Inconclusive Harmony Test

Has this happened to anyone else & then they got a good result? I'm so upset with the whole thing. I did the test for peace of mind and now I think all it has done is cause me more stress. By the time the results come at this stage I'll be so far along that I will be continuing as normal anyways. I wouldn't bother with the test if doing things over again. Have read that inconclusive can mean T13 or T18. Please tell me happy stories, beyond stressed

Was there insufficient fetal DNA? Was all otherwise ok at scan? Which GA dates was the blood draw? Is your BMI within range?

I had NIPT in this pregnancy, at exactly the GA from when you can take it. Low BMI. Came back as insufficient fetal DNA. Redraw and rescan, 5 days later was called to say low chance across the board. 34 weeks and all perfect now.

It very often means they just did the blood draw too early. Fingers crossed for you. They tend to prioritise redraws too so you won't have to wait too long!

Newmum110 · 05/03/2021 09:00

@Livingmagicallyagain they didn't make any comment at the scan just that all looked good, I didn't realise that they might say something at the scan.
Insufficient DNA at 11+1, I do have a high BMI so maybe that is the issue.
Thanks for your response, just need to hear so positivity before I completely worry myself after all my googling last night

11+1 is so early! Don’t worry about it. I had my second blood draw around 14 weeks and it worked

Newmum110 · 05/03/2021 09:45

@Lemoncheesecake20 thanks, I'll stop being so miserable now!!!!

Insufficient DNA at 11w is very common and doesn’t say anything about the results. The place I went wouldn’t do it before 12w any more because so many came back.

Lemoncheesecake20 · 05/03/2021 10:40

@Newmum110 I was exactly the same, scared myself to death googling but it was a simple case of the first draw being done too soon and a high bmi x

Newmum110 · 05/03/2021 13:53

Thanks everyone, so glad I posted, ye have put my mind at ease. Think we don't stop worrying about our babies from the day of conception til the day we die......

I had two redraws and both didn’t have enough DNA. Luckily by then I had got the NHS results back and all was fine, so I didn’t bother going back and got a refund instead. Apparently it just doesn’t work for some people. Like you, I did panic, especially the second time, then all was very low risk with the NHS test, so felt relieved!

Newmum110 · 08/03/2021 09:47

Just had my redraw done at 12+4 so fingers crossed. Doctor told me that potentially there is something wrong & the problem with getting testing done is sometimes the results aren't what we want to hear. What a great comfort!!!!! Another week of waiting :-(

I had a BMI and it didn't work first time but I did get a result eventually. Just keep with it.

alwaysraining123 · 08/03/2021 09:58

*high BMI!

Newmum110 · 08/03/2021 10:09

Thanks, I was trying to be optimistic but the doctor this morning certainly didn't help!!!!

It happened to me - insufficient fetal DNA (under 4%) at 10+1. I have a higher BMI too. It was repeated 2 weeks later and I came back at very low risk. The repeat tests are prioritised so the second wait was shorter. I was worried sick in between, but after posting on a different pregnancy group, I found it happens quite frequently.

Newmum110 · 08/03/2021 10:54

@thebakeoffwasntasgoodthisyear so glad it all worked out for you. The responses I got here made me feel so much better but was upset by doctors attitude this morning. Thanks again, looking forward to the stress ending

I just had my third redraw on Friday :-( I called the lab after the second inconclusive test and they said it wasn't indicative of anything being wrong, just that there wasn't enough fetal DNA yet. I was also an IVF patient on Clexane (blood thinner) which they said could also have an effect. I was taken off it a week before the third blood draw so hoping it's made a difference.

Newmum110 · 08/03/2021 12:18

@Ladylavender thanks for the information. I don't think I could go for a 3rd attempt, the stress of this is worse than anything. I didn't mind spending the money as I thought it would provide reassurance, now I wish I hadn't bothered. Fingers crossed for us both x

I’m having my nipt done this week and I’m dreading it for this reason (as well as potentially getting a high risk result obviously).

I have a slightly high bmi so it does concern me.

I will be either 11+3 by lmp or 12+3 going by a scan I had at the weekend.

Newmum110 · 08/03/2021 12:45

@Moominmiss I am sure you will have a more informed practitioner than I do which will make all the difference. It should be the doctor reassuring me not the good people here!!!!!
I dont think I would go down this route again but maybe if I get good results next week I'll be saying it's all worth it.....

Would anyone be willing to share what their BMI is (roughly) if they think it caused issues?

Trying to decide on Harmony timings at the moment and hadn't realised this could be an issue!

The attraction with Harmony was that it could be sooner than the 12 week NHS scan - but seems like this might not be the case?!

okokok000 · 08/03/2021 13:03

I had two inconclusives. Third came back normal. Unfortunately I went into labour at 5 months. The post mortem showed she had triple x syndrome.

The inconclusive might be indicative of something, equally there may simply be insufficient dna. Good luck.

okokok000 · 08/03/2021 13:07

Obviously neither the nhs 12 week scan or harmony cover everything, that is why more invasive tests still exist. I'd do the harmony again as I think it's more reliable than the 12 week nhs scan / Assessment particularly if you're older.

Newmum110 · 08/03/2021 13:47

@IWouldBeSuperb mine would be up near 40 Blush

OP posts:
Moominmiss · 08/03/2021 16:30

@IWouldBeSuperb My bmi is 31-32, I haven’t had my nipt yet but will find out soon enough if it’s high enough to cause issue.

IWouldBeSuperb · 08/03/2021 19:18

Thanks @Newmum110 - I really hope you get your all clear through soon!

Thanks @Moominmiss - keep us posted? Maybe I'll hold off till wk 11/12 to increase the chances of a decent first time draw...

Newmum110 · 15/03/2021 13:49

Finally got my results back, all low risk, I am beyond happy.
They couldn't tell me the sex but honestly that's the least of my worries.
Hope the rest of you have good results Flowers
