Just wondering what I could dress a baby girl in to come home who’s due august 30th in England id like an actual outfit rather than just a baby grow I was thinking maybe a dress and then I could pack a cardigan and some tights aswell incase it’s colder. What’s everyone think

I had a baby earlier in the year, I was discharged from hospital at 9pm and wasn't home and settled til gone 10pm so I was glad I didn't bother with a fancy outfit and just put baby in a 'nicer' sleepsuit.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 11/06/2021 15:27

White babygro. All babies are beautiful, but they always look extra specially gorgeous in a simple plain white babygro.

8dpwoah · 11/06/2021 15:28

As others, a nice romper or sleepsuit. You don't know what time you'll get out or what the weather will be, I had vests, baby grows, a cardigan and a hat ready for my June baby and it ended up being lunchtime on a heatwave day so even the hospital just said babygrow, no vest or blanket, and they normally seem to have you well wrapped up! Ours were all plain as we didn't know the sex but this time we know we're having a girl so I will pack some 'pretty' versions of the same thing safe in the knowledge there will likely be meconium or posset on them before we've shut the car door!

My dad says this. I loved putting DD2 in baby grows all the time. She’s 8.5mo now though and crawling so leggings and tops are better for her.

This is true. Nice fresh white clothes while they can't move about and get grubbed up do look very lovely.

Baby gro or vest if hot - if you must dress up make sure it’s a similar soft material .

Yup Grin, tiny soft blue jeans with an elasticated waist...I think they were from H & M.

BigWoollyJumpers · 11/06/2021 15:36

Rompers are great if the weather is hot. DD born in July wore mostly pure crisp cotton, very light, rompers for her first couple of months. It was one of the hottest summers on record, so she hardly wore anything at all! You can get some really pretty girly ones, or just white and cool.

Houseofvelour · 11/06/2021 15:36

Sleepsuit. Honestly, there's no point bothering with a coming home outfit as it'll have vomit on it after about 3 seconds and as cute as they look, they're not comfy for baby.

Just seem this..... adorable Grin.

They are all so curled up etc initially that it's really hard to get anything on them. I would stick to a baby grow, but I'd get a really nice one.

I bought a special baby grow for my Daughter, cost £25 for a really nice one and I put it on her ready to leave the hospital and within 5 minutes, she shat all over it. I ended up leaving the hospital with her in a cheap plain, white, boring baby grow.

TidyOmlette · 11/06/2021 15:53

Bodysuits and more bodysuits. Some are gorgeous colours and much easier to change and wash

miltonj · 11/06/2021 15:58

There's no reason not to put your baby in an outfit or dress. In fact this is the best time too... they're not mobile so it's not impractical for them and they can't wriggle away so it's easy to dress them! They're not uncomfortable, they're designed for babies. So if you want to, go for it! Next, Boden and even Asda have some really nice stuff. Good luck and congratulations 🎉

miltonj · 11/06/2021 15:59

But yes do be prepared that she will, sick, poo, and wee all over it!

JazzerMcCreary · 11/06/2021 16:02

You can get some lovely rompers this time of year. Practical and cute. You can add a vest/cardi/socks as required, depending on the weather. DD has a lovely yellow and white polka dot one from M&S.

caringcarer · 11/06/2021 16:02

I'd choose a white lawn cotton dress with pink hand smocking. My dd lived in dresses like that as a baby but they seem out of fashion now. I wanted to get some for my dgd but my dd told me 'no Mum she is not Princess Charlotte'.

drumandthebass · 11/06/2021 16:04

Another vote for a white velour baby grow.

I didn't know a "coming home" outfit was even a thing !

MaloInAnAppleTree · 11/06/2021 16:07

That strawberry romper is lovely but a) you don’t know what size she’ll be b) you don’t know what the weather will be like

KurtWilde · 11/06/2021 16:16

It's more about comfort for your newborn than having a frilly frock. Sleepsuit and a thin blanket, with a hat.

Putthekettleon2021 · 11/06/2021 16:24

I was due the end of August and baby ended up being born early September. In all honesty I was going to buy a lovely 'coming home outfit' she ended up coming home in a romper. So either sleepsuit or romper. I was so ill after having DD that faffing around with a fiddly outfits. All the pretty dresses she had were so impractical, she lived in sleepsuits and rompers for the first few months till she could hold her own head up, then dressing her became easier.

Hoppinggreen · 11/06/2021 16:26

You probably won’t care but in case you do find a baby grow you like and put the baby in that.
Also, drastically lower your expectations

Luhou · 11/06/2021 16:39

Some of these comments are harsh, I understand why you want to mark the occasion with a nice outfit. None the less newborns look a bit silly in a dress and tights are always to big. A nice romper and a pair of frilly socks, maybe a caridgan if it's cold.

Something like this...www.next.co.uk/g864904s4/230313

TheSmallAssassin · 11/06/2021 17:00

Well, put her in a dress if you want to make sure that she knows as soon as possible that the most important thing about being a girl is looking nice for other people Hmm

doadeer · 11/06/2021 17:07

Please just go for comfort and ease. It will be hot and you'll be tired

21Flora · 11/06/2021 18:23

@TheSmallAssassin What a ridiculous reach. Everybody dresses their baby in what they think looks nice, boy or girl.
