Not a nice topic but I’m worried just looking to see if anyone has had a similar experience, I’m 26 weeks pregnant and I have a large external thrombosed hemorrhoid. The doctor has prescribed scheriproct ointment and I have been bathing 3 plus more times a day and using ice. I’ve had it for 8 days and it’s not got any better I can hardly walk!! Has anyone had one of these and it’s eventually went away on its own? Or did you need to get it removed? I don’t know how much longer I can take it :(

@Emz012019
Hate to say it, but I doubt it will go until after your pregnancy. But once you've given birth, it's quite common for it to go on its own accord, however bad it might appear now.
Just keep doing what you're doing. Worst symptom of pregnancy!! X

Tea tree oil on a cotton pad that’s been dampened with water. Do that several times a day. You have my sympathies, they are not pleasant!

Princessbanana · 06/02/2021 00:29

You poor poor girl!😐 I had these for the first time ever with my last baby! I honestly thought I was going to die!! The pain was soo bad! I think as far as I remember I got suppositories and some kind of cream and I also took something to soften my stool as to not aggravate it anymore than necessary. It did take a few weeks but it did go down bit by bit. I’m not sure exactly what causes it. I was afraid when I gave birth that all the pushing would make it come back but it didn’t, thankfully! I also used waterwipes after a bowel movement, normal baby wipes stung for some reason. I hope it goes down soon.💕

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 06/02/2021 00:49

I know that pain
My greatest sympathies.

My top recommendation is to get a cream with local anaesthetic in eg lignocaine because it at least numbs it. I think germoloids have one. I found that a lot better than the other ones like anusol that just have steroid and softening things. You need some hard core cream for an issue like this. I sadly am an expert. I have a drawer full of creams and suppositories.

Never had a problem til my pregnancies but sorry to say nothing was ever the same after that and apparently 10 years on I need an operation on them when they start up minor surgery again.

My kids are lovely so I guess it was just about worth it.

I have a hollow laugh when there's those occasional threads about people wanting to bleach their bum holes to make them look pretty. It's a bizarre concept to me at the best of times but I am very glad that it's only my colorectal surgeon who is going to be looking at mine.

Sam042017 · 06/02/2021 01:09

I really sympathise I also have them and am now 49 weeks pregnant so have resigned to the fact they will be with me through labour and my whole bum hole may turn inside out 😭. I've tried creams and suppositories but think it's just pressure of baby dropping. Keep at it with creams, warm baths seem to ease mine and I found germaloids the best at easing the pain. I've heard they hopefully go after birth and we shouldn't notice them during labour as will be too preoccupied x

40 weeks not 49 🤦‍♀️🤣
Inkpaperstars · 06/02/2021 01:29

I was going to ask @Sam042017!

Emz012019 · 06/02/2021 04:37

@cat709 oh god no I can’t cope with it for another 14 weeks! It’s waking me up constantly at night 3am baths to soothe it !

It is honestly worse than my second degree tear with my son 🙈 I never had them with him! And I’m not even constipated it’s just came from nowhere. I will defos try some of the other suggestions. I have been in tears over it Blush. Absolutely dreading that I might need to give birth with it 😩 and chasing a 2 year old about all day like this is a killer!

You have my sympathy they are awful aren't they! I've not found anything that works either but do take paracetamol for the pain, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Also eating apricots every day now which helps a lot.

chestnutSquash · 06/02/2021 05:50

Those blue gel ice packs stay really cold for hours. The smallest size, placed in a sturdy plastic bag then wrapped in a soft cloth is very soothing.
You can throw away the plastic bag and wash the ice pack in order to refreeze it.

mathanxiety · 06/02/2021 06:13

I had one after the birth of DS.

For the love of puppies, @Emz012019 - Go back to your doctor and insist he or she lances it. No more faffing around with creams, etc. Tell the doctor you are not taking no for an answer.

I was in agony three days postpartum - whimpering with pain - but 20 minutes after lying nervously on my side in the doctor's examining room the relief was indescribable. It hurt to get the area numbed beforehand but I could have danced a hornpipe back to the car even with the wodge of gauze stuck between my butt cheeks..

mathanxiety · 06/02/2021 06:14
  • and I had delivered DS, who weighed in at over 9 lbs without anesthesia, no air/gas, etc, so I know what pain is.
Chanel05 · 06/02/2021 06:31

Sorry to hear this! I had one appear like this the day before I went into labour. The doctor told me that the only cure was childbirth Sad

spottygymbag · 06/02/2021 06:48

Lignocaine or similar. This was the only way I got through my second pregnancy. I was walking lots and after about 20mins on my feet the pain was blinding.
It has cleared up post birth though!

Emz012019 · 06/02/2021 08:13

@mathanxiety I think this might be my only option it’s so big and not going anywhere. When the doctor looked even he was like oh that’s a big one 😩! I’m going to call again Monday morning I can’t live like this it’s horrific!

Emz012019 · 06/02/2021 08:13

@Chanel05 did it go away after birth? I feel like this is here to stay!

OP posts:
Chanel05 · 06/02/2021 09:01

@Emz012019 mine did, yes.

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 06/02/2021 09:25

Mathanxiety I'm surprised the GP did that. I would have thought most would feel it a specialist job but if it's still just as bad with the cream etc then you could ask them to urgently refer you or even go to A&E.

Sam042017 · 06/02/2021 10:10

@Emz012019 how long have you been using the treatment for? 🤞🤦‍♀️

Emz012019 · 06/02/2021 10:21

@Sam042017 this is my 4th day before that I went through a stack of anusol that didn’t even touch it 🙈 9 days of horrific pain 🙈

Sam042017 · 06/02/2021 10:30

I started with prep h ointment and anusol suppositories on Monday and just kept feeling they weren't touching the pain. I bought some germoloids yesterday which really soothes and they feel a little more improved this morning although still there. If you've got the spritz for bits that's got witch Hazel in so I've been spraying some of that into a pad and putting that on the area which helps. Also bought some lavender Epsom salts and using them in the bath to soothe. I keep trying to push them back in slightly but they don't stay and it's agony to do so x

SenoraSurf · 06/02/2021 10:35

I've been there!

I continually had bad ones ranging from 1cm to 5cm yep, ouch. I dreaded going to the bathroom and ended up taking a couple of weeks off work on two occasions because I couldn't walk.

The doc prescribed me scheriproct, then proctosedyl or something like that spelling, basically the same as scheriproct but a different version. Anusol and suppositories did nothing for me. I also was prescribed a laxative and was given a box of anaesthetic gels in syringes.

The pain was horrid and I would regularly stick a handful of frozen peas wedged into some cling film and would stick it straight on the bugger. They'd melt and I could mould them into the shape of the Pile and then I would repeat over and over. I also tried witch hazel soaked cotton pads in the freezer which gave mild relief but reappeared when thawed. The doc gave me codeine but warned me it could make me constipated so I was nervous to take it.

When it came to birth, the midwife basically held my piles to give them support (I didn't feel additional pain during birth) and then literally the day after they completely disappeared and I haven't had piles since! I do have some slight excess skin by my butt hole now though so it's not quite as neat down there and my toilet habits now include wet wipes to make sure I'm properly clean.

I really, really feel for you OP. In my experience, the pain from the piles was was worse than labour and completely debilitating. I was embarrassed to tell my family, work and friends why I couldn't walk so told them I had a sore hip and the doc thought it was spd! Luckily my sick note from the doc just said pregnancy related and didn't have gory details x

SenoraSurf · 06/02/2021 10:38

Just to add, I begged my doctor to remove it (it was too big to remove at the doctors surgery) but when he spoke to the hospital, they flat out refused because I was pregnant. They wouldn't even entertain the idea of having it removed whilst pregnant.

Sam042017 · 06/02/2021 10:39

@SenoraSurf This gives me hope... 40 weeks today and the thought of going into labour with piles is riddling me with anxiety. I'll have to just let midwife know and see if they can be help in place as I'm terrified of my bum turning inside out

PregnantGotCovid · 06/02/2021 10:56

@Emz012019 I started an almost identical thread a week ago. I'm 30 weeks pregnant and last week developed 2. I'm assuming they're thrombosed, but haven't been examined. I've never known pain like it. I was crying and completely unable to do anything. I also had no constipation.

This is what I did:
I have a flexible ice pack. I spent hours sitting on it, or a bag of ice cubes. Make sure it's wrapped up so you don't get ice burns. This will reduce the pain and reduce the size. I wrapped it in a plastic bag and a cloth.

I bought germaloids at the pharmacy. It has lidocaine in it, which is an anesthetic. Or you can buy vagasil, which has stronger lidocaine.

I had taken paracetamol, which did nothing. I called the out of hours gp, who said I can buy over the counter cocodamol (be aware this contains paracetamol too, so don't take that and paracetamol). You might be able to take aspirin at your stage in pregnancy.
But speak to a doctor before taking cocodamol or aspirin.

Take a movicol sachet a day to keep your bowel movements soft, especially if you start taking cocodamol.

A few days after doing all this, they feel much better. I'm not needing pain killers.

Also buy a haemorrhoids cushion for more comfortable sitting.

The gp said they won't refer me for any further treatment for at least a month, as they may shrink down enough in that time.
