Send help...

Has anyone tried promethazine?

Lying still on my side.

Sucking on ice.

Eating little and often - a digestive biscuit, a piece of toast, a crumpet.

Going to the shop and literally just walking around until I see something I feel like I can stand to eat.

Twiglets helped.

Nillynally · 12/04/2021 21:00

Cheese straws or breadsticks by my bed first thing in the morning
Small foods like babybel and grapes throughout the morning
Eating a breakfast of cornflakes, coming up stairs and heaving it all up in the sink as I brushed my teeth and then having a second bowl of cornflakes.
The trick for me was to keep eating

Sleepisoverrated150 · 12/04/2021 21:00

Picking food I fancied and eating stuff that would taste the same coming back up. First thing in the morning don’t move your head off the pillow, grab a cracker or something off your bedside table keeping your head still and try to eat it. Give yourself 5/10mins before moving.

Ice lollys are epic! I also ate junk foods, cold toast with butter was a craving 🤤

Avoid milk etc as it’s gross to be sick with!

Definitely try some different meds and don’t be pushed around if you can’t keep any food / water down get checked out for ketones.

The amazing hyperemesis group on here, haribo, buccal tablets and frequent iv of parbinex.

toucancancan · 12/04/2021 21:24

Sleeping and laying down as much as possible

georgarina · 12/04/2021 21:32

*also Rennies and vanilla ice cream!

stuckinarutatwork · 12/04/2021 21:35

Medication (may need to try a few different ones). Sea bands also helped a bit in conjunction with meds.

Lots of rest (sleep, and lying down if awake where possible).

Strong flavoured foods were strangely more palatable than bland ones.

Try really hard to prevent dehydration as this makes it worse (try ice pops, fruit purées, tiny sips of water, squash, juice, Coke, whatever).

Likewise, keep blood sugars up (boiled sweets / mints - again strong flavours helped to keep the icky taste at bay).

Remember that it isn't forever. X

Gosh to was grim. A sore belly from throwing up so much. The embarrassment of rushing out of meetings or social events. Best thing about labour was stopping vomiting. I lost about two stones in each pregnancy but HG wasn’t a thing back then and there was an absolute reluctance around antiemetics because of Thalidomide.

Slow get ups. Ginger biscuit and fresh strawberries in bed before moving. No tea until that had settled.
Avoid certain foods and smells - nothing greasy. No coffee. Ginger beer aplenty. Ice cubes made of ginger beer.
Eventually when I had to go to one of my husband’s two day interviews, I tried acupuncture. It helped enormously despite my cynicism.

Always carried spare clothes. Wet wipes, bin bag. Sick bags. Water and toothbrush. Always drove rather than being a passenger. Walked around rather than sitting squashed up on trains and planes.
Lots of warm baths with gentle scents. Plenty of sleep.

Eating little and often , mainly rice crispies and sipping cold water helped. I was given various tablets but none helped , even if I could keep them down. Keeping my hydration up as well with hydration sachets really helped as well. I'm over 9 weeks now and its finally easing thankfully but I felt like death warmed up for a few weeks and it was seriously rough going.

cluelessftm7 · 12/04/2021 21:44

Still trying to figure it out at 14 weeks (although it's never morning it's randomly throughout the day). I can't get enough of ice pops, home bargains do tango ones which are simply amazing.

mamajules32 · 12/04/2021 22:16

Thank you! Struggling here - especially with a sore tummy and headache! Sad

I’m still trying to cope with it at 16 weeks, ran to the sink today to throw up and literally nothing came out. I sometimes wish something would come out so I can get some instant relief, the all day nausea that lingers is worse. At least once you vomit you can kind of move on for a temporary while and resume your activities x

bubblebath62636 · 12/04/2021 23:51

Eating whatever i fancied.
Dh doing cooking.
Sleeping the days away.
Ice lollies, coke.

I'm now 29 weeks and thankfully it has gone. I remember laying on the bathroom floor crying it was ao bad.

Hang in there everyone!

It's my 2nd dd! With my first daughter i was fine (also a lot younger and fitter).

I was convinced i was having twins it was that bloody awful.

I'd rather give birth 5 times than go through the constant nausea again.

FemaleLady · 13/04/2021 17:00

chewing gum helped a whole lot. minty gum. also i slept a lot. mine where so bad even drinking water was a horror.

indub · 13/04/2021 18:34

Pyridoxine 25mg 3x per day (over the counter vitamin, recommended first line)
Doxylamine 25mg night (over the counter sedating antihistamine)
Ondansetron 4-8mg 3x per day as needed
Metoclopramide never did much for me
Esomeprazole 20mg daily when acid bad

Small frequent carb and salty things
Ginger lozenges

MixedUpFiles · 13/04/2021 19:09

DH drove me to work every day so I didn’t have to worry about finding a place to pull over to vomit
Lots of trips to the hospital
Any night I managed to eat a steak generally meant a better morning.

The blessed relief of delivering dd and 9 months of “morning” sickness ending.

2021mumma · 13/04/2021 19:14

Cyclizine, promethazine, no dairy, loads of carbs and a very helpful husband to deal with toddler!

Wow! 9 months of morning sickness? How did you do it?

HG was absolutely a thing when I had it in the 90s - I was hospitalised with each pregnancy. It was also a "thing" when my mother was hospitalised with it in the 60s and the consultants were trying to bully her into taking Thalidomide.

ArtemisiaGentle · 14/04/2021 11:01

Unsalted popcorn. Eat small portions frequently.

Ginger tea.

Mylittlepony374 · 14/04/2021 11:01

Eating little bits frequently. I found if I woke up in night and ate a bite of a cracker here and there, things were often better in the morning.
Generally, it was hell and you have my sympathies. It was worse with the second because nearly every time I vomited I also peed my pants..... So very hard to maintain your dignity through that.....

Lemoncheesecake20 · 14/04/2021 20:41

At its worst all I could manage was bites of a cracker through the night and before lifting my head in the morning. I also had some kids ice lollies made from fruit and veg and sucked on ice cubes. Even if I couldn’t swallow all the water from the ice cube some still made its way into my system!

When I felt slightly better I could eat monster munch and bagels with peanut butter. Also a handful of nuts. Trying to eat protein every 2 hours helped.
