Maeve
Niamh
Cara
We're not definitely going for an Irish name... but just wondered what people's thoughts were on these names?
Do you think the spelling of Niamh (pronounced Neeve) would be a bit of a pain?

Love Niamh and Cara. Met a Niamh at the weekend, she was a sweety

binkleandflip · 13/11/2007 20:16

think Niamh would be a nightmare but Neve spelt Neve is lovely.

Saorise is a lovely irish name but again, a nightmare to pronouce.

I really like Roisin but I dont know if that is irish

Ellbell · 13/11/2007 20:18

All lovely IMO and Niamh is becoming quite well known, so I don't think spelling is going to be an issue. Someone I know has just had a Cara, and it really suits her... very sweet (it means 'dear' - as in 'beloved' - in Italian).

Hi Bump

My DD1 is a Niamh so i obv love it. Do get the odd person saying all sorts of strange pronounciations but doesn't bother me tbh.

DD2 is Eilidh, you say that Aylee. Love these kinds of names

kindersurprise · 13/11/2007 20:21

Cara is lovely, a friend of mine's DD is Kara.

Niamh is also lovely. I do htink you and your DD will have to spell it loads. Saying that, our DCs both have names that we have to explain and spell, as we live in Germany. If you like the name then do not worry about it. Friends and relations get it eventually.

Love Naimh & spelt this way - I think most ppl would know how to pn it. If not, they'll soon learn.

I was just thinking today if I have a girl ever that Maeve is a lovely name!

I had a friend who was called that but spelled it Meadbh or something. Think Maeve would be easier...

bohemianbint · 13/11/2007 20:25

Sorry, missed an h - it's "Meadhbh".....

LoveAngelGabriel · 13/11/2007 20:40

Like Niamh and Maeve, not so keen on Cara. I think Irish Gaelic names are beautiful.

(Yes to wheover said it - Rosiin is an Irish name, pronounced Row-sheen or Roh-sheen depending on which part of Ireland you're from).

mamazon · 13/11/2007 20:41

love maeve. saw this recently and thought it would be lovely nowadays where all these pretty older names are all in fashion.

its traditional but still different.

i like Niamh but there are a lot about now.

cara is also a very beautifull name with a very lovely meaning

Flier · 13/11/2007 20:45

LoveAngelGabriel · 13/11/2007 20:47

Lovely names!

funnypeculiar · 13/11/2007 20:59

Cara was on our shortlist - lovely name. I love Cathra too (not sure if it's genuine Irish or made-up though

janeite · 13/11/2007 21:07

I love Niamh and Maeve; we considered both of these for dd1 and I still think fondly of them.
