Brown Discharge at 5 weeks 4 days pregnant

Anne1987 · 04/05/2021 18:44

So today I started to have brown discharge and some pain in my tummy. Thankfully my Dr referred me to the EPAU for a scan on Friday (will be six weeks). I am feeling quite scared and concerned it could be ectopic. Anyone had any experience of this?

My last pregnancy was a missed miscarriage, so I am really concerned about this one. Any comments welcome x

@willithappen thank you my dear, not long until your scan - I hope you are doing well.

I am still shell shocked, that despite the pain, blood, and cessation of symptoms (including my breasts going back to normal after increasing in size)- our sweetpea is still going strong (measuring now at 7 weeks 4 days, but that is what I thought I was anyway, with hcg of just over 238000). Here is the little pickle, who has had Mum (and Dad) very worried. I have been told to not worry with any further pain, blood or lack of symptoms - unless the blood clots. So I am going to try and hold strong for the 12 week scan. I hope this helps others who may come across this in the future and give some hope, as you have all been so reassuring to me and have made these last few weeks more manageable x

@Anne1987 I have just burst out crying reading that update. Thank you so much for posting and letting us know and I am so so happy for you. Can't imagine what that must have felt like!

Hoping for a similar outcome myself and your update has helped ease my worries a little. Just gotta get through tomorrow!

Anne1987 · 18/05/2021 19:03

@willithappen I shook from head to toe. I really couldn't believe my body could be in so much pain, bleed and all of my symptoms to have gone - but he/she is doing well. I was utterly convinced it was the opposite. I now have my booking in app on Thursday and will be thinking of you and send all my love and positivity. How are you feeling in yourself? xxx

@Anne1987 What wonderful news! It's incredible what the body can do. I'm so happy for you. My body seems to have finally calmed down from my bleed in week 5, although I still get a fair amount of cramping. Also holding out til 12 week scan. I have my booking in app tomorrow too!
@willithappen I hope your scan/app went well today.

Anne1987 · 19/05/2021 22:16

@Arb108 thank you :) and I am glad it has calmed down for you too. How far along are you now? I hope it all goes well for you too.

@willithappen good luck for tomorrow, we will be thinking of you. I really hope all goes well and you graduate, with the best gift x

Saw a lovely heartbeat at my scan today.
Only thing is the measurement is measuring 6+1 and I'm obviously 7 exactly today (as it's IVF so I know). She said it's not a panic/worry at all and it's just hard to get the exact sizes this early but obviously I'm away to go panic about that for the next few weeks now

One thing after another!

Anne1987 · 20/05/2021 12:48

@willithappen I am so glad you got to see a heartbeat! That is amazing news! And they got my measurements wrong when at my first scan, so try not to worry to much (week 6 is 0.5 inches or 1.27 cms and week 7 is 1.6 cm - so a couple of mm difference only, which is easy to get mixed up). I am sorry you now have that worry, but I have a feeling we will worry all the way through for one reason or another - as we all want this so much. Try and focus on how your little bean has developed enough to have a heart beat :) Hugs and congrats x

Hi all, just checking back in. 11 weeks tomorrow and very nervous for my 12 week scan next Thursday. Thankfully no further pain and bleeding, and the sickness has come back - but still really worried. How is everyone else getting on? @Arb108 @willithappen x

@anne1987 Not too bad. I've never actually stopped spotting or cramping since I bled at 5 weeks but nothing too major has happened so I'm just waiting on my 12 week scan on Monday and hoping for good news. I'm hoping once I've had it I can relax a little and perhaps I'll just be one of those people who spots throughout. I symptoms come and go so I don't like to rely on those. We just need a little camera in there so we know what's going on. Glad to hear you are still doing well though Grin

Anne1987 · 11/06/2021 11:39

@Arb108 how exciting, I will look forward to hearing good news on Monday! I know exactly what you mean, I just want the 12 week scan to happen so I can let myself believe its happening (and tell people!). You are right, many people spot throughout and cramps are also normal - once we can feel them move, we can be more aware and reassured. Until then, I am here to listen - as I know exactly the fears/feelings x

Hi @Lovely03 unfortunately no one can really help, as you know it could go either way with spotting (been through it too). All you can do is keep an eye on it for a bit. Obviously watch out for any signs of an ectopic pregnancy. An early scan for reassurance might help or might not help.

Such a stressful time, early pregnancy. Actually all of pregnancy for those who have had losses.😕

Lovely03 · 13/06/2022 08:19

Hi @Flederjo
Thank you for your reply.I understand the fear is quite normal but it doubles when you are so desperate to have a child with all those miscarriages in the past.I have been on depression for almost a year.I hope my wish is granted this time and i will be blessed with my rainbow baby.I called NHS they say its too early for the scan.

Arb108 · 13/06/2022 11:33

Hi @Lovely03. As @Flederjo says it really can go two ways. It could be the start of a miscarriage in which case unfortunately you can't do anything about it. This happened with my first pregnancy, brown discharge started later on at 10 weeks but the baby had stopped growing at 4/5 weeks. I naturally miscarried after they confirmed in on the scan around 1/2 weeks after the spotting began.
My 2nd pregnancy I started spotting and bleeding at 4/5 weeks. I automatically assumed mc after having the first one. The NHS scanned me at 6 weeks which probably is the earliest they can do - partly as I was feeling a pain as well. Luckily they detected a heartbeat and my baby went on to grow full term. I had brown discharge through the whole of my first trimester. It stopped at week 13. My LO turned 6 months on Saturday.
I have my fingers crossed for you.
