Hi,

It was just confirmed at my scan yesterday I am having twins. Looking for anyone here currently having or had twins to let me know if symptoms aren't as bad in second trimester?

I have been beyond exhausted and useless for my daughter so just hoping I get at least a little energy back?

Huge congratulations!!! My twins turn four this week and they are so much fun!
Yes, I felt so much better in the second trimester. I stopped being sick and got a bit more energy back. Hope you feel better soon too x

Lawnpop · 23/05/2021 07:21

Congratulations! I was lucky in that I didn’t feel too bad in the first trimester. At about 18 weeks though I stared to get really low blood pressure which would make me feel awful. I had mine early at 32 weeks which wasn’t great but at least I didn’t get to the really uncomfortable stage. Twin pregnancy is very hard though but not as hard as actually having twins Grin They are a lot of fun though. If you want to breastfeed there is a brilliant Facebook group called breastfeeding twins and triplets UK which gives amazing advice and support, not just on breastfeeding. I recommend joining twins trust too

Yes, it got massively better for me at around 14 weeks. You get tired later on, but the middle bit is lovely. Congratulations 😊

I had it pretty good with my twins early on. Nausea but only a couple of days of vomiting, I wasn't too bad with fatigue until later. It was very hard in the 2nd half, I had spd and they were huge for twins (17lb combined at 38wk), couldn't sleep more than an hour before being woken by pain. I still managed to look after the family right up to birth, 3 kids & dh with broken leg from 26wk to day after birth (he was less use than a chocolate teapot and moaned a lot). I had an elcs as twin 1 turned breech between 32&36wk scans. Did leave my body a bit broken with diastasis recti and a weakened core which had me in constant pain for a couple of years, then got in the gym and repaired the damage. Our girls were worth every second, they are extra special.

Chelyanne · 23/05/2021 09:55

Oh and our girls are 6 now and we're expecting baby number 6 in Aug.

IndigoJam · 23/05/2021 13:49

Thanks all. Not used to being tired. My first (single) pregnancy was a breeze. I wasn't up or down and she was 2 weeks late. Just not got energy to play with her and she won't play alone. I still manage to make meals etc but playing I just have no energy for and I feel so bad

How old is she op?

My twins are 17 months, the tiredness Def got better but got replaced by SPD and an inability to sit comfortably 😂

They're my greatest joy now 😂. mostly. And DS is nearly 6 and great with them. Mostly

IndigoJam · 23/05/2021 14:10

@SleepingStandingUp she's 4. Shell be 3 months shy of 5 by the time I give birth. She's so used to getting all the attention from both me and my partner but I just don't have the energy to do anything but keep her alive at this point.

Mine was 2 months younger than yours will be when they came and same, he's a medically complex kid too so fairly indulged and used to being the centre of the world. They came just before lockdown 1. I'm not saying he's perfect, now they're mobile it can be a battle some days but they adore him and he loves them both fairly equally (I mean he says he prefers T1 but he can't tell them apart and usually ends up playing with T2, he'll grow out of it!)
I worried ds1 would be left out as the twins grow older but I honestly think he'll always just be the coolest one, just like your daughter will be

I'm pregnant with twins and pretty much a write off. 33 weeks now with pgp, GD and my DD aged 4 has decided not sleeping through the night is now her new thing.
Can you rely on family and friends to keep her entertained for a bit? We have family picking her up from school then I go and get her about 5. DH gets home about 6 so we have cuddles and do jigsaws at the table etc for thay hour.
For me the whole pregnancy has been really tiring... and I know it will continue once they're here but at least then I'll be more mobile to play with her.
Keeping her alive and happy and you from doing yourself any harm is all that matters right now. Flowers

Hi , congratulations 🥰 my twins are 3. I was so scared after my scan but please don't be. You'll be fine. My pregnancy was ok but I stayed home from work after 28 weeks. It wasn't really the pregnancy, more the nature of my work and the lack of understanding. From 35 weeks I found difficult. Twins were born just shy of 38 weeks.

IndigoJam · 24/05/2021 11:24

Thanks all. We're your births all cesarean? I probably shouldn't think about this stuff at this stage but can't stop myself.

Mine was a c section and it was a great experience. Recovery is tough but so is every recovery after a major operation. I wouldn't change my birth.

SleepingStandingUp · 24/05/2021 14:36

Planned C Sec following an EMCS with older child. I had three midwives as there was a spare one 😅 so got some great photos of the babies coming out.

Recovery is hard and I pushed myself too much (just before Xmas) so you do need to try and get Ind to yourself

SleepingStandingUp · 24/05/2021 14:36

*Be kind to yourself

Lawnpop · 24/05/2021 19:41

Yes has c section as waters went unexpectedly and had to be delivered at 32 weeks

andivfmakes3 · 24/05/2021 19:47

Congratulations twins are amazing!!

I had twins in January and also have a 4 (nearly 5) year old

I was incredibly lucky that I had zero symptoms with my twins - no nausea or sickness

I'm pretty petite though and really struggled from 18 weeks onwards physically though - pelvis hips and bump hurt if I walked too far or stood too long. Pretty much working from the sofa from 18 weeks onwards. By 28 weeks getting very tired. Testing heartrate of over 100. I did experience very large bleeds from 28 weeks onwards and was in and out of hospital every 2-3 days for 2-3 nights. I ended up haemorrhaging and had a placental abruption and emergency c section at 34+5 - twins were in hospital 3 weeks but perfectly healthy. I stayed in 2 nights but they sent me home as I healed really well plus had DD at home (and trying to home school during the lockdown!)

I'm actually finding having twins pretty easy - I think because I'm not a first timer and more confidant this time round! Plus DD is at school so I can focus on the twins During the day

5 is a good age for an older sister - my DD has been amazing and very helpful!

ladygindiva · 24/05/2021 19:52

Hi! I also have 4 year old twins and my second trimester was way better than with my singleton as my sickness stopped. I won't lie, I had to rest ALOT from 32ish weeks onwards. Don't be a hero is my advice. Congratulations!

ladygindiva · 26/05/2021 08:06

Op my twins were c section but I know 6 sets of twin mums and it's a 50/50 split c section or vaginal birth amongst us.

IndigoJam · 26/05/2021 08:31

Thank you for all the advice. I'll have the 3 of them at home for about 8 months, with her birthday she doesn't start school until Aug 22 so I guess it'll be a learning curve for me. Just trying to read as much as possible and get as much advice as I can. I like to be prepared

My sons are nearly 30 and the best of friends. They were born at 30 weeks and are both 6 foot now! Definitely join a local twins club while you're pregnant, you will get loads of support plus they sell second-hand equipment which can be expensive when you're buying two of everything! Your hv should have details of one local to you. All the best.t

IndigoJam · 30/05/2021 07:16

Can I ask you ladies which type of pram you found best? Tandem or side to side. Started researching and realised not a lot of things out there targeted at more than 1.

waveajay · 30/05/2021 07:24

We had a side by side. Out and about is brilliant but we had a bugaboo.

ladygindiva · 30/05/2021 11:42

Out n about nipper side by side. I couldn't fault it, just get the tyres filled at Halfords! Bloody punctures. Otherwise the perfect buggy imo.

ellesbellesxxx · 31/05/2021 06:50

Mountain buggy duet! Loved it!
