Just a little group for the ladies with GD to talk, ask all the questions and be there for each other

@CherLW where did you get the ice cream from? Xx

CherLW · 31/07/2021 22:01

@Scotti84 I don’t have any but I’ve just put it on my list. I’ve just gone for the ice cream and see how that goes.

@AdventuresAwait I got mine in Tesco… it was £4.50 tho!! I thought I’d treat myself as I’m not having too many treats now days! I got the praline one 😍

@AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken wow! Can you ask them to cover them up until you leave? 🤣 Its a good job we all have willpower!

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 01/08/2021 11:58

I sat with my back to them and miserably drank my camomile tea

AdventuresAwait · 01/08/2021 12:05

Oh @AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken! We went into a cafe for a drink yesterday and was so close to ordering a cake but was just about strong enough to turn my back on them!

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 01/08/2021 12:46

I’m trying to think of it that I won’t have much baby weight to lose because I’m actually starting to lose weight on my legs and arms etc.
So, in October, I can have the odd cake and treat without stressing about it 😂😂
I’m just doing my post baby diet two months early!

AdventuresAwait · 01/08/2021 12:59

Yes @AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken! I've been thinking similar as I think I'd had put a lot more weight on without the GD and think I may have lost some weight too. Silver linings... 😊

Bubbles1st · 01/08/2021 16:06

@AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken @AdventuresAwait

Definitely the upside of GD is the weight loss!!

I will definitely be much less than before I was pregnant once he is born.

Missed lunch so currently having the snack of dreams 🙈

@Bubbles1st

Haha quite the buffet!

Scotti84 · 02/08/2021 14:43

@Bubbles1st hope you enjoyed, think I've been on this eating plan too long, cos that looks really nice 🤦‍♀️

CherLW · 02/08/2021 15:58

I keep seeing an advert for pasta called Zenb which is made 100% from yellow peas. Has anyone tried this? Do you think us would be good GD wise? I’ve tried some lentil pastas but just can’t get on with the texture.

@Bubbles1st that looks tasty! I love how all the cheese helps us!!

I’m with you all on the weight loss… I feel like I pretty much look the same as I did early on and pre pregnancy apart from a huge belly! 😂

Thanks for the welcome ladies
I'll going to ring the diabetic nurse in the morning judging from my last 3 days of testing blood sugar...

It's not good 😬😬😬

Are you able to check the glucometer to make sure it’s calibrated correctly? X

Moominmiss · 02/08/2021 20:59

I have to up my insulin tonight to 5 units 😔 after 3 units seemed to be helping, my fasting levels began creeping back up.

I had a diabetic consultant appointment today who said it can be quite normal for it to get more difficult to manage as the pregnancy progresses (currently 33 weeks).

Just feeling a bit crap. My after meal readings are still pretty manageable and tbh I’m eating most things as normal. It’s just this stupid fasting reading. She said something about if I’m on 10 or more units of insulin by the delivery date that I will be put on some insulin drip or something?!

Did anyone else on insulin find that you had to keep gradually increasing it?

Bubbles1st · 02/08/2021 21:12

@Moominmiss yes I'm on 19 units of insulin for fasting and today the consultant said I can expect it to keep going up as the weeks progress. Also said may be harder to keep after meal readings down and it's very usual after 32 weeks for it to become more difficult to
Manage.

I'm now on 2 metformin after breakfast and 1 after tea, which I'm hoping will encourage to eat a bit better as I had a growth scan today and baby's growth is decline on the percentile chart. They wouldn't say it was diet related but obviously I can't help feel it is.

Have to go back in a week for a further fluid volume and cord function test.

AdventuresAwait · 02/08/2021 21:24

@Moominmiss, I submitted my weekly results today and they replied that I'll probably have to increase my insulin units (currently on 10) but that we can discuss it at my appointment on Thursday.

gems05 · 02/08/2021 21:33

@AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken
I have checked the calibration yes

This bubs just wants the sugar like his daddy 🤣

Oh that’s frustrating for you. Hopefully you can get it under control without too much medical intervention.

I’m becoming quite anxious around food now. I’m going to potentially be looking at 11-12 weeks of obsessing over carbs and sugar etc. Do you think many people have had long term psychological problems around food after having GD?

Sillysocks998 · 02/08/2021 23:49

Hi Ladies how are y'all sleeping with hip pain? And I feel like right leg is painful like nerves being pressed on. I can't sleep at all in agony almost. 😢.

Scotti84 · 03/08/2021 09:21

@AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken I could understand if that is a thing. I was reading that the recommend keeping the same diet (pregnancy not GD) for about 6 months to a year after baby is born. The way i see it is im doing all this for her, because she can't do it herself, when she's out, I'm going to eat what i bloody want. Not extreme crazy, won't be on 5 coffees a day or anything, but when I know she's out and safe I think I'll have a different take on it, can you try and think of it that way too?

@Sillysocks998 im not! It's awful! Through the day it's fine but at night I'm waking up every hour or so either to go to the loo or to swap sides because of the hip pain! I'm knackered when i need to get up!

Scotti84 · 03/08/2021 09:25

Just had my midwife appt, had lots of questions and she really put my mind at rest. She said that if im managing the diabetes and baby isnt too big there's no real reason why i would have to be induced, and that my fears of things going wrong and then having to go to a c section are no different with being induced or her coming of her own will. A water birth is still an option, despite the GD, so got my next scan and GP appt on thursday, will see how my blood pressure is and how big baby is then, and then on Friday appt with the consultant in the hospital, lots to think about!

gems05 · 03/08/2021 09:27

I have had a phone call from the diabetic team this morning. I've got appt tomorrow to be put on metaformin 🤭

Moominmiss · 03/08/2021 09:38

@Bubbles1st and @AdventuresAwait how many weeks are you both now? 19 and 10 units makes my 5 units look like nothing.

Did you both start on a lower dose? How long did it take for you to get to the dose you’re at?

Also how quickly should you see improvement with insulin? Would it be instant?

Like last night I upped it to 5 units but this morning my fasting level was no different than it has been since it went high again. But I don’t know if I’m expecting too much too soon.

I have a growth scan and consultant appointment on Monday so will be interesting to see how baby is looking. They’ll be booking my c section date too so I’m wondering what impact me being on insulin will have on that decision. They’d originally wanted me to get to 39 weeks but the diabetic consultant I saw yesterday said that they may well want to bring that date forward to 38 weeks now that I’m on insulin.

I just want to have the levels under control. I feel so bad and that baby is going to be poorly all because of me.

@Sillysocks998 I can’t say it’s hip pain that’s keeping me awake at night, but definitely struggling with lower leg cramps! Every time I move positions my lower legs cramp up. It’s agony. That and waking to use the loo every hour 😴
