@MrsTerryPratchett do you go on many threads with completely pointless things to say or are you just following me around like a bad smell?!
I don't even recognise your NN. I do tend to comment on threads that appear to be thinly veiled anti-vax propaganda. Have you posted more than one?

@supollard

Hello.

I’m pregnant and due my second dose (I’m a nurse so had the first dose some time ago), I have delayed it until after the first trimester. I’m having it next week. Really only delayed it because I have felt so rough with morning sickness that I didn’t want anything else causing me side effects. I can say categorically that getting COVID in late pregnancy or in the post natal period is something I would not risk for a second. Have seen too many otherwise well and healthy mothers on ECMO in ITU because of it. Have been surprised that more isn’t made of the risks to pregnant women.

The info from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists is a good place to start and worth noting that Ireland is now recommending it for pregnant women between 14-32 weeks. I’m sure it’s a matter of time before the same thing happens here x

This scares me so much as I have been advised not to get it by 2 midwives. I was set to get it when my age was called (I’m 37) but now have doubts!
Coachee · 09/05/2021 06:28

The lack of clear advice makes the decision challenging but I’d say that in most cases being vaccinated is the right choice. There is a great webinar on the evidence by a panel of experts put together by Pregnant then Screwed. I’ll see if I can find the link.

I’m 40 and 20 weeks pregnant. I’ve been called for the vaccine but I’m going to discuss it with the consultant this week. I don’t if I will be able to go for it - my personal history includes clotting and recurrent miscarriage and I’m on heparin and aspirin. I will get it once baby is here, despite planning to breastfeed.

If I didn’t have a high risk pregnancy, I would definitely get the vaccine. I also wouldn’t put it off if I was TTC - that doesn’t seem at all sensible, or evidence based and a big risk of delaying vaccination by years rather than months.

Coachee · 09/05/2021 06:32

Here it is - webinar on Covid vaccine in pregnancy

Em39ma · 09/05/2021 06:48

I’m only 7 weeks and was called up 2 weeks ago.
I’ve decided not to have the vaccine, I’m a older mum, very much longed for pregnancy after a number of losses.
I also have a history of drug reactions. My midwife refused to give me the flu vaccine in my pregnancy with my DD as they don’t know how I will react to it. If I have to I will just isolate until December when I’m due.

mrssunshinexxx · 09/05/2021 07:05

@FTEngineerM if you get it make sure it's the Pfizer or moderna!

I think when both my midwives ans GP have said 'not to rush' that's all the advice I need whilst pregnant
Yes over 100,000 pregnant women have been vaccinated but these babies haven't been born healthy yet

Hi!

Thanks for posting this question as it’s a hot topic at the moment. I was called Wednesday for the vaccine and so far, I have decided not to have it. I am 9 weeks. I feel that the risks of catching it in the first and second trimester are low so I’m going to hand fire. I agree that there are risks in the third trimester but I’m holding out for more data and research. Please
Correct me if I’m wrong, but no baby of a vaccinated mother will have been born yet for us to truly see the outcome. I have seen a number of specialists and I keep being given different advice. For that reason, I’ve decided not to act and to sit tight.

mrssunshinexxx · 09/05/2021 07:57

I feel the same as you @RichmondLady1981 yes we haven't seen any data of babies being born healthily after mothers having the vaccine, I'm pretty sure it's not advised until after 14 weeks also, I think I am going to wait until I'm much further on and then see what research and facts there are. Worse case I will just take a big step back in third trimester start getting shopping delivered and not have people in our home etc to limit x

I’m 35 weeks so likely won’t be asked before baby is due. I’ll have it when breastfeeding as evidence does seem to suggest positive benefits. Also so many women drink when breastfeeding as just a small percentage gets in milk so it seems unlikely there’s any massive influx of some antibodies into the milk which will do harm.

Mrsmch123 · 09/05/2021 08:45

I was offered it in January when I was around 16 weeks as I'm a nurse. I declined it and will not take it until the baby is here. I 100% believe in the vaccine just not while pregnant. I will take reasonable precautions while still pregnant. I also had Covid in December while I was 11 weeks🤦🏻‍♀️

SamuelWhiskey · 09/05/2021 08:47

Please Correct me if I’m wrong, but no baby of a vaccinated mother will have been born yet for us to truly see the outcome

You are wrong. There are plenty of babies who have been born to vaccinated mothers. In the US the Pfizer/Modena vaccines have been more widely given to pregnant women from the outset, so this is where most of our data comes from. The data isn't there for the AZ vaccine yet, but it's not likely you'll be offered this unless it is specifically requested or you already have asked for it. I'm in my third trimester and have been fully vaccinated.

There is no evidence or theoretical mechanism by which either vaccine has an adverse effect on the foetus or pregnant woman. There is evidence that Covid is particularly dangerous for pregnant women and increases risk of stillbirth and preterm labour. It's much more likely getting Covid could affect your fertility and chances of conceiving than the vaccine.

MaverickDanger · 09/05/2021 08:52

I’m breastfeeding & will be getting the vaccine as soon as I can. Same if I was pregnant.

Many pregnant women (not people) will be under 40 & therefore will not be offered the AZ one - plus the guidance is to book via the GP for Pfizer or Moderna.

If anyone is unsure, please check out @byvickysmith on Instagram. She has a pinned story dedicated to proper research into the vaccine and pregnant women.

Definately · 09/05/2021 09:03

I agonised over this for weeks, then the GP rang to offer it, I reminded them I'm pregnant and they said they wouldn't do it anyway so that was the decision made.

Katy4321 · 09/05/2021 09:09

I'm a scientist who work in new drug research and would but very cautious about a new drug in pregnancy, but a vaccination is a very different thing. Essentially a biological RNA molecule in the case of moderna and pfizer. Your body then uses this to make spike protein and then immune system responds. Vaccines are extremely well understood, these particular ones have already been used extensively in the US in pregnancy.
For me I would be putting my baby at far far greater risk from Covid by not having the vaccine, so will definitely get it.

WeavingWandering · 09/05/2021 09:30

I was called last week and would have absolutely had one if I didn’t have another condition that put me at higher risk of vaccine complications and was told it was too high a risk.

Actually cried when I had to turn it down.

FTEngineerM · 09/05/2021 10:34

Many pregnant women (not people) will be under 40 & therefore will not be offered the AZ one - plus the guidance is to book via the GP for Pfizer or Moderna.

That’s certainly the official advice @MaverickDanger but it categorically isn’t that simple in practice. The national line didn’t know what I was on about when I said I was pregnant so wanted to know how to arrange a specific vaccine, then the local trust number just said turn up to your appt and decline if you want (wasting the appointment), the GP said ring the trust number, the midwife said ring the GP and all in all nobody actually knows what is going on.

It’s just a case of turn up and decline if you want. What a pointless system.

Aozora13 · 09/05/2021 11:20

@FTEngineerM I went through the same palaver. Your GP needs to send a referral for you to NHS England. Mine did this on Wednesday and I had my first jab Saturday (yesterday). The system is a shambles and I spoke to several different people/bits of the NHS, but once I was in it, I was happy how quickly it went through.

RichmondLady1981 · 09/05/2021 12:28

@SamuelWhiskey thank you- that’s really interesting.

I would be keen to know how many of these women had the vaccine in their second or third trimester? Guessing it would be mostly third due to when the vaccine was initially rolled out? Guessing that the further along in a pregnancy you are, the safer the vaccine (for baby) as it’s more developed? I am aware that the later in the pregnancy you are, the riskier it is for mum of course.

Thinking of just becoming a recluse for the next 6 months and getting my groceries delivered to my home.

Thanks everyone for your contributions. It’s really interesting to hear everyone’s take on this.

Katy4321 · 09/05/2021 12:35

@ftengineer and @aozora13 the online booking system will change in the next few days to make it easier for to book moderna and pfizer, according to the papers yesterday.

@FTEngineerM strange - I’m in a FB group for my local area for pregnant women & new mums and all eligible have managed to get the Pfizer/Moderna through their GP.

We’re obviously very lucky here.

FTEngineerM · 09/05/2021 16:52

We don’t have an online booking system, I just had a letter through the post with appt @Katy4321 @MaverickDanger in wales, will it be changing here too? Googling doesn’t seem to help 😬
