Second childbirth if first baby very tiny

I've read that second birth can be quicker as ligaments/pelvic floor/tissues etc have already stretched. Is there maybe also some element of your body 'knowing' what to do?

My first baby was born still, weighing just over a pound. I had normal contractions etc, but the pushing part was relatively easy.

I'm wondering whether I'm going to have a harder time than most people the second time around - is my body going to 'know' what to do and crack on, but my ligaments and tissues won't be properly stretched like they would be if I'd had a normal sized baby?

Does anyone have experience of a second childbirth following a very small baby the first time?

I am so sorry for your loss. Not small compared to your experience, but my first was 4lb15 and my second was born in 3.5 hours from first twinge at 6lb8.

We went through this. First guy was small, so much so (IVF baby) that they told my wife she'd likely miscarry after six weeks.

He's now a little tearawatythree year old with a 17 month old little brother who was slightly bigger but also strong and healthy. Don't worry about it. My first, like yours was born still and very small. My second was 2.5 hours from waters breaking unexpectedly to being fully dilated. Didn't even know I was in labour or feel contractions for the first hour. All birth planning went right out the window.
I just don't think it's something you can predict, so try not to worry about it.

Thanks folks. I guess I'm worried about tearing badly because I won't be stretchy enough for the potential speed of a second birth.
I know there's nothing I can do about it though!
