Hiya, just wondering how long people had to stay in hospital after a planned C section, totally understand that it's different for everyone's circumstances but just looking for some real life experiences - thanks xx

I stayed in one night, it was about 36 hours in total.

Useruseruserusee · 20/03/2021 16:19

I was discharged 24 hours after the surgery.

WhoAreYah · 20/03/2021 16:19

One night.

ShipshapeShore · 20/03/2021 16:21

Two nights but I was under a consultant. Could probably have come home the next day, I managed to get out of bed and move around.

Moominmiss · 20/03/2021 16:23

1 night with both my planned c sections. From being admitted to discharged was only a little over 24 hours. Would have been earlier but most of it was waiting around for a doctor to sign my discharge papers.

My emergency section I was in 5 nights but that was purely down to my baby being in icu for the first few days.

Sceptre86 · 20/03/2021 16:26

Unplanned section with first baby 3 nights, second section 2 nights, could have been discharged after 1 as baby was bottle fed.

DorotheaHomeAlone · 20/03/2021 16:26

One night each for 2 elcs and same for emcs.

DorotheaHomeAlone · 20/03/2021 16:27

could have been discharged after 1 as baby was bottle fed

Confused by the relevance of this? All of mine were bf and we were allowed home next day.

Mylittlesandwich · 20/03/2021 16:29

2 nights but that was because I was trying to establish breastfeeding rather than because of my section.

2021expecting · 20/03/2021 17:04

Mine was a planned c section and the doctors asked me 24hrs after op if I wanted to go home, I chose to stay another night as it was easier to recover for another night using the hospital setting, electric bed and extra pain relief.

FF821 · 20/03/2021 17:26

Thanks very much ladies, seems the 4 days I've read on the NHS website isn't the case for most of you xx

2 x ELSC (well one was classed as an emergency but it wasn’t, it was just earlier than planned as my waters had broke).

2 nights / 3 days both times. Both babies born before 12noon. 2 different NHS trusts.

Chelyanne · 20/03/2021 17:39

I got to hospital at 7am, babies were delivered at 10:30&31, was kept in recovery until 7pmish due to heavy blood loss. Was able to get up and walk when hubby went home around 10pm. Catheter out the next morning, went to get lunch and a shower after hubby rocked up late morning (he'd had a cast off his leg in the morning). A lot of nagging and I was discharged before 7pm, iron levels were low but not so low they could force me to stay. So I only spent 1 night at hospital, I hate being in hospital as I can't sleep (I did have a private room). I was much happier being at home, our girls were born at 38wk so passed all their checks.

Chelyanne · 20/03/2021 17:41

I didn't need any painkillers after my surgery, I know I'm in the minority on that.

tigerbread20 · 20/03/2021 17:45

DC1 - 1 night
DC2 - 9 nights

Monkeytapper · 20/03/2021 17:47

I had my daughter at 10am on the Tuesday, home the next day about same time

thismeansnothing · 20/03/2021 17:49

2 nights (due to feeding problems) and they wanted me to stop a third but I said I'd be better at home. They were originally all ready to boot memoir next day just shy of 24hours after surgery as I had DD at just gone 5PM

Misspacorabanne · 20/03/2021 17:51

One night... But this was during covid, i think the standard is 2 nights, but I might be wrong?

user1498572889 · 20/03/2021 17:53

My daughter was in for 24hrs

BigRedBoat · 20/03/2021 17:55

One night, had her about 11.30am and was home about 6pm the following day.

dillydallydollydaydream7 · 20/03/2021 17:58

Consultant led both times and in one night for both.

First time - in for 6am and discharged at 1:30pm the following day

Second time - in for 6am and discharged at 3pm the following day

user1493413286 · 20/03/2021 17:59

I had DS at 3.15pm on a Thursday and came how at 11am on Saturday, so it was 2 nights but if I’d had DS earlier in the day I would have been ready to come home after one night. I found recovery easier at home.

2021mumma · 20/03/2021 18:01

3 nights, needed all the painkillers I could get

Suzysuz · 20/03/2021 18:06

This was 3yrs ago - 2 nights but they would have discharged me after 1 night 😳
They had some sort of rapid recovery programme or called something like that, so as long as I'd peed okay after catheter removed, been toilet, and baby had done their meconium poo and checked out okay then they wanted the bed really!

WolfHunter · 20/03/2021 18:07

In and out in 25 hours. Was a really positive experience.
