clothes for the first 6 months as well as a few boxes of clothes in the next few sizes but not completed like the first couple of sizes.
Baby swimwear and swim nappies (planning to go to baby swimming classes)
About 8 packets of baby wipes (will probably buy another big box of these as I know I'll get through loads)
About 6 packs of size 1 nappies and a few nappies in size 0 and size 2 just in case
Loads of baby bath toiletries
Nappy rash cream
Talc
4 packets of cotton wool pads and 2 packs of cotton wool balls
10 baby towels
8 baby cloths and 4 baby sponges
Changing table and mat
Changing mat and nappy caddy for downstairs
About 10 muslin cloths (do I need more??)
About 20 bibs
10+ Dummies
Baby socks and soft shoes (although I'm not sure about using the shoes)
Breast pump
Nipple cream
Nipple shields
Nipple pads
Spritz for bitz
Perineal ice packs
Disposable underwear
Pads for after birth (but I'm thinking of getting some of those adult nappies too for the first week or so 🤔)
Baby sleeping bags in 0-6 months and a couple in 6-18 months
Loads of celluar blankets
Too many toys
Books
Car seat
Moses basket, mattress and sheets
Compact cot (for when he grows out of moses basket) and mattress - still need sheets
Cot bed, mattress and sheets
Pram with carrycot and pushchair for when he's sitting
Bouncer
Baby swing
Baby bath and bath seats
I've even got a few weaning things and a jumperoo for later on but still don't feel like I have everything 🤷‍♀️

Well done that is one big list you are very prepared, only things I think u will need now or when babys in its own room is baby monitor and grow egg for room temp. Can't remember if U had baby bath in your list. I also found nappy bins and nappy sacks very helpful

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 24/06/2021 15:50

What on earth are you going to do with ten baby towels Confused

Amammai · 24/06/2021 15:51

I’m pregnant with my second, due any day and I’m not sure I have as much as all that! For the first month or so, baby will literally need nappies, milk (breast or formula), somewhere safe to sleep (but they are most likely to want to be on you) and clothes (vests and babygros)

Parker231 · 24/06/2021 15:54

Wow - you do have a lot. I never used a baby bath - either used the sink or took them into the shower with us. Didn’t have a changing table - used a changing mat in whichever room we were in. Mine stayed in babygros until they were about nine months so didn’t bother with clothes in the small sizes.

Smile agree. I had one! I didn't - and still don't - bath DS every day. Sounds like you are planning to breastfeed. You might want a steriliser for the pump bits, shields and dummies - I just had a Milton cold water one but lots of different types out there.
JesusWeptonaBike · 24/06/2021 15:55

Get rid of the talc
You need do not need to bathe the baby in water
I used way more muslins but my DC did have terrible reflux
10 towels is excessive
How do you want to sterilise the Brest pump etc?

Very organised

FrancesFlute · 24/06/2021 15:56

Oh and thermometer (the in ear ones are best!)

JesusWeptonaBike · 24/06/2021 15:57

You only need to bathe the baby in water at first That was supposed to say
LittleRa · 24/06/2021 15:58

Don’t use talc

popcorndiva · 24/06/2021 15:58

yep you don't need 10 baby towels, max 3 if you are not washing all the time as they can wee when getting out of the bath.

Has everything already been bought? as you may not need a breast pump if you give it a go and realise it doesn't work for you and baby, which means you would then need to get bottles

You don't have a steriliser on there, even if breast feeding is useful in case you want to make sure something is clean once dropped. Best advice is don't buy too much in advance as all babies are different and want different things.

plixy · 24/06/2021 15:59

You mentioned breast pump but no bottles. If you express with a pump you will need something to feed it in.
And then you will need to sterilise the bottles and pump.

Dogoodfeelgood · 24/06/2021 16:04

I wouldn’t buy so many things in advanced sizes as you might find you prefer different things than you though you would, better to start small in newborn sizes and then you’ll learn more about your preferences and can expand from there.

Girlmama3 · 24/06/2021 16:06

I used to put a towel on the change mat to warm it up and to catch any leaks. The towels would be handy for that!

Bin the talc!

That’s a great stash and will certainly keep you going! Don’t forget nice food and snacks for you! You’ll also get gifts I’d imagine x

OneGlamMama · 24/06/2021 16:11

Baby nail clippers and files are a must.

Tiredmum100 · 24/06/2021 16:14

You were far more organised than I was! I would add a ear thermometer and bath/room temp flower thing. I found a light projector really good, I had a Disney one and both dc loved watching it whilst lying in their cot. Also yes to a sterilzer I had a steam one but if I ever needed one again I'd probably just get a cold water one. Good luck OP, hope you enjoy your little one!

Rosesareyellow · 24/06/2021 16:15

The shops don’t all shut down after you give birth. I think it’s a great list but I wouldn’t put pressure on yourself to get all these things ready before LO arrives. When you decide to go swimming get some swim nappies. When they start growing out of the sleeping bag get a new one, you don’t need all the sizes now.
But however many pads for after giving birth you have in mind - double it.

DoucheCanoe · 24/06/2021 16:16

That's a lot of stuff for a little person!

For the first 6-8 weeks all they need is:
Somewhere to sleep - mattress, 3 sheets, 3 blankets.
Something to eat - boobs, breast pads, lansinoh or 6x bottles and formula/steriliser.
Something to wear - nappies, 8-10 vests, 8-10 babygrows, 2 cardigans and a hat.
Something to travel in - I-size or group 0+ car seat and a sling or lie flat pushchair, raincover.
A change mat is also useful.

Everything else is just an extra, as they grow you can buy toys etc.

HollyGarland · 24/06/2021 16:17

You sound very prepared!

I would get a few more muslins. My baby has reflux and I can get through 10 in a day.

Also just to let you know talc isn’t recommended for babies - the fine particles are dangerous for them to inhale. So I would ditch the talc in favour of a nice moisturiser Smile

PurBal · 24/06/2021 16:18

I'm 38 weeks and don't have half the stuff you mentioned. Sounds like you're pretty sorted. Best advice I got is "there is nothing you can't get from a 24 hour supermarket or next day delivery".

daisyducky · 24/06/2021 16:18

You might not need as many muslins. I hardly needed any. Most of mine were unused. Every baby is different! Can always get after they arrive

Rosesareyellow · 24/06/2021 16:18

You also don’t need 10+ dummies. They’re easy to clean. Although they do get lost easily. We’ve never had more than 4 though.

Rosesareyellow · 24/06/2021 16:20

And one bottle of baby bath should last a while if you want to use any at all to start off.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 24/06/2021 16:21

You must have a lot of room in your house to put all these things- lucky you!

Little babies don’t need toys and books. And you’ll probably get given loads of stuff as presents when they’re born so leave some space free! And you won’t need swimming stuff for ages.

Is there anything more eco friendly you could use instead of loads of baby wipes?

SunshineCake · 24/06/2021 16:27

Sponge for baby to lie on rather than plastic seat.
