How on earth do some mothers stay so slim and neat throughout pregnancy and after birth??
I'm 5ft 3 and weigh 11 and a half stone.
This is my typical weight and I'm 6 weeks pregnant with my 3rd child.
All I seem to see is new mums with slim faces and glammed up after birth😬 is it just me??
Also has anyone used the company Patpat to order baby clothes and did you find them good or not?

I think some people are just naturally like this, some may continue a strict diet regime whilst pregnant. I gained a lot of weight and water and looked like a different person by the end of my pregnancies (particularly the last one-my facial features actually looked different Confused)

Pootles34 · 06/04/2021 14:02

I can highly recommend hyperemesis for that slim new mother look! I weighed less at full term than at the start. Can confirm back to full fat status now however... I was never glam though - somewhat unsuprisingly.

Katierose34 · 06/04/2021 14:02

I already think my face looks puffy😁
Some people seem to effortlessly look so glamorous!
Well so long as everyone has healthy babies that's what matters most.

I think it for a variety of reasons. I always finish my pregnancy a couple of stone lighter than when I started. It's not because I've restricted my diet or had bad morning sickness though. I think I try and eat healthier when pregnant and my hormones balance out.

Bibidy · 06/04/2021 14:09

I have 2 friends who have recently had babies and they both stayed slim throughout and are back in their old clothes now after less than 2 months.

I think a lot of the time people who are slim before pregnancy end up staying that way because they generally have a healthy diet without trying so don't see pregnancy as an excuse to eat whatever - as I know I would Grin.

I guess a lot of us struggle with our weight at the best of times so pregnancy can just add an extra challenge into the mix.

SweatyPie · 06/04/2021 14:12

I wasn't glammed up but I'm one who stays skinny. Stomach went back to normal about an hour after birth, squishy but still flat

I was skinny (and tall) before but appetite changes made me lose weight. So genetics and age in terms of weight.

Sexnotgender · 06/04/2021 14:12

I’m 39 weeks and have gained 1.5 stone so expect to be pretty much back to my starting weight within a few weeks of birth (hopefully!) was back in regular clothes quickly after my son was born.

Camandmitch · 06/04/2021 14:12

I suffered quite badly with morning sickness and general food aversions during my pregnancies. I was over a stone lighter than my pre-pregnancy weight within a day of giving birth. If it's any consolation for you, two years after my last birth I'm now a stone heavier than before I fell pregnant.

ivfbeenbusy · 06/04/2021 14:14

I had twins! Best diet I've very been on - exclusively breastfeeding and was back to pre pregnancy weight within 2 weeks although everything is a bit more wobbly than it was before! 🤣

Catlady21 · 06/04/2021 14:15

Having GD is also a factor. I've weighed less at the end of each pregnancy due to this.

AnneLovesGilbert · 06/04/2021 14:16

A combination of luck, genes, differing pregnancy symptoms. I never had nausea or sickness but did have crippling heartburn. Ate pretty much what I wanted but didn’t crave anything very sweet or fatty, put on just under 2 stone and it was gone within a couple of months. Breastfeeding helped but I didn’t have much to lose once the baby was out. You can’t do anything about face bloat, it’s just one of those things.

Can’t say I was ever particularly glam though I bought a handful of comfortable flattering maternity dresses off eBay which I wore to death and made me feel good.

If you’re suffering with sickness then getting through the day in one piece is a victory and no one looks glam from puking, it must be horrific.

I could have written this myself!!
I'm 5foot 2 and weigh the same as you and am 11weeks with my 3rd!!
I'm 34 now so feel as though I'll gain 5stone and never lose it again!!

Never ordered from Patpat but am curious!

Worriesome · 06/04/2021 14:22

Sorry never used that company. In regards to some woman, maybe just good genes? I bloat in pregnancy and I wish I was able to have a nice chiselled face throughout it but that’s just not me x

Katierose34 · 06/04/2021 14:28

I'm 35 and will have a 10year age gap between this baby and my current youngest😬😱🙈

I will have 9 years, we must be crazy 🤣🤣

Jemenfouscompletement · 06/04/2021 18:46

Not overeating, staying active. Definitely no eating for 2, just eating normally and doing sport and at least a lot of walking up to the birth. I lost all my weight at the birth of both mine or just after.

AnneLovesGilbert · 06/04/2021 19:00

What you’re meant to gain under the guidelines is dependent on your pre-pregnancy weight as well. A friend put on 5 stone but she was 8 stone at 5’7 beforehand. It was a lot but she lost it incredibly fast after giving birth.

Teamox · 06/04/2021 19:02

1st pregnancy - after the first 16 weeks of sickness and only eating beige food, my only craving was fruit, had a very active job up to 39 weeks and made conscious decisions with food choices because I didn't want to put on weight, then I think breast feeding plus no time to eat helped me lose any weight very quickly.

This pregnancy, I'm not working, not active at all (mixture of lockdown and SPD), and am eating all day long and lots of unhealthy food - so I've put on lots of weight. I'm hoping that breast feeding will help again but know that I am going to have to make a serious effort to loose the weight. I could do something about it now (35 weeks) but I just want to eat!

Strokethefurrywall · 06/04/2021 19:27

Genetics, not eating for 2, exercising.

Amichelle84 · 06/04/2021 19:34

Sickness.

OverTheRubicon · 06/04/2021 19:40

So much depends on the pregnancy too. I've had 3 pregnancies go to term, and two of those I was pretty healthy, mild morning sickness, able to exercise and was generally glowing. One I had really bad sickness that only stopped when I ate, then I got a complication that meant I was on bed rest and bored, with kind people visiting for tea and cake and meals and piled on even more. I gained stupid amounts of weight, was barely recognisable by the end.

So anyway, don't judge yourself or them, it's very individual.

Lou98 · 06/04/2021 19:48

I'm not thin (and wasn't pre pregnancy either) but I'm 33 weeks and am a few pounds lighter than I was pre pregnancy. I was vomiting 10+ times a day from 5/6 weeks to about 20 weeks and lost nearly 2 stone in weight. Even after 20 weeks, and still now, my nausea is so bad that I can only eat small amounts and not very often.

I'm definitely not glamorous at all though I wouldn't say, the only "glow" I have is sweat from vomiting so much🙈😂

Superscientist · 06/04/2021 19:58

Sickness in my first and third trimesters, heartburn in the second (then on to omperazole!)
A mother who is obsessed by your weight
Then a baby that sleeps best when you are walking so I do 3-5 miles a day.
Said babies reacts to dairy, soya, eggs, coconut, tomatoes, beef, fish and red peppers so all good stuff is removed from your diet.
Severe pnd, getting out of bed was a struggle nevermind finding food to eat.
A mother that is obsessed by your weight (its worth including twice). I hate that I have been brought up to measure my worth by the number on the scales. It is not something I want to project on to my child.
Before pregnancy my bmi was about 22 it's now 18. I finished my pregnancy a stone heavier than prepregnancy within 10 days I was back at my prepregnancy weight my mum had already asked me if I had "lost my baby weight" twice at this point! I wish I had gained more so I had a cushion to get through the first few months of having a newborn.

RizzleRazzle · 06/04/2021 20:01

PatPat is okay, takes a while to arrive and you get what you pay for in terms of quality.

Can't comment on staying slim, I'm 4 weeks away from having DD and I've gained a fair amount of weight 😒

cheesebubble · 06/04/2021 20:02

I've always been slim/skinny, this is my second child, I'm 35 weeks pregnant and weigh 9.1st.
I do not have any water retention so my rings still fit normal and my feet are the size they were before. My grandmother has always been slim, my mother is slim and so am I. I lost my baby weight within 2-3 weeks of my son being born.

One thing, your weight should not define your self worth, you're so much more than your weight. Comparison is the thief of joy & being slim doesn't mean you're happy & I mean it x
