Just wondering what I could dress a baby girl in to come home who’s due august 30th in England id like an actual outfit rather than just a baby grow I was thinking maybe a dress and then I could pack a cardigan and some tights aswell incase it’s colder. What’s everyone think

Outfits are lovely to look at but not the comfiest for newborns.

I stick to the basics. Bodysuit, sleepsuit, cardigan, hat, thin blanket and layer as needed based on how hot it feels on the day.

sparemonitor · 11/06/2021 13:09

Oh bless. Honestly just put them in a baby grow. You'll have enough to think about.

Ohshitiveturnedintomymother · 11/06/2021 13:14

In august you’ll just want a baby grow or even a vest and thin blanket!

You can get vests with tutus attached if you really want to put her in something like a dress?

Zarene · 11/06/2021 13:15

Baby grow. You want her to be comfy, and if you have something special she's almost certain to poo or vomit on it the moment it goes on.

kitten789 · 11/06/2021 13:16

Tights are extremely hard to get on a newborn. There are some lovely baby grows you can get with a little tutu attached or Ted baker used to do some lovely ones (albeit expensive) with nice touches if you wanted something special.

jupitermars1345 · 11/06/2021 13:16

Honestly?
White vest and baby grow
Cardigan if needed and cellular blanket :)

Ellieboolou33 · 11/06/2021 13:21

Babygrow, newborns are cute enough as it is and there will be plenty of time to dress up, first few months is pointless, they just look uncomfortable and impractical.

GreyhoundG1rl · 11/06/2021 13:22

What pp said. No need for frilly dresses and tights (!) on any newborn, let alone an August born baby.

lalaloopyhead · 11/06/2021 13:25

It doesn't need to be a bog standard babygrow if you want something special OP, but you can get some lovely all in ones for new borns that would probably be a lot more practical and comfortable.

Moominmiss · 11/06/2021 13:26

As others suggested. Vest and babygrow. I always feel sorry for babies in dresses etc. They look so uncomfortable.

StevieNix · 11/06/2021 13:30

Honestly I think there is nothing cuter than a baby in a sleepsuit, they are so teeny and you just want them to be comfy. You can get some gorgeous sleep suits, really fancy ones. I would do that and maybe take a little cardi and a cute hat and light blanket; and make those a bit more special.
I think there is nothing worse than seeing a tiny newborn in uncomfortable clothing like tights/jeans etc

hanketypankety · 11/06/2021 13:31

You will just have given birth and be absolutely knackered. All that's important is that you take home a lovely healthy baby surely? Hmm nappy, vest/babygro, blanket, into car seat, into the car, happy days!

murbblurb · 11/06/2021 13:31

Something nice and washable for all the body fluids that she'll leak over it, however cute.

Legoninjago1 · 11/06/2021 13:33

Babygros x lots!

Checkingout811 · 11/06/2021 13:35

Honestly don’t bother with a dress, cardigan and tights. Baby will be uncomfortable if nothing else and she’s not a doll.
I’m assuming this is your first baby!

My DS2 is august born and came home in a vest. It was boiling!

Shahlalala · 11/06/2021 13:36

Yeah… completely agree with other posters. DS is an August baby and came home in a body vest and socks as it was the hottest day of the year.
Newborns are still kid of curled up, even sleepsuits can be a faff to get on them.

Thewiseoneincognito · 11/06/2021 13:38

Outfit? 😆 she’s going home not the pub. Baby grow and a blanket will be enough, you’ll be knackered so make it easy for yourself. All the best with your birth though!! 💕

Jellybabiesforbreakfast · 11/06/2021 13:38

I was so afraid of breaking my baby for the first few weeks that I only used sleepsuits which zipped or poppered down the front so I could lie them on it and then fasten the sleepsuit gently over them. Perhaps a bit extreme (babies are robust little buggers!) but good luck getting tights on a wriggly newborn Grin!

I bought my June baby home during a heatwave in vest and a baby grow and she was far too hot. We bought her some lovely little rompers which were perfect. We dressed her in dresses too for outings. Generally mumsnet will tell you it’s akin to cruelty to dress your baby in anything but a white sleepsuit. Dress your baby how you want to!

My August baby was brought home in a snow suit as it was so bloody freezing.

Viviennemary · 11/06/2021 13:53

I absolutely disapprove of dressing up a newborn in dress and tights. Ridiculous. She isnt going for a night out on the town ffs.

DirectionsForUse · 11/06/2021 13:53

A pretty baby grow or romper. Don't deliberately put your tiny baby in something uncomfortable for the benefit of others. Surely we're not going to start that at a few days old .

TeaandHobnobs · 11/06/2021 13:54

Angel & Rocket do some extremely funky babygros / all in ones

Sleepyquest · 11/06/2021 13:55

Don't put your newborn baby in a dress, it isn't comfortable for them and it will take you ages to get it on her. Just put her in a baby grow x

parietal · 11/06/2021 13:56

you have little idea what size she will be. my first was 5lb12 and fitted the 'newborn' or 'premie' clothes but my friend's first was 8lb and fitted the 3-6months. babies grow very fast and there is a big range of sizes.

you definitely don't want tights - babies legs will probably be too skinny & delicate.

don't have anything with buttons or poppers at the back. it is not comfortable for baby to lie on her back on a row of buttons.

I found the sets with a bodysuit + something on top were best for 'smart' clothes in any baby under 3mo. the vest or bodysuit holds the nappy on & is comfy for the baby. Boots have nice ones in soft fabrics.
