Baby Bjorn bouncer

Hi all!

I’ve seen such rave reviews about the Baby Bjorn bouncer. I’m struggling to see how it warrants the extra cost from a normal bouncer ?

Can anyone who has one let me know your thoughts ?

This thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’re looking for bouncers, we’ve recently updated our best baby bouncer page with lots of great options tried and tested by MNHQ and real parents, including info on the BabyBjorn bouncer, plus budget-friendly alternatives. We hope you find it useful.

I have two BB bouncers, for my one-year old twins.
They are amazing! The babies have their bottles in it, and always have their short morning nap in it.
When they were smaller, it was excellent for getting them to sleep. Also a good place to put them if you need to leave the room for a few minutes (until they learn to wriggle out of it).
Now when they see me bring bottles, they climb into the bouncers themselves!
I haven't tried any other bouncer, so can't compare, but I was very happy with it.

That is way too cute 😍💕

They are brilliant. Don’t buy new - they are always available second-hand. Babies aren’t interested in garish stuff until later, when they’ve outgrown bouncers.

tanqueray10 · 04/03/2021 21:07

Yup we had one and both my boys loved it. So simple but so effective.

I got a really great condition one from Facebook market place for £40 and just ordered a new toy bar from Amazon.

ExpectingToFly · 04/03/2021 22:35

Absolute genius. Best bouncers ever. Best thing we bought apart from a blackout blind that sticks onto the window and a little white noise machine

WalkingMeAway · 04/03/2021 23:18

I’m sold 🤣. Thanks all.

It just works its magic. I have one still going strong after 20 years. Worked its magic on many a baby as it's been handed round nieces and nephews. The cover is easy to slip off and wash. My boys used it well up to 2 years old to watch a bit of telly.

Mc3209 · 05/03/2021 09:23

Oh, yes! Also known as 'Pooping Chair' in our house 😂 Must be something about the position.
And yes, DS absolutely loves his.

starsinyourpies · 05/03/2021 09:26

Ours is going strong on DC3 and will be one of the few things I hold on to for visiting babies!

Luckystar1 · 05/03/2021 09:28

Sorry, I’m also going to rave about it!

DC3 is currently asleep in it. We’ve have this one for almost 7 years, it still looks brand new.

I don’t know if it’s because I look after expensive stuff better, but the things that I paid most for with DC1 are still going strong now for DC3. And will be kept for any babies who come to stay/visit.

GLTM · 05/03/2021 09:33

Aldi did have a rip off one. I don't know if they will stock them again.

sundowners · 05/03/2021 09:42

I just can't face paying £165 for this bouncer for DC3. We had the more standard Fisher Price etc and they worked perfectly fine for a fraction of that cost. I've looked up second hand Bjorns and they are around £65- I really don't like the idea of my new-born having something that in all likelihood another baby has spent a lot of time in and pooed /thrown up in- especially at that cost! There's already a risk with SIDS and secondhand mattresses so just wouldn't want to take my chance on this.

Scubalubs87 · 05/03/2021 09:51

I've used one with two babies and I still can't put my finger on why they are superior but they just are. It genuinely is the best bouncer and it was worth every single penny I spent on it.

hopetoun · 05/03/2021 09:53

Overall I think it’s the best we’ve had. Washes easily. Compact gold. I bought expecting miracles for naps with DC1. However, hasn’t lived up to expectations, though my first two weren’t great sleepers as babies. DC3 7wo sometimes briefly naps in it, though she tends to wake after 5 minutes. She has reflux so isn’t happy lying on playmat just just, she does enjoy sitting in the bouncer though. I’d try to pick one up second hand if you can, agree expensive for what it is!

hopetoun · 05/03/2021 09:54

*compact fold (not gold

swiftt · 05/03/2021 09:55

@sundowners the cover is completely washable so that’s not an issue with a second hand one at all.

OP, I bought one 2nd hand after hearing such good things. My baby isn’t due until June so hopefully she likes it, but if not then I can resell it and won’t have lost out. They’re so expensive brand new!

WalkingMeAway · 05/03/2021 10:36

As it’s our third we don’t really have a lot of big things to buy - have the nursery furniture, travel system etc so I could treat the baby to this as he’s not having much else new apart from clothes !

It’s just working out how is worth the money. It’s a frame with some material! They must be making a mint!

You can get them cheaper off eBay. I wouldn’t buy one first hand.
I love them too, both my babies were so comfortable in them. They liked to watch the world go by or take a little nap. I remember the first time we put my newborn son in it - he was being fussy but as soon as we put him in his eyes glazed over and he fell asleep

PuntoEBasta · 05/03/2021 13:19

Totally fair enough if you prefer to buy new products for your baby but applying the SIDS advice for mattresses to bouncers makes no sense.

Mattresses are thick. They aren't washable. They are often stored in damp locations like lofts and garages and second-hand ones can harbour a lot of mould spores and bacteria that you would never know about. Your baby potentially spends long periods of time on them - 12 hours overnight if you have a good sleeper unlike mine plus naps, so a significant amount of time in a 24 hour period, and they aren't always supervised as hopefully the parents are also asleep for part of that. This isn't at all comparable to a simple bouncer which can be fully washed.

Again, it is absolutely your choice if second-hand is not for you but SIDS advice is not a reason.

positivebex · 05/03/2021 13:24

We loved our baby Bjorn and can’t wait to use again with number 2, though I couldn’t justify the price. We got ours second hand from eBay and washed the covers and it’s been fab. Paid a fraction of the price.

sundowners · 05/03/2021 13:39

Really don't agree PuntoEBasta from the sounds of things on here a lot of babies spend seriously prolonged periods of time in/sleeping in the Bjons, so that's definitely prolonged periods. If its a choice between a brand new bouncer at £40 V spending £65 on a second hand 1 I know which I'll be doing.

Onedropbeat · 05/03/2021 13:42

A bouncer is naps only. As people say, the covers are fully removable and washable.
It’s like using second hand clothes. They are ok to sleep in clean preowned clothes surly?!

mammmamia · 05/03/2021 13:45

Definitely not prolonged sleeping times. Short day time naps only, by the time mine were having a longer nap after lunch that was strictly in the cot or sometimes in pram, they’d have been too big for the BB by then.
The covers are lightweight and completely washable.

PuntoEBasta · 05/03/2021 13:47

Leaving a baby in a bouncer for 12 hours would be simple neglect.

By your logic, second-hand clothes would be verboten, too. Babies spend a lot of time in them and they get covered in a lot of poo and vomit.

It's OK simply not to like the idea of second-hand. You do you!
