I understand times are difficult but I've had my letter for my first scan (first baby). It states that scan photos are £10 each!! Never have I ever heard anyone has paid so much for their scan photo. Do you think this is an unreasonable amount? Or am I expecting too much from the NHS?

Had a letter and it says images are £3 each but there is a small note attached with the title 'regarding the current covid-19 outbreak' and it says that you will not have to pay for souvenir images

We were given our 20 weeks for free, they were training a new sonographer and the pictures were absolutely shocking 🙈🙈🙈
£10 is a lot. At my 12 week we paid 5

This must be a thing in England. I often see things talking about how to get free eye tests and free prescriptions and wonder what they're talking about- this stuff is already free, that's the point of the NHS. Then I remember it applies to England.

In our hospital they’re £3 but they aren’t charging at the moment and they’re printing out quite a few different ones too.

Not just England. My first pregnancy was South Wales and we paid for scan photos. I'm not sure why you'd think providing scan photos would be a free NHS service normally anywhere.

I've never had to pay for scan photos! I didn't even know hospital trusts charge. We are in Scotland tho...

@bumbledeedum

You're not sure why I'd think they'd be free? Because they are free in Scotland. Along with eye tests, prescriptions, and most other NHS services.

It wouldn't occur to me to charge for something like that when so much else is poverty-proofed. At the booking-in appointment mothers-to-be are given free vitamins to see them through their pregnancy, as well as baby toothpaste and a form to fill in to receive a baby box (not means tested- this is for everyone).

So yeh, given all that, I'd be surprised to pay for a piece of paper with a photo showing my baby is healthy.

Mine have been 3 for £10 London

MM1993 · 19/03/2021 22:28

My 12 week scan I wasn't even offered any physical pictures. Just told to take a picture of the screen with my phone - so disappointed!

PurpleFlower1983 · 20/03/2021 06:26

Wow that’s loads! They’re free at our trust at the moment. I got 6 at my first scan!

Waitingforbabypage · 29/04/2021 22:05

Ours were free at the 12 week scan, she gave us 6 pictures.
We paid £8 for our 20 weeks scan pics and we're only meant to get 4 but she gave us 6 again.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 29/04/2021 22:18

OP was that £10 for one photo or 3?

Unless it’s one photo, I think I’m winning (losing?) because in our trust it’s £12 for 3 photos or £6.50 for one. I’ve been told they won’t give out change either so it needs to be the correct amount. It’s also going to cost us at least £3.20 in parking!
