Thank you @DressyGerbera! Xx

Firevie · 08/07/2021 22:07

@AdventuresAwait glad you had a good meeting today and said what you’d prefer. At the end of the day it’s your decision and you have to do what feels right for you!
I’m ‘looking forward’ to getting my testing kit tmr so I can finally get started and experiment with it all as reading up on it is a bit overwhelming at the moment.
We had some brown rice this evening with Indian red kidney beans (we are of Indian origin so have quite a bit of lentils, red kidney beans, chickpeas). But I think I need to work on reducing my portions as I don’t know what is considered an ‘ok’ portion of rice/potatoes/bread etc. Also, do you have to pair everything? Like if I have some cucumber for an afternoon snack do I have to pair it or can i just have the cucumber? I’m interested to see what my fasting levels will be like. At the glucose test they were fine the nurse said. It was after the sugary drink that they spiked. Do you know of any stories where babies were born naturally and without induction ? I mean I’ll do whatever is best for my baby and I must admit I haven’t read up enough on inductions

AdventuresAwait · 08/07/2021 22:14

Thank you @Firevie! Yes it will be good to start tomorrow as I think it makes it clearer with what works for you.
I'm sure babies must be born naturally, without induction but don't know. It would be interesting to look into.

Scotti84 · 09/07/2021 07:11

@AdventuresAwait @Firevie that's great you got to put your wants across and they accepted them. I also feel the same as you, the idea of an induction doesn't appeal at all, I just don't see how my body or baby can be ready when the labour is brought on. I'd much rather a planned c sec than risk an induction that might not go to plan.

I asked my doc how it works here, and explained the English guidance and he said that as long as no one is at risk they prefer to go to full term wherever possible. I see him every two weeks now, so im happy if anything does change they will know, and at my next appt we will make a date with the hospital as provisional due date and then I can speak with the consultant there and get more info.

AdventuresAwait · 09/07/2021 08:02

Thank you @Scotti84! I agree about induction, especially when early and not overdue. But it's a hard decision as people do have a natural birth with an induction & that might be best for some. The other factors were just not for me, especially with my personal views and additional risks. Also pleased to have a September date so just hoping she doesn't come early naturally now which I understand she might 😊

That sounds like a good plan. It's great that you see the doctor every 2 weeks. I can't believe how close we are getting to meeting our babies!

Scotti84 · 09/07/2021 09:21

I'm still have in disbelief that there's an actual little person growing in my stomach, I dont think I'll believe it until she's here, and a whole other world of worry starts!

AdventuresAwait · 09/07/2021 09:56

Totally agree @Scotti84! I feel the same 😂

bewitchingnight · 09/07/2021 11:51

I feel like that as well! I think I'll give birth and be genuinely shocked to end up with a baby 🤣

Bubbles1st · 09/07/2021 13:09

I mean if I have to pair chocolate with clotted cream who am I to argue.... needs must 🤤

This is the Cadbury 30% less sugar bar which you can have 6 squares for less than 10g carbs.

I've started tagging my sweet treats straight into my lunch as I find it more fulfilling to eat it when I'm full and I add the carbs to over meal balance and it seems to be fine for my numbers.

@Bubbles1st that looks sooo nice! This is definitely the weirdest diet i've ever done 😅

When you throw all what we knew before about diets out the window, its actually easier

Firevie · 09/07/2021 15:03

Hi ladies! So I got given my kit today and did my Forst read after lunch which was 5.1. I’ve been told by my hospital my fasting level needs to be less than 5.3 and the others need to be less than 7.8. I’m pleased with my lunch reading but I know it’s early days yet. It’s my husbands birthday this evening so my dinner will be off the charts but will make a note of it in my app so my midwife knows.

DressyGerbera · 09/07/2021 15:24

ncie one @Bubbles1st!! i will add that to my shopping basket!

@Firevie that looks good! it is a bit on the low side though, did you have a very low or no carb lunch? everyone's different but the only time i had low 5s is when i have no carbs at all at a meal.

Moominmiss · 09/07/2021 15:44

@CherLW so I went for a chicken chow mein. Served up half of it. Then had some strawberries with Nutella after. Tested an hour later and my reading was 6.5!!! So a huge win!

I took the other half of chow mein with me to work for my lunch today, had that, an apple and a Freddo chocolate bar and got a reading of 7.1 so still good!

My fasting reading was still too high this morning though and I’m struggling to control breakfast but otherwise lunch and tea is so far so good!

Firevie · 09/07/2021 16:22

@DressyGerbera I had a salad with grilled chicken. No carbs. Do you have to have carbs with everything? I usually have salads for lunch

Bubbles1st · 09/07/2021 16:53

@Firevie it's best too, as you can't have many in a single meal you need to balance them out across the day to avoid going into to ketosis. I know we can't win!

DressyGerbera · 09/07/2021 17:01

@firevie you don't have to but it's recommended to avoid high levels of ketones. i was just wondering if you got your reading even with carbs because that sounds amazing!

speaking of ketones, i had some ketones in my wee sample this week . midwife didn't seem worried at all (in fact, i noticed it wasn't even included in the notes!). tested this morning at home again and still have it. been drinking more water but getting a more concerned now. i did have brown pasta yesterday so not sure why it's still showing up :(

GWhiteley · 09/07/2021 17:46

Ooh @Moominmiss I'm having chicken chow mein tonight but definitely going to have some yoghurt after & take a metformin tablet.

Since someone said we can have hummus I'm currently sat watching the semi finals with some & cut up carrot 😋

Firevie · 09/07/2021 18:55

@DressyGerbera @Bubbles1st thanks for the advice. Will keep in mind for the next couple of meals. It’s my hubby’s birthday so tonight will go out of the window but I’m hoping since it’s day 1 of me testing I will be back to my good routine tmr.
@GWhiteley I thought hummus was ‘safe’ I was hoping on crudités with hummus for snacks for the next three months xx

AdventuresAwait · 09/07/2021 18:59

@Bubbles1st, @Firevie, @DressyGerbera - I had 1+ ketones in my urine yesterday at my consultant/diabetic team appointment & they said it wasn't a concern at all.

GWhiteley · 09/07/2021 19:02

@Firevie I love hummus so glad I can have it.

Also bought some treat size packs of buttons when I went shopping earlier. Haven't had chocolate for over 3 weeks so looking forward to my first pack over the weekend

Firevie · 09/07/2021 19:09

@GWhiteley ah yay to hummus! I’m gonna make some at home I think. I snack on walnuts almonds cashews and pistachios so will do the same and see what it does to my levels. I’m gonna try and see how long I can go without chocolate haha xxx but I’ve read somewhere that super dark chocolate is ok like 4squares of Lindt 70%cocoa with couple of raspberries or yoghurt perhaps?!

GWhiteley · 09/07/2021 19:12

@Firevie yep dark chocolate is good. Almost forgot to get chocolate earlier & just remembered we could have buttons so went for those. Plus I'm hoping hubby won't nick these but he would the dark chocolate!

Bubbles1st · 09/07/2021 19:44

@Firevie dark chocolate is good but think it still needs pairing with something fatty rather than fruit, just have a look and check before you accidentally have too much sugar in one go.

Firevie · 09/07/2021 19:48

@Bubbles1st ah thanks for the tip. What kind of fat? Yoghurt? Cheese? Though cheese would be a weird combination? I’ll get some full fat double cream also today when I go to Tesco

Bubbles1st · 09/07/2021 20:48

@Firevie Well you don't have to literally eat them together so you can eat a babybel
For example before or after, or a spoon of peanut butter. Or dip it in cream! Be careful
With pairing with yoghurt depending of which you would use and sugar content
