Movements from about 14-15 weeks: do you feel them every day or are there days when you don't?

I suppose the title says it all really. I'm 16+4 with no.3 so I should be an expert by now. However because I had a miscarriage at 9 weeks this summer I am ultra-paranoid this time. I felt early movements and definite flutterings around the 14 week mark, but since about 15 and a half weeks I just can't tell if I'm still feeling anything. I know it's still massively early but as I said I'm paranoid....I felt early movements with ds2 too but that was pre-misc so I was so much more relaxed and didn't analyse every little thing like I'm doing now.

Do you think the baby has just moved? I almost wish I hadn't felt anything early then I wouldn't be obsessed with it now.

Anyone? Sorry to waffle.

Hi,
same here.
Just posted a new link this am actually.
N.2 for me and I also feel so much more paranoid because I spent so much time on MN since and know so many things can go wrong!
I defo feel baby everyday since last week (14 weeks) but you have to tune in and be still.
Try lying down after a meal and some juice. lie on you side and cup your belly and breathe .
And enjoy!.Take care.

Hi Slim, just read your thread! It is lovely to feel them move so early isn't it, god, wish I wasn't becoming so obsessed with movements. I just wish I would get another proper "kick" like I had a couple of weeks ago...I'm so busy in the day with ds1&2 I never seem to sit still long enough to concentrate. Keep thinking "oh today I'll feel a proper big flutter" but still waiting. Well, I've had the odd thing but v.v. faint compared to a couple of weeks ago. Baby always seems to be still whenever I finally am at the moment. Will try and take time out (haha) today and do what you recommended, thanks, take care yourself too

I'm in the same sitaution. Felt things from very early. 11 weeks I began to feel tiny fluttery movements. By 14 and a half weeks I could feel really big fluttery movements and one time what felt like a kick but I reckon the baby moved around suddenly or something as it's so early. Felt these every day, but not felt anything for two or three days now. Had a scan the other day and baby is getting big and is very active and healthy. I think maybe it's just having a sleep or something. My tummy has gone so risiculously bloated the past few days that i can't really feel anything other than pain off that.

I'm sure everything is fine.

snooks · 19/11/2007 10:01

Thanks Hayley. Movements so early feels like a blessing and a curse iykwim. Eating some choc and drinking juice, going to lie down on sofa and concentrate on bump while dses watch Mr Tumble....

Hi snooks, I definatly had days early on where I was feeling movement and then not for a good few days. It think being busy at work though and not having a definate bump yet just took my mind off being pregnant thus I was not noticing any movements. If the baby has moved so he/she is facing you then you won't feel these movements and sometimes, because he/she is not very big and strong just yet, you may not feel all others. If you are really worried why not contact your midwife (with the past history of a miscarriage) I'm sure she can provide reassurance even if this is asking you to book in with your local doctors surgery where they can have a listen for the heartbeat.

goingfor3 · 19/11/2007 10:04

I'm 12+4 and have already felt baby moving around - fifth pregnancy and taking preogesterone so uterus very relaxed. I didn't feel anything yesterday or today and put it down to the baby being in a different position. It's very normal not to feel early movements everyday.

VictorianSqualor · 19/11/2007 10:07

No.3 for me too, am 20 weeks, and have been feeling movements for about 6/7 weeks now, some days I feel loads and some days I feel nothing.
It is perfectly normal, there is so much room still for baby to move around in that at times you won't feel anything.

snooks · 19/11/2007 10:56

Thank you all for your reassurance. There are odd times during the past week when I've thought I've felt something but it's been when I've been doing the washing up or something, not when I'm actually lying down and primed and concentrating. Gemy maybe I will phone m/w. I just wish I could feel one definite flutter to put my mind at rest (til the next time...)

I find laying on my belly makes me feel baby more, it gets rather annoyed about being squashed

cazzybabs · 19/11/2007 11:11

I am 38weeks and I have never felt movements every single day (this is also my 3rd). Some days it is more active than others and other days i don't feel anythign (although no feeling days have got less as the baby has grown). I think it depends on how active I am and what I have eaten. The days I sit still I feel it more and if I am ruinning round doing stuff I don't feel it.

snooks · 19/11/2007 11:16

good tip victoriansqualor, will try that too x

hi there snooks
i agree...at this stage you won't feel it all the time, the baby is still pretty small and has lots of space, so you'd only feel movements if he/she's at the side of your uterus. also, i seem to remember i had a similar experience of feeling it at 16 weeks then not, then got a terrible cough and coughing fits set off his movements (not wishing that on you though!) i know you've had prev mc and how bad that paranoia can be (had one myself and now am 5 weeks and driving myself mad!) but really the odds of anything going wrong at this stage are INCREDIBLY small.
you could get yourself a doppler but maybe this would increase the paranoia!!

snooks · 19/11/2007 16:07

Thanks for msg cazzybabs
And just seen your post Marymalone. Congrats on your pregnancy! Nightmare isn't it. I never analysed every blardy thing/symptom with ds1&2 but everything is different after a m/c isn't it. Thank you for your reassurance. The doppler idea is a good one, I just don't want to freak myself out if I can't find the heartbeat because I'm unskilled, does that make sense? I think I felt some v faint flutters around lunchtime but this bloomin' baby seems to be asleep whenever I have the chance to lie down and think about it. I'm hoping it means this will be just one laid-back, calm baby which would be nice after the whirlwind that is ds2.
I had another thought: I've had 2 dating scans (one private, one NHS), both of them gave me the same due date: 1st May. This would mean I supposedly conceived 6 days after my m/c....I believed it (conception)to be a couple of weeks after that because I had strong ov signs. Trouble is I just don't feel like I know or trust my body anymore so god knows what's going on. Phew feel better for getting that off my chest [head spinning emoticon]

OP posts:
snooks · 19/11/2007 16:09

What I mean by that load of waffle is that I may only be 14 weeks or so instead of the 16+4 that the scans make me.

OP posts:
missvicki · 19/11/2007 16:33

Confussed now snooks!!!! I have the same due date as you 1st of may 2008 but according to my last scan i should now be 17+1 today!

I am another one not sure of dates, due not exactly planning to get pregnant! well sure it doesn't matter but just thought it odd!

missvicki · 19/11/2007 16:34

Also still haven't felt my baby, well not to what i could actually say yeah that was baby!!

snooks · 19/11/2007 16:38

Well that's really weird missvicki, I'm very sceptical of how they work it out. I basically should have been 16 weeks last Thursday. As my mum always says "oh you can know too much these days. We just used to get on with it and not worry". Err, thanks mum (but a grain of truth in there too I think).

snooks · 19/11/2007 16:40

Just saw your second post too, don't worry about that, I tell you, it's better than thinking you've felt it and then not for a few days!

OP posts:
missvicki · 19/11/2007 16:40

yes very true, Baby will arrive when it's good and ready!!!!!

Cool to know someone on here is due around the same time as me!

snooks · 19/11/2007 16:53

Yes same here. I'm not on any ante-natal threads yet (ie "due in May 08" sort of thing) cos scared I'll jinx it this time around but will look out for you from now on x

OP posts:
snooks · 19/11/2007 16:55

PS with my first pregnancy I didn't feel him move til about 22 weeks (just noticed it's your first) but after that it's kick kick kick.

boabsmum · 19/11/2007 17:19

snooks - so glad you posted this! I'm expecting no 3 too and was so sure I felt movements at 16 weeks, but a week later there's nothing. I hate this waiting time in between the hospital scan and seeing the midwife with her doppler thingy.

Thankfully I'm going tomorrow so all being well I can stop being paranoid.

I felt movements quite regularly with the other 2 from about 15 weeks.

missvicki - will stalk you onto the antenatal thread

snooks · 19/11/2007 17:49

Hi boabsmum, glad to hear you're in the same boat! And I mean that in the nicest possible way Maybe we're just expecting too much because it's our third iykwim? Good luck with m/w tomorrow, I'm quite envious. I will ring mine on Weds if I'm still worried (we live in a village and she only visits the surgery on weds afternoons).

One of the reasons most new mums,a nd some second/third timers do not feel baby move until after the halfway period is that your uterus is not touching your abdomen yet, same can be for why you feel it intermittently, you could just be touching the abdomen wall therefore only feeling it in certain conditions. Please don't worry ladies
Oh and snooks, I hope you soon feel happy enough to get on an antenatal thread, I'm on the DueApril2008 thread and I feel so much better after any worries when I have spoken to the ladies on my thread, it's great knowing that they are in the same boat as me, and at the same point.
Good Luck to everyone with all your pregnancies
