2nd Pfizer after 3 weeks?

Sheisfee · 24/06/2021 13:51

I’ve just read there are some walk in vaccination opening tomorrow but I only had my Pfizer 3 weeks ago at 29 weeks pregnant. I’ll check with the 119 covid info but I’m seeing if there are any other pregnant people that have had theirs that close together? Xx

I tried my local walk in clinic this morning and they wouldn't let me get the second dose, 3 weeks after the first. I'm pretty gutted and have no choice but to wait until I get an appointment

Sheisfee · 30/06/2021 09:23

@choccrumpet that’s so disappointing! Maybe try an other walk in at some point if you have the energy! X

@Sheisfee I'm not going to bother, I don't want to be disappointed again. I'll ring my gp surgery and try get an earlier appointment with them or otherwise hope that I get mine at 8 weeks instead of 12. You got very lucky with the person who vaccinated you! Unless you're outside of the UK

EssentialHummus · 30/06/2021 12:58

Pregnant and had the second dose walk-in after 5 weeks.

choccrumpet · 30/06/2021 13:38

@EssentialHummus are you in the UK? That's so good! Did they ask you many questions, any issues with you getting it sooner than the guidelines?

EssentialHummus · 30/06/2021 13:44

@choccrumpet yes, in London. They didn't ask me anything unusual but I did need to get jabbed by a Dr or nurse rather than a random vaccinator because of the pregnancy. I ended up with a consultant neurologist who was doing a volunteer shift on his day off!

Sheisfee · 30/06/2021 14:00

@choccrumpet I’m Devon, UK. Think the people who didn’t vaccinate you just don’t have the info yet x

choccrumpet · 30/06/2021 16:26

@EssentialHummus that's super cool!

@Sheisfee sadly I think so. I find it so frustrating. The centre was empty and isn't busy generally. Why make it walk in but restrict who can get a vaccine. Embarrassingly I started tearing up after being told no by several people, wasn't expecting to. Just made me really sad that they were refusing. We've got friends getting ill after the first vaccine and it's scary. I want to be protected and be comfortable going out doing basic chores. I understand they have their own approach but there should be more exceptions, especially if there's vaccines left over at the end of the day.

Sheisfee · 30/06/2021 16:56

@choccrumpet oh hun, that’s tough. How far along are you? If it’s impacting your mental health then maybe print some stuff off to take with you to wave in peoples faces. It’s scary but I’m sure you’re doing everything you can to keep yourself safe xxxx

choccrumpet · 30/06/2021 17:02

@Sheisfee thanks im just having a bad day 😅 im fine normally. Although it is scarier seeing closer friends get ill even with the vaccine. I'll just wait until I get my appointment, don't think I'll get far if I keep asking. It just frustrates me when I think about it. So I'm going to stop thinking about it 🤣

choccrumpet · 30/06/2021 17:03

Oh and I'm 6+1, not very far but might be a high risk pregnancy due to the shape of my uterus so would rather be safe than sorry.

Loki01 · 30/06/2021 19:54

Yeah, had mine exactly 3 weeks apart:)

ursuslemonade · 01/07/2021 11:12

Same here, had my first 5 weeks ago and I was turned away. I'm furious!
Current government guildline my arse. While 10 miles north of me any other fucker can get it after 3-4 weeks.
Now I won't get my 2nd dose before I travel.

choccrumpet · 01/07/2021 11:26

@ursuslemonade I feel your pain 💔 I was hoping to travel to see my family who I haven't seen in 1 and a half years but am not comfortable to until I get double vaccinated. And I have friends who got appointments between 5-7 weeks after too.. it's frustrating as it's clearly not a consistent approach

ursuslemonade · 01/07/2021 16:49

1 and a half years? Christ that sounds hard. I haven't seen mine since Aug.
Btw I'm glad for all of you who are double vaccinated, I'm just having a pity party Blush

Sheisfee · 01/07/2021 17:07

@ursuslemonade I get it, it must suck. I honestly don’t understand why it’s so difficult for you folks to get your second?! The drs and nurses that I saw seemed to want me to get it earlier because I’m pregnant. I’ve also heard that there are pregnancy walk in clinics in some places? I really hope you manage to get it earlier or at least to feel calm until you do. I was a wreck until I got my second :(

OP posts:
choccrumpet · 01/07/2021 17:16

@ursuslemonade it's pretty crap but I'm sure I'm not the only one and sounds like you're in a similar position too, there's nothing we can do to change the situation unfortunately! I also agree that it's great other people are getting vaccinated earlier. I wish there was a more consistent approach.

@Sheisfee that sounds interesting. I'll keep an eye out for that near me

Dahlia5 · 03/07/2021 13:37

Just to give people some hope if you were declined your second dose early. I've been trying various ways (via GP and 119) and was told no, but was really desperate to get vaccinated before my due date so kept trying.
Today I managed to get my second dose after 4 weeks from the first. I went into the walk in centre. They were asking everyone about the date of their first dose and if it was less than 8 weeks apart they were turning them away. However the very nice lady has checked with the doc on site and they said they are happy to give it to me today as I'm 35 weeks pregnant so more vulnerable to covid.
They said government have changed guidance last week and now they normally have to turn people away but also were saying if at the end of the shift they have some vaccines left they can go ahead.
My recommendation is try different sites (be prepared to be turned away though) as it also depends on the person you're checking in with.

choccrumpet · 03/07/2021 15:49

Ladies I just came across this article so this could explain why some of us are getting the vaccine earlier and others aren't

Dahlia5 · 03/07/2021 16:16

@choccrumpet thanks for sharing. I didn't get access to the full artocle, but I had been really interested in the data on vaccine efficacy Vs the intervals length between two doses. I did find the studies on that, but from what I can see the research was done on people over 80 and AZ vaccine. Other countries are still vaccinating Pfizer 3 weeks apart so hoping this still gives solid protection.

Verbena87 · 03/07/2021 16:33

@choccrumpet hope you don’t mind me asking but have you managed to have a chat with a doctor/midwife about vaccinating in first trimester?

I’m due my second Pfizer next Thursday and testing to see if a frozen embryo transfer has worked on Tuesday, so I’d be around 4-5 weeks if it has and am trying to decide what to do. My inclination is to go ahead (like you I’m keen to be more protected especially as I work in a school) but the lack of 1st tri data is daunting me a bit. I’ve a phone appointment with the gp Wednesday to discuss as well but be interested in anything that helped you decide.

And obviously please ignore if you’d rather not discuss!

choccrumpet · 03/07/2021 18:18

@Verbena87 don't mind at all! I only spoke to my GP after I got the first dose (which was when I was 3 weeks pregnant) and she had no issues with it and didn't advise me not to get my next one at a specific time. Tbh I trust my GP but sometimes find they have their own preferences so I listen to their advise but do my own research anyways to make my decision.

I couldn't find any info that advised not getting the vaccine during the first trimester, that's not to say that data or info doesn't exist. I focused on the positives of the vaccine and knew how dangerous covid can be especially in pregnant women so that helped me decide to get it in the end. At the start of the year I was actually against getting it during ttc / pregnancy but as more info and evidence became available I changed my mind.

From what I know the worst side effects from the vaccine in pregnancy is a high fever. I had a slightly raised temp for a few hours maybe but not a fever and I took paracetamol which helped a lot.

Hopefully by Tuesday you will have a better idea where you stand but make sure whatever you decide feels right for you.

If you haven't watched this video already I'd recommend it, super informative about vaccinating during ttc, pregnancy & breastfeeding

choccrumpet · 03/07/2021 18:20

@Dahlia5 that's very interesting! I haven't looked up the data on this and only had people tell me it's better to wait for a longer interval so interesting that you say the information gathered is quite limited and only been studied with one type of vaccine

Girlmama3 · 03/07/2021 20:14

I was told no by a walk in today. 6 weeks since my first jab. My gp also said no.

I’m south west, it’s so frustrating.

ursuslemonade · 04/07/2021 09:30

I can second other posters, I've tried yesterday another neighbouring walk-in and they didn't bat an eye that my 1st was nearly 5 weeks ago. God I was pathetically grateful.
