Just a little group for the ladies with GD to talk, ask all the questions and be there for each other

@Firevie I think metformin is difficult to get right which is why my team put me straight on insulin for fasting levels. 5 weeks later and I'm still upping my dose to find the right one to give me good fasting results. I'm sure everyone is different but you can only follow their advice and see.

bewitchingnight · 28/07/2021 20:14

Oh that sounds interesting @CherLW I want to read up more about possible interventions from a positive / practical viewpoint. I think my next appointment is just after yours next week when hopefully we'll be talking birth!

GWhiteley · 28/07/2021 23:01

At my birthing plan app today one of the first things the midwife said was 'so you'll be induced at 38 weeks because of the gd' and I was like actually the consultant has said as long as things continue the way they're going it could be between 39&40 weeks & I explained about wanting it after the 1st sept & she laughed cause she understood.
I was annoyed she assumed it would be 38 weeks.

I've been really lucky with my readings the last week & a half & all have been good. Even had a piece of garlic bread tonight as a treat. Still only taking one metformin tablet after dinner & it seems to do the trick for my fasting readings. Dietician has said to continue how I have been for another week.
Can't believe I'll be 35 weeks on Friday. So tired all the time now so looking forward to my last day at work next Friday!

Scotti84 · 29/07/2021 07:47

I'm leaving toward the c section rather than being induced, only because i have this fear that if something either goes wrong or if being induced doesn't work then they would have to do an emergency c section, so rather just plan it from the off, then I and OH can be prepared. In my head it would be more controlled and less stress for baby but I have no idea if that's actually true. Have my birth plan appt next Friday so will see then.

I've had good readings this week, surprisingly, my dad and sister finally made it over after not seeing them for 18 months so we've been going our to eat a lot, I've been sensible about it but last night was their last day and i had steak and pan fried potatos with veg, then apple strudel with a scoop of ice cream and I was still under target, not by much but i wasnt over which I'm really happy about! Ill probably get a full grip of this eating by about week 39 🤦‍♀️

AdventuresAwait · 29/07/2021 08:15

@Scotti84, I agree with you about the induction. Well done on your blood results! Xx

I’ve just cheered myself by buying some Christmas recipe books.
(I’m so sorry to any ladies who will still be pregnant and on this awful diet at Christmas)
It’s given me something tangible to look forward to.

Bubbles1st · 29/07/2021 17:08

@AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken sounds like a good idea!

My stash of post birth treats is growing!

I'm looking forward to doing a bit of batch cooking of lots of yummy stuff I've been
Missing out on and stocking up the freezer!

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 29/07/2021 18:34

I know it should be enough to look forward to the baby coming but I’ve just lost any enthusiasm due to the labour plans and the whole pregnancy being taken over by this diagnosis.
I need the Christmas food!

CherLW · 29/07/2021 21:50

Today I am really really craving chocolate and cake!! Well anything I shouldn’t have really! It’s so hard to not just eat it all!!

That’s good to hear about your readings @GWhiteley.. it’s nice to hear good news when you have appointments. I’ve got a midwife appointment tomorrow afternoon, not sure if she will talk about the birth or if that will be with the consultant next week. I’m just worried they will say things to me that will make me worry more than I already do about things.

I went out for dinner tonight and got an after dinner reading of 7.2 😕 that’s quite high for me… I just hope by the morning fasting reading it will be back to normal!

35 weeks tomorrow 😬 can’t believe it!!

AdventuresAwait · 29/07/2021 22:00

@CherLW I've been craving different foods today too! First time really and still 5 weeks to go... I have had a couple of higher readings so must get back to being strict with what I'm eating. I've not been wanting breakfast but think I'm going to have to have something as it seems to affect my pre lunch result.

I've also got a midwife appointment tomorrow!

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 29/07/2021 22:02

I want a cupcake with a ton of frosting on top 🤤

CherLW · 29/07/2021 22:06

@AdventuresAwait I feel the same… I’ve been fine now without craving for what 7 weeks but today it’s like I have to have it all!! Even tho I won’t!
I’m off work for 4 days now and I’m going to be really good, it’s annoying as I know I can be!
Hope your appointment goes well tomorrow, I just want to know what she will say in mine… I think it’s just going to be a check up and the birth plan bits will be left for my consultant next week X

AdventuresAwait · 29/07/2021 22:19

Ooh Krispy Kreme doughnuts...!! 🥰 Hope your appointment goes well @CherLW xx

GWhiteley · 30/07/2021 06:41

@CherLW I think as long as it's under 7.8 then that's all that really matters. I have plenty of readings around that mark but only get annoyed when I go over.

I'm massively struggling for dinner options at the moment as the gd has taken away several of our normal dinner choices. Went on both those gd websites & they're not that helpful or all vegetable based.

Oh, last week I had a massive sugar craving...it was awful & the first one I've had since getting diagnosed. I ended up having a couple of rich tea biscuits & then salmon with a honey glaze & that seemed to do the trick. Warrens bakery do a triple chocolate ring donut & I REALLY want one of those!!

CherLW · 30/07/2021 09:01

@GWhiteley ‘Happy 35 Weeks to us’ 😊 my morning reading today was fine and back to normal so feel much better. I guess it’s to be expected if I go out for a meal for the reading to be a bit higher.

I know what you mean regarding dinner… I struggle also. I mainly have some sort of protein like salmon, veggie kebab “meat”, tuna etc with either rice, jacket potato, pasta and then loads of salad…. This is just getting boring tho! I made a chicken and vegetable curry which was nice which I should do again. I really love chilli so will make one of those!

I’ve been thinking I need to start batch cooking so I have some meals frozen for when baby is here so thinking curry, chilli, lasagne and maybe a chicken and vegetable soup.

@GWhiteley that doughnut you mentioned 😍 sounds glorious!!

Scotti84 · 30/07/2021 11:50

I'm with you all on cravings, I need something baked, donut or cake or cupcake, ooh or a brownie, a half would do, I think I need an afternoon nap to take the craving away 🤦‍♀️

Sillysocks998 · 30/07/2021 12:22

@Scotti84 I'm so desperate for hip shop chips and curry sauce. My hubby won't go however because they don't wear masks anymore. Instead he's making me brown pasta 😢😢😢😞😞😞😔😔😔😒😒😒

Firevie · 30/07/2021 14:01

Hello ladies! I’m making the lemon cheesecake from the GD website today - sounds delicious!
I can tolerate 1square of 70%lindt dark chocolate with nuts
I can also tolerate Hartleys no sugar jelly pots
Granny Smith and peanut butter
Strawberries double cream and nuts
Oppo ice cream
Nature valley protein bar peanut and chocolate
These are all ideas I got from the GD FB page and have worked well for me so far and help with my sweet tooth (obv not more than one of these in a day lol) x

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 30/07/2021 14:43

Has anybody seen anything about this?

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/842585/

I have a bottle of B6 because I tried to take them for morning sickness in the early days of the pregnancy but I was too sick to keep them down.

I’m going to start back on them and my other pregnancy friendly vitamins tonight and report back.

Sillysocks998 · 30/07/2021 15:28

Hi @AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken
My brother has told me about active B6 P5P treatment to resolve GDM. He said the Dr's don't tell us about it. Not sure if it's expensive. But it's the active one you need. I haven't tried it. Not asked my consultant but did ask the GDM midwife and Diabetes care line operator but they Said we don't advise you take supplements. Basically just dashing this or actually don't have knowledge. All I was told to follow this GDM diet. GDM is due to high acidity not actual glucose Diabetes like type 1 or 2. That's what my brother said. My brother is not a Dr. He's highly educated in Law. I haven't asked my Dr because I think I'm having a C section soon. I've had other complications around pregnancy. So thought I'll just go with it. My GDM is diet controlled. Hope that helps x

🤣🤣🤣 thats such a husband thing to do. Thats not going to hit that craving, husbands are wonderful things arent they! Hope you find a way to get your chippy chips fix!

CherLW · 30/07/2021 19:34

I’ve had a busy day today! I had a midwife appointment and went through some birth preferences… I had to ask her tho when we would talk about this abs she originally said my next appointment but that’s 38 weeks!!

A lot of it goes down to what the consultant says because of the GD but I said to her I’m happy to go with the flow regarding pain relief etc. I’m said I’m happy to have the vitamin K jab for the baby and opted for delayed cord clamping if possible. She said depending on what the consultant says or how much they have to intervene depends if I can get in the pool.
I feel a bit better after having some sort of discussions!
