My midwife didn't say anything about baby's head engagement at my 36 week appointment, but I had a growth scan the same day & she said baby's head was so low it couldn't be seen or measured. I have no idea if that means it's fully engaged 🤷‍♀️

PinkPlantCase · 17/05/2021 17:59

@AlRRRR my midwife mention it but I’ve been 4/5 engaged since 34 weeks, like you I saw on my notes. It means 1/5 of baby’s head is in your pelvis Smile

I’m 37 weeks tomorrow and so excited! I’ve finished work now too Grin

PinkPlantCase · 17/05/2021 18:01

@Mackie2020 do you have an app with your notes on? Mine has a table that’s the Antenatal Care Summary and there’s a column in there for engagement where they write down how engaged of at all baby is.

Mackie2020 · 17/05/2021 20:13

@PinkPlantCase No, I still have old school paper notes! I don't remember seeing anything about baby's engagement in them, but I'll have another look.

Hey ladies . I got a call today offering me the vaccine, was not expecting it at all. Told them I needed some time to think , I have until 12 today for them to fit me in this week as I am 36 weeks . I actually started crying when I came off the phone as I just don't know what to do, what if I take it and something happens or if I don't take it and something happens , it's such a head melt ! Has anyone else felt the same ?! I know it's a personal decision at the end of the day, it's so tough though

Nesski · 18/05/2021 10:33

Hey @TerryRose so if I got offered I would 100% take it as long as it was 1) before I reached 37 weeks and 2) it's the moderna/Pfizer. It's a very personal decision though so I'm not going to go through my reasons as to why I'd do it before baby is here xxx

swiftt · 18/05/2021 10:38

@TerryRose oh bless you, I know it must be a difficult decision. I always said early in my pregnancy that I’d wait til after baby was here. But I think if I were offered it now, I’d take it. So many pregnant ladies have been vaccinated now, and they would most definitely err on the side of caution and not offer the vaccination routinely if there were any concerns around it, I think. Especially as things are opening up and we are able to do more things, I do feel a bit vulnerable being unvaccinated and I don’t want to stay cooped up for the remainder of my pregnancy so I would take it if offered. I’ve heard such awful stories about ladies who have become so ill getting COVID in the 3rd trimester. You have to make the right decision for you, though.

123feraverto · 18/05/2021 10:42

I was offered it last week I'm nearly 38 weeks so have declined until after the birth

It's not my age category yet so I assume they only offered as I am pregnant

Sitchervice · 18/05/2021 11:26

@TerryRose I'm so sorry that this has upset you.

I'd look at what your baby would benifit most from. Would baby get more antibodies from you breast feeding or whilst they are still inside of you.

You could also talk to the community midwives as well and speak to them about your concerns.

MimiDaisy11 · 18/05/2021 11:27

I do worry about breathing issues if I were to get covid but it's only a few weeks left until the due date so I'd be so unlucky to get it now. If I were offered it I think I might just wait until after I'd given birth - though I'm not sure. I'd have to think about it more. I don't think it's likely I'll get offered it before.

AnxiousAnnie86 · 18/05/2021 11:41

I've had a text to book mine too.... but I do think I will wait until after birth now x

Fispi · 18/05/2021 11:48

@TerryRose I've had both doses of the AZ. I can understand how you feel really mixed up. I was nervous but so glad I've had it now. I was working clinically in a high risk area and DH is ECV which swayed me. There is no right or wrong answer, it's a very personal choice.

northerngal20 · 18/05/2021 11:48

It's a really personal decision. I had mine last week if it helps - baby has been absolutely fine since, kicking away happily. I found the benefits outweighed the risks for me, I'm nervous about cases rising again with lockdown easing/the new variant and being unprotected and vulnerable while I'm at my most pregnant. I also didn't want to have to worry about being symptomatic during labour. Plus the antibodies that the baby may get mean he'll (hopefully) have some protection straight away which will be nice for meeting family etc :)

DLHJune24 · 18/05/2021 11:52

@TerryRose I had a text last week and decided to have it done. I called my GP and talked it through and on balance felt like I’d rather have it than not given that the effects of getting covid in third trimester can be a lot worse (although numbers still very low). Also with things opening up and being more likely to come into contact with people I decided to go ahead. I was 34 weeks when I had it done. No side effects other than a slightly sore arm. I had the Pfizer vaccine.
Only you can say what you feel comfortable with and you certainly shouldn’t feel any pressure to have it done. I was completely ok with waiting until after birth/my age category when the text came out of the blue so like you, not something I felt very prepared for!

TerryRose · 18/05/2021 12:10

@northerngal20
@fispi

Girls thanks so much, it's the Pfizer I've been offered and I've accepted , I have an appointment tomorrow with my midwife anyways so I will talk to her . It's just there has been a big outbreak in my town and even though we are cocooning still be worried especially with the new variant and it's just been playing on my mind . Feels like the biggest decision I've ever had to make ! My gut is telling me to go ahead .

TerryRose · 18/05/2021 12:11

@MimiDaisy11 completely get you , I was feeling the same until they rang me then , like I've 4 weeks to go so it would be rotten luck like you said .

TerryRose · 18/05/2021 12:13

@swiftt that's it exactly, it's just such a big decision and one of those things where I wish someone else could decide for me but I suppose that's parenthood so better get used to it !x

Tatty1987 · 18/05/2021 12:38

I got offered the vaccine a couple of weeks ago but I have declined until after birth (I’m 34 weeks). Planning on being really careful until baby is here. I already work from home full time and partner (vaccinated) works with a small group of people. Not planning on eating out anywhere inside and I get shopping delivered. Figured I’m on the low risk side but it’s still a worry when you hear stories of women getting ill in their third trimester. It’s such a difficult decision...

Mackie2020 · 18/05/2021 16:44

I got my vaccine invite text today!

I'm 38 weeks & my instinct is to delay until baby is born. Realistically, it'll probably be a week or so before I could get it & I think I'd be more worried about feeling unwell from any potential side effects whilst in labour. Plus, we're in a low case area so I think my chances of catching Covid now before birth is pretty slim.

Im happy to have it once baby is born and I'm planning on breastfeeding so hopefully baby will get antibodies that way.

I do have my 38 week midwife appointment tomorrow so I'll talk it through with her.

sundowners · 18/05/2021 16:50

Nesski why would you only get it if under 37 weeks? For me I wanted to wait as long as possible so baby fully "cooked" / as unaffected as possible but having it 37-38 weeks means I would be far more protected against Covid in hospital.

Humpty11 · 18/05/2021 16:59

I don’t think the vaccine holds benefits until 3 weeks after it’s been given so as I’m now 37 weeks pregnant I’ll just wait until after she’s born. I’m a nurse so could have had it anytime throughout my pregnancy but initially it was a big no and now I might as well wait!

Nesski · 18/05/2021 17:21

@sundowners cos I don't want to feel like shit if the baby comes all of a sudden. I mean in reality if I do get offered it I probably would get it done anyway...

Nesski · 18/05/2021 17:35

So for selfish reasons, in case I get a strong immune response to the jab and having to labour with flu like symptoms. I have/had no actual qualms about getting it done at any point of pregnancy.

Sitchervice · 18/05/2021 17:39

I won't get my Jab until after baby is born because I think I read some where that the antibodies are better after birth than before. 🤔

DollyParton2 · 18/05/2021 18:51

I had Pfizer this week at 37 weeks. Studies have shown Vaccine-generated antibodies were also present in all umbilical cord blood so definitely passed to baby.
Using the data from the published study of the Pfizer vaccine, Public Health England determined that vaccine efficacy was 89% for 15-21 days after dose 1. So I should still have good vaccine efficacy in hospital at 39 weeks.
