Brown Discharge at 5 weeks 4 days pregnant

Anne1987 · 04/05/2021 18:44

So today I started to have brown discharge and some pain in my tummy. Thankfully my Dr referred me to the EPAU for a scan on Friday (will be six weeks). I am feeling quite scared and concerned it could be ectopic. Anyone had any experience of this?

My last pregnancy was a missed miscarriage, so I am really concerned about this one. Any comments welcome x

Really best wishes to you.

I had bleeding early in 2 pregnancies - one resulted in miscarriage in 2018 (miscarriage happened weeks before bleeding occurred) and I bled again in my pregnancy last year, which was no problem, and I now have my 6 month old son. Pregnancy is mentally hard after miscarriage, so you have the right attitude in seeing how you feel. Maybe you’ll want the reassurance, or maybe you’ll be happy to wait until the 12 weekish scan. Nothing is wrong with either way. Best wishes.

Thank you so much @ProbablyGryffindor. It really is hard, as it takes some of the joy away. I have friends who are blissfully unaware (thankfully) of missed miscarriages/blighted ovum etc - but once you have one, your mind just prepares for the worst. But to know we have created a life, with a little heartbeat - is something I won't let the miscarriage overshadow. We have a long way to go, but already we are closer to having our baby. Thanks again for your support and I am so glad you too got your happiness after loss x

@Anne1987 I will be 7 weeks at the scan. It's an IVF pregnancy so they scan you at 7 weeks before 'graduating' you from the clinic

@willithappen wonderful, so you will be able to see everything by then. So you must be around 5 weeks, and the pains/bleeding is quite normal apparently from here on in really. I really hope the same happens for you, do let us know :) It is good to chat and there is always someone else going through the same - so its very reassuring X

@Anne1987 I'm 5+1 yeah :) fingers crossed! I had a mmc around ten years ago and struggled conceiving also so it's a huge panic. I need to just distract myself until the scan appointment. Feels like it's going to take forever!

I have everything crossed for you. It's very hard I know, but it's all out of our control. This time in two weeks you will know and I really send all the positive energy to you and that you get your new year baby x

Hi again, this is sure one hell of a roller coaster. On Sunday, two days after the scan all of my symptoms dissappeared and today I have pink discharge. The EPAU won't see me, the community midwife said try not to worry and my Dr told me to meditate! I insisted that my bloods were taken and they will do so at my Drs on Friday and Monday. I have also booked a private scan, which will be given at the EPAU - this will happen on Thursday (but the sonographer is very experienced and I had her with the missed miscarriage). I am now back to worrying as I felt so sick for a week and now I dont feel anything at all. Has anyone had this experience?

@Anne1987 I'm sorry to hear you are struggling again. Early pregnancy is such a nightmare and you just never know what to expect. I have very mild symptoms. My boobs hurt more in week 5 and now hardly feel anything. Even my cramps reduced after week 5 but they've come back now feeling slightly different. Symptoms can come and go. Perhaps the pink discharge is a continued issue with the spotting you had at the beginning - I'm no expert though. Hopefully they'll give you more information at your scan. It's so hard to relax but if you don't have major cramps or bleeding then hopefully it's all good news. Thinking of you.

I had the exact same concerns as you at 5 weeks as I had terrible cramps in my stomach! Everything ended up fine at the early scan but I want to be honest with you, I still have concerns and I think I will have concerns until my baby is here and in my arms! My next scan is in 3 weeks and usually when I have had a scan I am okay for a few days but I will probably find something else to worry about a few days later! I am really trying to get a handle of my nerves but finding it so hard. Everything panics and worries me, I just want my baby to be okay Daffodil

@Arb108 thank you for your response and reassurance. It is certainly mental torture but I know I cannot do anything about it, but it doesn't stop the fear and pain. The scan is on Weds (not Thurs) so a week tomorrow, I just need to try and keep myself busy - but its hard x

@Choosehappy I totally get that. I think I am likely to be the same and I think its because I am so fearful due to the pain of a missed miscarriage so late. How far are you now? My next scan will be when I am 7 weeks 6 days and if that goes well, I want to try and hold out. I felt fine after the last scan and for all my symptoms to go, I am a bag of nerves again. I appreciate chatting to you all, makes me realise I am not alone x

I am 9 weeks now x my next scan is on 26th May. I am sorry to hearDaffodil I completely understand why you will be feeling fearful. I couldn't conceive for 3 years, so this was a massive shock and joy for me and I guess because we found it so difficult im just so scared constantly. I just try my best to put positive energy out there, it is so difficult, but it really helps to talk to people on here and that little bit of reassurance at each scan is just a wonderful feeling. We should keep these thread open so we can update each other and spread positivity as much as possible!

@Choosehappy that is great news, not long for you to get out of this very scary 1st trimester. I would love to know how everyone gets on :) today i had some red spotting, so I really am losing hope. My MW will call me at 3pm and I hope she offers some support, 7 weeks tomorrow but my heart is heavy and I am preparing for the worse x

Your heart is heavy but also powerful! Hold onto your dreams and try and radiate positivity. It may sound daft but when we feel lost with hope, we can always try abit of mind magic Star I'll be thinking of you today, I really hope you get the reassurance you are looking for. I know like others have said, it is common to bleed a little during pregnancy here and there, some do, some don't, everyone is different. Let's see what your nurse says and take it from there, you've got this x

@choosehappy I will try my best, thank you for trying to bring some light in my darkness. I think the cessation of symptoms, pain and spotting all happening at once, has put the odds against it. BUT its not guaranteed so I will hang on to that, but not try to get my hopes up too high x

I experienced this during all of my pregnancies (at the same stage too) and my babies were unaffected. Try not to panic, it's very common. Not that knowing this helps with the worry.

I'm glad you've managed to get a scan, I was completely fobbed off by my GP when I asked for one! Fingers crossed for you.

Anne1987 · 12/05/2021 15:04

@Roomba thank you for your message. The scan is a private one at the hospital, but I am hoping after speaking to the midwife she will get me back up the EPAU as I am not feeling so great. I hope I have the same good fortune as you and if not, there isn't anything I can do about it :( I must say the GP yesterday was an idiot and told merlin to meditate! Very frustrating when they don't listen to your fears ans individual circumstances x

So after over a week of no symptoms, bleeding and pain my first hcg lot came back at 192643 for Week 7 and 1 day. I don't know what this means in terms of if my baby is OK, but does reassure me that I am not being sick despite such high levels. My appointment is now tomorrow and I am beside myself, but hopefully this is a good sign x
