Aspirin after miscarriages

Hi girliesss, so after two consecutive miscarriages I've been advised to take 150mg aspirin daily [in hopes that this baby makes it all the way]

Any success stories?

Hello lovely. I’m now 18 weeks and I’ve self prescribed 150mg a day. I’ve been honest with my midwife about it and she has no concerns at all. All scans and blood tests have come back as normal so far :) xx

lockdownbabyx · 11/06/2021 18:49

Same at PP, I self prescribed 150g aspirin after 3 MC in a row. I too was honest to midwife and GP who were happy for me to take it. I'm now 20 weeks pregnant, before the aspirin I never made it past 7 weeks. Good luck ☺️ xx

imaginethemdragons · 11/06/2021 18:50

No not really.
To give you a balanced picture.

I took it out of desperation. It made the next miscarriage more torrential with bleeding. (Obviously as it’s an anticoagulant)
I took it on advice from the reoccurring miscarriage clinic.
They said that they don’t actually know the cause of 80% of all miscarriages.
There is no evidence to support such medications.
(They had me on a combination of medications).
It’s a lottery with zero guarantees.

After 3 miscarriages I’ll be taking 75mg aspirin from CD1 ahead of my next embryo transfer, as well as extra progesterone from transfer day, in agreement with my consultant. I ended up in hospital having a haemorrhage with my last MC and I wasn’t taking anything that time, but if it happens again at least I’ll know what to expect and won’t wait as long to go.

@Summersun001 @lockdownbabyx I hope you make it through to a healthy & safe pregnancy! I'm so happy to hear this

@imaginethemdragons well I've had tests for clotting done and they've come clear. So I'm wondering why I've been advised to take Aspirin

@Sunbird24 wishing you lots of luck! I hope you make it all the way with happiness & a baby in your arms!

@haidri thank you, you too!
Sometimes you may only have clotting issues when you’re actually pregnant, perhaps they’re accounting for that possibility?

haidri · 11/06/2021 21:11

@Sunbird24 I didn't know it was possible for someone who hasn't got a clotting disorder to begin clotting during pregnancy... perhaps this may have been the reason why they're prescribing me aspirin for full term

@haidri sorry of your losses! I too had 2 miscarriages in a row and was prescribed 150mg of aspirin and I am now 21 weeks pregnant and so far everything seems as it should.

haidri · 11/06/2021 22:46

@Fawn68 I'm so excited for you. Thank you for giving me that glimpse of high hopes! Wish me luck! X

I was prescribed aspirin as I had a subchrionic haemorrhage at 9 weeks. Was told that I was having a miscarriage as I was bleeding heavily. A week later went for a scan and baby was still there. Turned out I was positive for anti phospholipid antibodies, so haematologist put me on 150mg aspirin. That baby is now nearly 10, she put us through the mill but she's well worth it!

zeromango · 16/06/2021 00:47

@Summersun001 @lockdownbabyx did you take it from BFP? X

Kinsters · 16/06/2021 04:46

I've had four pregnancies. Two I took aspirin (one from positive test, the other from ovulation). The two where I took aspirin were successful, so far at least as I'm 13 weeks with my second. I don't know if it's just coincidence but if I planned any more pregnancies then I'd be taking aspirin again for sure.

NatMoz · 16/06/2021 04:49

Do you take the aspirin until birth?

LimpLettice · 16/06/2021 06:41

I self prescribed 75mg after 3 early losses on the advice of a midwife relative. From bfp to 36 weeks which was advised by my consultant as it can exacerbate bleeding. Same again a year later as soon as I found out. Was told it absolutely couldn't hurt.

Sunbird24 · 16/06/2021 07:41

I’ve got my 75mg aspirin, just waiting for CD1 now!

Moominmiss · 16/06/2021 07:41

@haidri I had 4 mc in a row and self administered 150mg aspirin daily from 1dpo.
I’m now 26 weeks pregnant and things have been going perfectly so far.
The only thing I did differently was the aspirin so I do think it’s what helped. I’m still taking it now. Both my midwife and consultant were on board and the consultant even said she’d have prescribed it had I not already been on it!

ButtercupBlue · 16/06/2021 07:47

I'm taking it in this pregnancy on the advice of the recurrent miscarriage clinic. They actually didn't find anything wrong in any of the tests they did but recommended high dose folic acid during TTC and 75mg aspirin from BFP anyway. I'm also on high dose vitamin D as mine is low.

This is my 8th pregnancy (2 children, 5 miscarriages) and I had two mmc at the exact same gestation last year (everything looked good right up until 8 weeks when the heart stopped and I had surgery a couple of weeks later) so I'm really hoping the medications will make a difference this time.

Fingers crossed it helps all of us on this thread!

I started taking it from ovulation and have continued taking it since. Had my 20 week scan yesterday and all looking perfect ☺️. I will take aspirin again for any future pregnancies, 100% x

IloveGod2 · 16/06/2021 09:44

Hi everyone. Congrats to you all. Can I ask what brand of aspirin people are taking. Maybe if you can post pic please. Not sure which to buy as some say disperin and anti something. Confused. Thank you in advance

Sunbird24 · 16/06/2021 09:47

I just got whatever the pharmacist in my supermarket had in stock…

Moominmiss · 16/06/2021 10:04

@IloveGod2 I just buy the yellow boxes. I buy them from tescos, co op, wherever really. Think they say enteric costed or something. They’re 75mg tablets so I just take 2 a day

IloveGod2 · 16/06/2021 10:56

Thanks guy. I've just asked my midwife.
